Mr. McDowell,

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10am Scott McDowell:

Good morning all
Avatar 9:10am Lixiviated Life:

Is it time for Idiots Delight ?
Avatar 9:10am TDK60:

Hi. Usually not able to be here. Good to hear a live version of "Creator."
Avatar 9:11am Lixiviated Life:

How I miss the old WNEW fm days.
Avatar 9:11am Chris from DC:

Yeah, good call on the Pharoah.
Avatar 9:12am northguineahills:

As much as I love Ken's mornings, Scott's hits me perfect!
Avatar 9:12am Lixiviated Life:

Vin Scelsa et. al.
Avatar 9:14am PKNY:

Pharoah will be swinging through NYC next month to do a string of shows at Birdland, for those that are interested.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:15am melinda:

greetings all
  9:16am adrian in mpls:

Ahhh one of my favorite songs! Love this Pharoah. Probably the most played song on WCBN in Ann Arbor - where I learned about the greatness that is freeform
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:16am Uncle Michael:

Good morning. Is anyone else sitting at their job with absolutely no work to do?
Avatar 9:19am TDK60:

Hope to see a Pharaoh full concert. I heard him (among others) perform one tune at Ornette Coleman's memorial. Wow, did he sing on his sax.
Avatar 9:20am Linda Lee:

good morning, Uncle Michael! i sit at home overwhelmed by what needs doing. same difference.
  9:20am Sami:

I've been wondering where all the Pharoah Sanders boots are. Thanks!!
  9:20am randyfrommichigan:

@Uncle Michael yes, or work to do but don't feel like it. At least I'm working from home. :D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22am Uncle Michael:

If I was at home I would be making pie. So I sit, and think about making pie.
Avatar 9:23am Chris from DC:

We don't really have down time. But we get to go home at 3, so there's that.
  9:24am randyfrommichigan:

@Uncle Michael Great idea. When my daughter wakes up she'll be making pumpkin pie so I will be thinking of that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24am karlward:

This is jamming.
Avatar 9:25am northguineahills:

Louis Armstrong did a good version of this....
  9:25am randyfrommichigan:

@adrian in mpls I went to U of Michigan and also my son is going there now, lives in Ann Arbor so I go there often but I've never tried listening to WCBN, maybe I need to try it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26am Ken From Hyde Park:

There was lots of pie discussion about 24 hours ago right here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27am queems:

here for pie talk
Avatar 9:28am Itzall Ablurr:

Good morning all! Let's have some pie and coffee.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29am Ken From Hyde Park:

I have the fixin's for an apple pie and a blueberry pie in the fridge. Will start baking this evening.
Avatar 9:30am Linda Lee:

i sit & think about others making pie. :-D
Avatar 9:36am Chris from DC:

Liking Jahlights a lot.
Avatar 9:36am PKNY:

Wholeheartedly agree with @Scott, that Jonny Greenwood comp is a great one!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38am karlward:

Pineapple pie: discuss.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:39am queems:

@karlward hard pass
  9:40am dei xhrist:

On a scale of pecan pie, would pineapple be sweeter or less sweet?
Avatar 9:40am northguineahills:

*nihongo* opie?

Avatar 9:40am Chris from DC:

Holy cow, Ian and Nate, awesome!
Avatar 9:40am TDK60:

I love pie. Cherry, blueberry, pumpkin, pecan. But I've never made one! Hmmm...gotta try soon.. Never had pineapple, karlward.
Avatar 9:41am Linda Lee:

@del xhrist: given sugar content equal elsewhere, i'd say pineapple pie is sweeter.
  9:41am iiibeat:

Which record shop in Richmond??
Avatar 9:41am Linda Lee:

sugar content aside of the main ingredient..
Avatar 9:42am TDK60:

..less sugar is more.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42am queems:

i am a big supporter of pineapple on pizza pie though don't @ me
Avatar 9:43am Linda Lee:

@TDK60 ~ right. that's why i'd prefer pecan pie to pineapple!
  9:43am iiibeat:

Pickles on pizza is better
Avatar 9:44am Chris from DC:

Thanks, I missed this set.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44am queems:

  9:44am Brendan:

Baking last night til 2. If you get a wild hair to bake at 10 pm, just forget it. Underestimated the proof time.

