Heya Julie and Meredith. My ears are enjoying themselves.

A smoky day (again) in NorCal. Smoke is choking us out. But at least Fanny (from right here in Sacramento) is on!

Meredith will be joining us about 1, but all these people are in her book!

Don't remember Meredith, but I sure remember you, and I'm so excited that you're back on the air(web)waves. Looking forward to hearing your interview.

Love the Garbage! Saw 'em a few weeks ago in Brooklyn (didn't play this song, though). I remember hearing Meredith-- was it on WNEW or somewhere else?

Sadly I"m only able to listen live for a few minutes due to a meeting at 12:30 but I will surely listen on the archives.

thanks Mark! lots of her archives up, so check her out sometime when you want a blast from the past. Meredith had a show here before she had one on Sirius.

Sorry, I was concentrating on something else. I do remember Meredith, although not that well. I knew the name was familiar, but when I looked up her Wikipedia page, it mostly talked about her Real Radio gigs. I guess if I'd read far enough, it might have mentioned Fmoo.
  12:23pm
Mark R:

Very cool, thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm
Parq:

That's right, it was a 'kicker show! I didn't listen as often as I would have liked but I did dig it.
  12:25pm
Mark R:

I know it's a challenge to your nocturnal alarm clock, but your daytime show is providing a much-needed service du to Megan's recent stroke of good fortune, job-wise. I'm sure it won't be too long before Doug finds another daytime host and you can return to your crypt and do a night-time show. I like it, because I've become a day-person in my old (middle) age.
  12:26pm
Mark R:

Seriously, I still LOVE Heart. I suppose a lot of FMU-ers consider them too mainstream, but fuck 'em!
Avatar 12:26pm
Julie:

let's not forget the "H" in Meghan's name ;) Yes, it's a bit rough... Not sure where I want to move to yet though.

Hi Coela!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm
Parq:

One of the things I really admired about Grace Slick was her frankness. Once, an interviewer cautiously asked her about the opinion of many that much of the Starship's material was pretty bad. Her response (quoting to the extent memory permits) was, "I'm sure it was. I wouldn't know. All I remember was that they gave me songs and said 'Sing this and we'll give you more cocaine,' and I did."

ha Parq i read that too somewhere! honestly i generally dislike her singing, when she sings lead (good harmonies with Marty though) but i like that forthrightness about her too.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm
Parq:

Coales, I always liked their version of Triad better than any with Crosby. I just think it works better as a worldly woman singing to two adoring boys.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm
coelacanth∅:

haha it does make it seem less creepy, doesn't it?! (sexist bullshit as that is, but true. women can get away with a lot more in that regard)
...i do love David Crosby's voice though.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm
Parq:

On the contrary, I think it's counter-sexist. Remember, this was decades before cougars and aggressive women. A guy expecting his girlfriends to share him was okay, even laudatory, but women were supposed to be sweet and submissive. Grace, as was her way, said fuck that shit.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm

oh Parq i wasn't saying her singing that song is sexist; all i'm saying is that some people call Crosby singing it creepy & sexist but not cast the same closed-mindedness to Grace, even though they're both singing the same thing.

A + show. As for Bjork, I remember her appearing on the old Fox-spoofing Colbert show, promoting her album Biophilia. Clearly a fan, Colbert tried to stay in character, berating her for making an album promoting science because "science is bad, since is evil!" She smiled him a charming smile and gently continued expounding on the album. He gave in, completely broke character and remained a gushing fanboy for the rest of the segment.
