I'm runnin' like a cat on a hot tin roof! Even if it's only 45 degrees.
  3:19pm noel:

When it's 45 in February you'll be walkin' around in shorts.
Avatar 3:41pm Sid:

Actually, after the snow and 30 deg weather we had last week in the eastern US, 45 does seem like something of a reprieve
  3:43pm noel:

I got my window open today. Took my wife 2.5 hours to go from Elizabeth to Short Hills Thursday. I was reading Google Traffic to guide her on the phone. Would have been double that if I hadn't.
Avatar 3:45pm Sid:

That and the Waze live map are good. I don't remember how I lived w/o my GPS in the car w traffic.
  3:47pm noel:

Rotten drivers and bad weather reports cause that mess. I'll look up Waze thanks.
Avatar 3:47pm Sid:

Although Thursday was an epic fail from down her in MD all the way up to Boss-town.
Avatar 3:48pm Sid:

Down ~here~ in Central Maryland....
  3:49pm noel:

She had a 9 mile commute which takes 40 minutes normally. North East jersey is a BEAST.
  3:51pm noel:

by Center Md you mean over by I81 or DC corridor.
Avatar 3:51pm Sid:

I heard stories of school childern sleeping in schools in North Jersey. And apparently the new Bayonne Bridge is steeper than it used to be.
Avatar 3:52pm Sid:

Central MD - I-81 corridor near Hagerstown.
  3:55pm noel:

Passed it on the way back from Charlestown WV. The road outside my apartment was too steep and cars got stuck there too. The ice was everywhere. The state Brined it on Wednesday but it just was too much snow and ice.
Avatar 3:57pm Sid:

Huh, so they did brine in advance? The temps were lower than they forecast originally.
  4:00pm noel:

They brine every time bad weather is forecast. I can't blame the DOT. It was the rapidity and aggressiveness of the storm and bad driving. My wife's from ERIE Pa. and can drive through anything. Last Christmas she pull us out of 34 inches in Erie.
Avatar 4:06pm Sid:

Yeah, lake effect snow expertise is no match for bad drivers and urban gridlock.

I think I still have my Casio keyboard that does the dog effect!

Noel: DNA evidence of my sordid past during the hoary days of the 1950's and 60's still likely exists in soil samples in and around Colonial Way and by both St. Rose of Lima and Glenwood School.
  10:14am hypoallergenic hippie:

Last week's show, November 11, you played a novelty song by "The JEFFERSON HANDKERCHIEF." Do you have any idea how its songwriter, Challenge Records chief talent scout Dave Burgess, may have specifically chosen a Jefferson Airplane tribute pseudonym?
  2:57pm former hippie:

No, but I'm a willing learner. I'm not willing enough to google it myself right now, but would love to hear why.
Swag For Life Member 3:48pm Peapeagirl:

Yeah Ronnie, yeah The Band!!!
Not enough punch/pop or I think Wendy might have chartered better. Still can't believe Gary is
Jerry's son. I hear, "This Diamond Ring," and see the telethon in my minds eye.
  6:15pm hypoallegenic hippie:

Thanks to a DJ giving my humorous and informative excursions a warm home (vs grievance-imagining narcissists deleting this listener away).
Thanks to JOHNNY MATHIS for giving us JEFFERSON AIRPLANE.

Searching "JEFFERSON HANDKERCHIEF" and "I'm Allergic to Flowers" merely yields songwriter Dave Burgess' name. (YouTube comments for the song may yield more info.)

In 1957, Challenge Records (bad label name, stress-inducing) was founded with singing cowboy Gene Autry. Singer-songwriting studio musician Dave Burgess was brought on board to bring the label success. That year when he assembled other musicians to join in the recording of a song of his, the throwaway what-do-we-put-on-the-"B"-side jam with Burgess on rhythm guitar was the million-selling sensation, "Tequila."

In 1962, Challenge rechristened embryonic talent Marty Buchwald to record as MARTY BALIN; he'd release 2 singles including a Burgess-written track. Even with Glen Campbell on guitar these weren't noteworthy, even bad. A few years later Balin took off with Jefferson Airplane's different music style.

Therefore, "I'm Allergic to Flowers" by "Jefferson Handkerchief" is most certainly a personal wink and tip of the cap from Dave Burgess to one that got away.

.
Lemme BOOKMARK some links, beginning with a 2017 blog post itemizing many names passing through Challenge. Micky Dolenz ! Those Blossoms' records you've played weren't hits ?

Next, from April of this year: "Modern [Records] owner Jules Bihari pulled a gun on me."

Then, Believe It or Not: Bored with playing the same songs on the road, replacement Champs Seals and Croft switch bands with the Crickets, thinking the audience won't notice. By T. Morgan

@ppg: And Gary Lewis ghost singer Ron Hicklin is Michael Shelley's guest next Saturday. Darn I couldn't attend Gary Lewis' latest visit to Springfield, NJ's free concerts this summer.