Avatar 9:45am βrian:

Wait. How could you go to Michigan and not know WCBN? That's un-possible!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45am queems:

@tdk60 i like to think that any pizza lover is a friend of mine
  9:45am iiibeat:

Thank you sir
Avatar 9:46am northguineahills:

I don't like sweets, except in bites, so, agave syrup and the occasional maple syrup are my sweeteners for pies, but I do make a lot of savory pies.

Soft-serve pickle ice cream! ethnojunkie.com...
Avatar 9:49am TDK60:

...the venerable Fabio has pontificated on the awfulness of pineapple on pizza. But I see, queems, that we do share a love of pizza. Your half can have pineapple; my half with black olives and onions.
  9:49am iiibeat:

Soft serve pickles . . No ice cream . . Too much sugar
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52am karlward:

Coconut pie: discuss.
Avatar 9:53am βrian:

Real black olives, I hope. Not those canned nodules of nothingness.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54am queems:

@karlward hard pass ^2
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54am karlward:

Note from the moderator: discursions into the merits of "truck stop" or "fried pie" are also acceptable when discussing coconut pie.
Avatar 9:54am βrian:

@karlward: No, that's "Coconut pie: discus."
Avatar 9:55am TDK60:

NGH: Don't know if I've had many "savory" pies. That means non-sweet? Wait, I did have a quiche & potato pie once. Good.
Avatar 9:56am βrian:

A good quiche is hard to beat. I'm partial to tomatoes and goaty cheese. Caramelized onions are nice, too.
Avatar 10:01am Itzall Ablurr:

Quiche, a tangent of pie-talk. My personal favorite is spinach/bacon/muenster cheese. Savory A.F., delicious.
Avatar 10:03am TDK60:

..way-pie-tangential: was in Southwest England this summer, had a "pasty" (pr. pass-tee) they make meat ones, I had cheese & onion; shaped like a calzone.
Avatar 10:05am βrian:

@TDK60: You've never been to the U.P.? Cornish minors brought them to the region in the late 19th century.
Avatar 10:08am βrian:

There's a Chowhound thread here. During winter months, you can have them shipped to you.

Avatar 10:08am TDK60:

βrian: You mean Michigan? Never been that far north in MI. But yes, Cornwall is where I had a pasty. And a "cream tea" too...that's a whole other discussion.
Avatar 10:11am ben abs:

Pasties are the Best!
Avatar 10:12am ben abs:

especially cheese and onion, great choice TDK60
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12am steveo:

hi Scott. Favorite new thing = More Klementines
Avatar 10:12am TDK60:

Hi ben abs. Hope war doesn't break out between Devon and Cornwall over the correct assembling of a cream tea.
Avatar 10:12am βrian:

I meant "miners," by the way ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15am melinda:

I had an authentic Cornish pasty once but the fact that it contained kidney ruined it for me, unfortunately. I don't have a taste for filtering organs.
Avatar 10:16am TDK60:

steveo: I've heard this More Klementines combo on several WFMU shows recently. They must be climbing the WFMU Charts!
Avatar 10:16am ben abs:

I think I've only ever had one cream tea, was sort've meh, much more of a savoury guy
Avatar 10:17am Linda Lee:

@TDK60 ~ all the more difficult since the FMU charts are spherical!
Avatar 10:17am TDK60:

ben abs: So you're neutral in the conflict?
Avatar 10:19am ben abs:

I'm gonna back Devon! Sorry to all my Gaelic brothers down in Cornwall, but I prefer Devon!
Avatar 10:19am Linda Lee:

swore i heard Sonny Rollins in Bowie there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19am steveo:

@TDK all hits all the time
Avatar 10:20am βrian:

@melinda: Back in my carnie days, I helped a French cook make a batch of rognons, or kidneys. In the end, they were pretty good, but wow, did the cooking process produce a stank!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21am Devin B.:

Live Fish is great!
Avatar 10:22am TDK60:

ben abs: I've forgotten which county prefers what. But the controversy is: one places the sweet creamed butter on the scone first then the strawberry perserves on top; the other, the preserves first then the butter. Highly contentious. So ben abs, you're not neutral!
Avatar 10:22am Chris from DC:

I'll be picking that Live Fish up, yeah.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22am Uncle Michael:

Consider this a true statement *and* a metaphor:

I do not care what you put on *your* pizza.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24am ⓘⓚⓔ:

Live Fish sure sounded a whole lot better than live Phish.
Avatar 10:24am ben abs:

Butter first
Avatar 10:24am βrian:

But better than sashimi?
Avatar 10:25am TDK60:

I was in St. Just, Cornwall at a café and had my 1rst cream tea. The waiter and I laughed about the controversy. She said, "You're American, you can cut it in half and put all the stuff in the middle and make a sandwich; that would be very American." hee!
Avatar 10:26am ben abs:

What did you do TDK60?
Avatar 10:26am βrian:

Cultured butter or sweet cream butter?
Avatar 10:29am TDK60:

..geez, ben abs, I forget! I think I did it the Devon way (butter first then jelly) even though I was in Cornwall.
Avatar 10:31am ben abs:

Avatar 10:31am TDK60:

Public disclaimer: I found *both* the Devonish and the Cornish people to be fine friendly folks. // But we've strayed from Pie.
Avatar 10:33am northguineahills:

@ben abs: I read that as pasties (what stripteasers use in jurisdictions where topless nudity is verboten, but I do make amazing pastes (the Hildalgo version of the Cornish pasties)(many Cornish miners immigrated there in the 1880s for the silver mines).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33am ɛɨk:

Who's this bozo? He really, really, really can't sing.
Avatar 10:33am βrian:

@TDK60: Will there be pie after Brexit?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34am Uncle Michael:

I could listen to Bird Song all day. Scott, could you play Bird Song all day, please?
Avatar 10:34am northguineahills:

Pachuca, Hildalgo, Mexico.
Avatar 10:34am Sem:

Dead to rights, ike.
Avatar 10:34am Chris from DC:

My favorite pi is approximately 3.14159265358979
Avatar 10:34am βrian:

Trouble plays bird song. I like hers better, frankly.
Avatar 10:35am Linda Lee:

it's the song, not the singer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35am Scott McDowell:

Uh oh I didn't mean to start anything. Pie PIE PIE! : )
  10:36am judy from croton:

This version of bird song is too too much
Avatar 10:36am βrian:

@Chris from DC: Listener Cheri Pi would agree, I'd guess.
Avatar 10:36am northguineahills:

Wait, did Jeff Conklin bust in and take the controls, totally Avant Ghetto!
Avatar 10:37am northguineahills:

@Chris: I need 75 more decimal places....
Avatar 10:38am northguineahills:

arrrgh, now I'm hungry for Hildaguese pastes!
Avatar 10:39am ben abs:

@NGH, would love to try them! - What the main diff? - Am vegetarian so don't indulge in the traditional cornish anyway
Avatar 10:39am Itzall Ablurr:

Back from apparently important work discussions; have I missed any salient pie points?!?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40am Uncle Michael:

I like the MSG Bird Song with Branford...for a late period offering.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40am ɨkɛ:

Sorry, I'm incorrigible. Jeff Conklin occasionally threatens (half-jokingly... I think?) to ban me when I bust the Dead's chops during his show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41am Scott McDowell:

HAHA fair game
Avatar 10:42am northguineahills:

@ben abs: Mexi wife is vegan, so, I usually do veggie chorizo w/ jalapenos, onions, and spices, and tomatoes.
  10:43am judy from croton:

This song was written about janis joplin as everyone knows but i will pointlessly point out
  10:43am Morphe:

Was there not a famous Punk Tune/part of a lyric: Bring Me the Head of Jerry Garcia... I pretty much only liked Pigpen's voice/sound.. "Just A Box Of Rain" I am only 57 and drove from HotSprings Yellowstone to Red Rocks Co in 1976(15 years old) in an overloaded hippy filled van running over JackRabbits through the Praire night... THUMP THUMPTHUMP THUMPPPPP
for a GD show in Red Rocks, Co ...Please do not tell my mother
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43am Uncle Michael:

I think announcing distaste in the comments for something the host is playing is the least interesting thing a person could possibly post. But, please yourself.
Avatar 10:43am ben abs:

@NGH, sounds Amazing!
Avatar 10:44am northguineahills:

Ike, incorrigible, well, I never!
Avatar 10:45am TDK60:

I try to maintain a no-negative-comments-on-music stance on the Woofmoo boards. (But if Ted Nugent or Grand Funk came on, my stance might falter.)
Avatar 10:45am ben abs:

Flatley my dear, I don't Riverdance
  10:47am Morphe:

TDK60 - you left out the eagles [lower case on purpose!!!]
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47am karlward:

I limit my negative comments to Jefferson Starship. That's where I draw the line. Starship is the only artist that makes me question John Allen's choices in music.
  10:47am T from New B:

Thanks so much for that version of Bird Song. It brought my mellow on for today and perhaps through the weekend as well. A great thing about The Long Rally is that it lasts a long, long time after the show.
Avatar 10:48am βrian:

When it's understood the host is being a bit sadistic, you just gotta pipe up!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49am ɨkɛ:

@UM, touché. These days I try to at least make it funny or peculiar in some way. Simply venting is usually pointless indulgence, with rare exceptions: Pseu Braun, for instance, raises venting to an art form somehow. But I'm no Pseu.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49am Scott McDowell:

thanks t from new b : )
Avatar 10:49am TDK60:

Am I a rare breed? I like *some* of the Dead; don't love 'em, but don't hate 'em. Am I a loner?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51am Uncle Michael:

Ike, Pseu's rant about neighborhood pollutants yesterday was a work of art.
  10:51am Morphe:

TDK60- You are not alone. As I wrote above I drove 800 miles for a concert - but preferred PigPen's sensibility..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53am crateslinger:

I followed the Dead in the '87 up and down the West Coast. I sold beer in the parking lot to make my way. It was a blast. The girls were amazing!
Avatar 10:53am βrian:

I know folks who didn't particularly care for the Dead but would go to their shows. I think it was really just background music to them. They went for the atmosphere and to meet old friends.
Avatar 10:54am TDK60:

..as to San Fran '60s hippies, I'm more a Jefferson Airplane fellow. And Country Joe & The Fish. But the Dead were longer-lasting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54am Ken From Hyde Park:

I hear Raspberry Pi makes an excellent electronics kit.
  10:56am Listener Gregory:

To some degree, ANY personal opinion about the music is kind of uninteresting: I love this! This is awesome! This is boring! I hate this group! Who really cares? On the other hand, I do this all the time, and I really am thrilled to hear Steve Lacy being played. So, if we permit gushing positive opinions, I think negative views should be accepted with grace. IMHO.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57am Uncle Michael:

Ken, after putting together my first Raspberry Pi project, I was so chuffed that I had to hold myself back from turning it into a new hobby.
Avatar 10:57am βrian:

I heard about those sheets of paper they would sell, with a grid of little beer steins printed on them. Aye, beer!
  10:57am T from New B:

We don't hear enough Sopwith Camel - another great 60s SF band
Avatar 10:57am TDK60:

..saw the Dead only twice; one show was just ho-hum; the other show glistened.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58am Ken From Hyde Park:

Outstanding, UM!
Avatar 10:59am northguineahills:

I saw the Dead summer of '95 my freshman year, just out of curiosity, as I wasn't into their music at the time. I had a blast, and about four years later I slowly got into their music (starting from the early period).
Avatar 10:59am northguineahills:

(just two months before Jerry passed)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59am Uncle Michael:

Gregory, I find that to be a false equivalency. "I like this" is often an expression of appreciation for the job the host is doing. "I don't like this" obtusely avoids fact that listening isn't compulsory.
Avatar 11:02am northguineahills:

I'm w/ Gregory about Steve Lacy....
Avatar 11:04am βrian:

What does the WMFU T-shirt look like, anyway?
  11:05am Listener Gregory:

@Uncle, I see your point. But comments are not just to the host. Often they are a way to get a conversation started. For the record, I enjoy the variety played on WFMU, and I don't expect to like everything that's played. If I say I don't like something (which I seldom do), it's not intended as a complaint. That Steve Lacy was awesome, by the way!
Avatar 11:08am βrian:

It calls to mind experiments in cooking. Sometimes it just doesn't work. It's okay to discuss that... as long as you don't dump your food on the floor.
Avatar 11:09am TDK60:

I'm a fan of music in F# minor; and D major. Songs in C, I have to really try...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11am Uncle Michael:

What sorts of conversations have you seen started by expressing your dislike for something, Gregory? Are you challenging other people to defend it? If you want to know what other people appreciate about something, a question might serve better than a condemnation.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12am tim from champaign:

Howdy everyone! I missed the pasty discussion. Pasty's are dee-licious!. I could be mistaken but I believe the the Michgan UP pastries are primarily Welsh with some Finnish pasty stylings in the mix. I also learned some time back while visiting Amsterdam that there is a Surinamese pasty. Where's Cecile when we need her?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13am Uncle Michael:

βrian, a postmortem on a failed kitchen experiment serves a purpose. I don't think we're going to convince the Eagles not to become a band.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13am Uncle Michael:

I really should just be thinking about making pie.
Avatar 11:14am TDK60:

ben abs: It was in St. Ives where I had my cheese & onion pasty. Right there on the beachfront.
Avatar 11:14am βrian:

"My, it's interesting you chose to incorporate cherry kool-aid mix in your pasty filling. I wouldn't have thought of that myself."
Avatar 11:14am northguineahills:

@TDK: I'm more into the 36th ratio of the key of F, myself....
  11:15am Listener Gregory:

@Uncle, Well, I could say I don't like X, and you could say their sound is not for everyone, but their guitarwork is great, and someone else could say they never liked X until they heard Y, and on it goes. I wasn't planning on "condemning" anything, though.
Avatar 11:15am Chris from DC:

Yay, Sky Furrows.
Avatar 11:15am ben abs:

Came for the pasties, stayed for the music
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16am Uncle Michael:

"condemning" is a strong word, but we're speaking in the abstract.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17am tim from champaign:

Fuck yeah, X's guitarwork is great. Billy Zoom is the greatest.
Avatar 11:18am βrian:

Similar to pasties, a local bar used to serve Zapatas, which had a filling similar to a burrito. Though the crust was more like a calzone, I guess. Satisfying.
Avatar 11:18am TDK60:

Now Y, they don't even like pie or pasties.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18am Uncle Michael:

The thing is, and this is just me, I'm not generalizing, if you say "I don't like X," I have absolutely no stake in changing your mind or justifying my affinity for it/them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19am Uncle Michael:

(pie, pie, pie)
Avatar 11:19am ben abs:

Never heard Sky Furrows before, some groovy stuff
  11:20am judy from croton:

As Ken used to say, when you listen to fmu, you’re either running to turn it up or turn it off. Much like life itself
Avatar 11:21am TDK60:

ben abs: are you really sure they're groovy? hehhee
Avatar 11:21am ben abs:

TDK60 - you must visit again (as will we!)
Avatar 11:21am northguineahills:

@βrian: Zapatas, not to be confused w/ zapatos (as much as I love eating shoe leather).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22am crateslinger:

The best thing I saw on tour with the Dead was Carlos Santana when I was on the green mesculin. I lost my mind - almost made it to the stage like five times but kept getting "bounced" I could "see" the music, maan. It kept pulling me forward. Seriuosly.
Avatar 11:22am βrian:

But the same source, etymologically, no?
  11:23am Listener Gregory:

There was a good conversation in Destination:Out among people who love Bill Frisell and those who find him boring. At the end, we all felt better for it.
Avatar 11:23am northguineahills:

I believe there is only one wfmu dj that I'd usually prefer not to listen to, and I have to admit, that's an impressive trait.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23am crateslinger:

those were supposed to be "air quotes"
Avatar 11:24am northguineahills:

@Gregory: Frisell: is both amazing and boring, depending on the album, but I still love him live.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24am crateslinger:

I hate it when people diss the dj. I did it once and felt so bad I didn't log in for weeks. It's a dick move.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24am Carmichael:

Heya Scott and gobblers. I really like Bill Frisell, but I'm sure he can be a *challenge* to some listeners.
Avatar 11:24am ben abs:

@NGH - Same, I wonder if it's the same one? Alas, lips are sealed out of respect
  11:25am HChew:

Sho do love that CONNIE ACHER
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am Scott McDowell:

: )
Avatar 11:26am TDK60:

ben abs: I'd love to go back, great area there, St. Ives, St. Just. I got to join a folk singalong at the club in the Western Hotel. (They have jazz & blues too.) Great pub in the village of Zennor- The Tinners Arms, erected in 1271!
Avatar 11:26am ben abs:

Can anyone think of any pastry related songs tho??
Avatar 11:26am northguineahills:

@ben abs: It didn't help that said dj was terse when my band was vacating the studio when we performed live. That said, that dj does play decent stuff sometimes.
  11:26am Mike Wolf:

Hans! We know you do.
Avatar 11:28am northguineahills:

@ben abs: Pirateers - Cornish Pasty Song?
Avatar 11:28am βrian:

There's one DJ whose music I like but whose patter I find wearisome. (Patter-some?) Took me a while to figure that I just needed to spin the dial.
  11:28am HChew:

@mike wolf - busted! LOL
Avatar 11:28am ben abs:

@NGH - not the same then, mines purely music based, the dj is really nice
  11:29am Listener Gregory:

Dissing the DJ in comments is over my limit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29am Carmichael:

A search of Allmusic shows over 1,000 songs about either doughnuts or pastry.
Avatar 11:29am ben abs:

@NGH going to do some research into pastrycore later on

I Like Chicken Pie by that guy...Ry Cooder
comes to mind.
  11:31am randyfrommichigan:

@βrian well I went to U of Michigan for my MBA part time evenings and weekends while working full time, commuting from home, late 90's ... so since I never lived there maybe why that's why I didn't listen to any local Ann Arbor radio.
  11:32am Morphe:

TDK, etal. SF Sound: Moby Grape, Blues Magoos, Quicksilver Messenger, CJ Fish " Mabye if you're lucky and you can't go to the ghetto, the ghetto will come to you" or "Sweet Lorraine" or the box..
Avatar 11:33am northguineahills:

ben abs: Oh, my bias is music based as well, just the personal encounter didn't help my opinion.
Avatar 11:33am ben abs:

TDK - Will have a look at that pub
Avatar 11:34am βrian:

I did undergrad and grad there. I'm pretty sure I listened to Station Manager Ken there, too, but the actual shows from back then escape me.
Avatar 11:34am northguineahills:

I somehow once came up w/ a veggie chicken pot pie for my wife (as well as southern vegan recipes as well). (she does the desserts, I do everything else.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35am Devin B.:

Avatar 11:37am TDK60:

Morphe: love CJ & Fish's first 3 albumz: early LPs of Quicksilver Messenger Service and Moby Grape too! // I love Bill Frisell, what a guitar sound, that lonesome sound.
Avatar 11:37am βrian:

@NGH: I usually avoid seeming meat equivalents, but I've heard that some veggie chorizo (or whatever on wants to call it) can be really good. Any advice?
  11:37am egould310:

Sky Furrows was good. I immediately went to Spotify to save it. But alas, it’s not on Spotify. So sad.

Happy Thanksgiving everybody!
Avatar 11:38am Chris from DC:

Also, yay Dire Wolves!
Avatar 11:38am TDK60:

ben abs: Zennor, a tiny village about 3 miles south of St. Ives. The Tinners Arms folks were gracious and talkative. I sat there one afternoon for hours nursing a coffee and they didn't mind.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39am tim from champaign:

What instrument is making that woozy sound?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39am crateslinger:

I heard some weird shit in the woods the other night. Something was murdering something else. Maybe it was a Dire Wolf.
Avatar 11:40am βrian:

We've been hearing owls in the pre-dawn hours. City living.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42am Uncle Michael:

Brian, we have a very noisy pre-dawn owl. It's been a while. The hawks had pushed deep into owl turf here in recent years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43am crateslinger:

Whenever we hear owls, the pitbull doesn't seem to notice, but the chihuahua very quickly hides under a chair.
Avatar 11:43am TDK60:

ben abs: I also enjoyed finding out about the longtime art colony in St. Ives --art museums, galleries, studios. Traditional landscape painters and abstract. St. Ives also was where Donovan bummed around before going into the music biz.
Avatar 11:44am βrian:

Do they compete? We seem to have both. Seems like they just tip their hats in passing as they change shifts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44am tim from champaign:

I saw salmon swimming upstream and spawning for the first time in my life. I grew up in a town that had a sizeable river with fishladders but never went to see the salmon run. I loved seeing that.
  11:46am Morphe:

TDK: when I was 13 (1974) my IrishCountry parents shipped me to SF from Bklyn(to get me away from my Marijuana smoking friends) to a crazy bachelor uncle living in an SRO above a tuxedo rental shop with a blinking Neon sign on Mission and 26th street.. That was a trip - I only did acid 3 times but that was a trip !!!!!!!! SF sound forever!!!!
Avatar 11:46am northguineahills:

@βrian: Trader Joe's veggie chorizo is better then the real thing. otherwise, I usually take firm tofu, marinate it for a few days, and then dry fry it, At that point, it isn't a meat equivalent, but the Japanese version. But, if you add veggie chicken broth to it works well (dry fried tofu can get rather tough enough).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47am Uncle Michael:

maybe competition isn't what it is. We had owls out the wazoo for years...then we had hawks, but no owls. Owls are crepuscular hunters and hawks are diurnal. I'm not sure how much their prey really overlaps. Or how willing they are to nest or roost near each other.
Avatar 11:47am northguineahills:

I'm jealous tim....
Avatar 11:48am northguineahills:

There's an owl across the street. Hawks aren't that uncommon around here.
Avatar 11:49am βrian:

We have some veggie chickens living next door. I bet they'd make some good broth. The hawks ogle them, as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50am tim from champaign:

@ngh - yeah it was so cool. I recently moved to a small town on the Puget Sound in WA. There were about 10 harbor seals hanging out in the estuary waiting to catch the salmon. So cool!
  11:51am Listener Gregory:

Owl pie is delicious!
Avatar 11:52am ben abs:

@tdk - looks like a good old traditional country pub. When I am visiting my better half in Stroud, our local is where Laurie lee spent a fair portion of his life
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52am Uncle Michael:

Now I want veggie chicken pot pie.
Avatar 11:53am βrian:

Was that a [d]ump?
Avatar 11:55am βrian:

I still have a weakness for chicken pot pie. Good fresh vegetables and a little tarragon! Fully crusted, of course.
Avatar 11:55am TDK60:

I dug those olde English pubs, most had good food too. Visited one in Widecombe-in-the-Moor in Dartmoor Park, Devon.
  11:56am Brendan:

Great show!
Avatar 11:56am βrian:

Now *this* bird song: Oh, yes!
Avatar 11:57am TDK60:

Yes Scott, this show has been some filling pie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57am Uncle Michael:

I think there will be turkey pot pie at my house next week.
Avatar 11:58am ben abs:

Thanks Scott, great show
