Avatar 10:13pm
Kris Holmes:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20pm
Little Danny:

Speaking of jazz(iness), was that Counts the same group that began as the Fabulous Counts? Who had some cool soul jazz 45s early on?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22pm
Little Danny:

Nevermind. Same Counts alright. Thanks internet
Avatar 10:26pm
Kris Holmes:

Yeah, Moira to Cotillion to Westbound to Aware label hopping, from Detroit I think.

Dean:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39pm

Avatar 10:40pm
Kris Holmes:

  10:42pm
Dean:

Wow, there are that many Bobby Kings?!

[joke]
Avatar 10:45pm
Kris Holmes:

i don't think it's the same guy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48pm
Little Danny:

Love this Tren-Dells. Americanos trying to sound British but somehow sounding even more Americano in the process
Avatar 10:50pm
Kris Holmes:

Yeah heavy Beatles influence on it but that guitar break!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53pm
chresti:

...and the British invasion borrowed from American RnB
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54pm
Uncle Michael:

My British Invasion band will be called The Apostrophe's.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54pm
Little Danny:

too true Chresti
  10:57pm
Dean:

Mine will be either The Inflections or Those Who Add a U after an O in Words Like Color.

Haha Dean!
Good Night UM.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03pm
Little Danny:

@Dean: do I recall you work/worked as an editor?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04pm
Little Danny:

More jazz 45s please mate
  11:04pm
Dean:

Not quite. I'm a librarian who worked long ago as a contributor/typesetter/maniac for Flipside, one of the fanzines in the late '70s that captured the L.A. punk scene.
Avatar 11:05pm
Kris Holmes:

Heading into a whole rest of the show of jazz 45s Dan
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06pm
Little Danny:

OMG Flipside. Dang.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06pm
Little Danny:

Excellent!
  11:10pm
Dean:

Yeah. Those were the days.
  11:11pm
Dean:

My gig was exclusively late '70s, not when they made real inroads during the '80s. I'm there in the first handful of issues.
  11:14pm
Dean:

This from Somethin' Else? To my mind, better by far than Kind of Blue.
Avatar 11:15pm
Kris Holmes:

yep, Somethin' Else. I Love both albums, can't choose.
  11:16pm
Dean:

I once heard an original pressing of this album at a San Diego stereo store, late '80s, on a really good system. Still can't shake it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17pm
Little Danny:

There you go with your crazy opinions again Dean
  11:18pm
Dean:

Yeah, well, here's another: Everything (give or take) is wrong!
Avatar 11:18pm
Kris Holmes:

i bet it sounded like you were right there in the studio, hear Cannonball's stomach grumbling & all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20pm
Little Danny:

Both albums are classics. But Kind of Blue really broke things open in a way that Somethin' Else didn't
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21pm
Little Danny:

On the other hand Kind of Blue didn't feature Miles growling "Is that what you wanted, Albert?"
Avatar 11:22pm
Kris Holmes:

hahahaha
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23pm
Little Danny:

I bought a pristine original copy of Somethin' Else on Etsy for $20.

Cool story bro
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24pm
Little Danny:

God I love Mose's mod 45s
  11:24pm
Dean:

Detail is only one factor. It's the spread, the soundstage, depth, air, definition... My experience of great recordings doesn't turn on verisimilitude, which is not a measurable factor. I don't really know what an actual live performance sounds "like." So, yeah, sometimes telling details make a record more interesting. But mostly my experience attends to the gestalt.

I have three or four copies of Somethin' Else: LP, CD, Mobile Fidelity CD, Japanese LP.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27pm
Little Danny:

Well now I think I agree with you again
Avatar 11:27pm
Kris Holmes:

I don't actually own it on LP, only CD!!!
  11:28pm
Dean:

First pressing, man. The pinnacle.
Avatar 11:28pm
Kris Holmes:

My Jazz CD collection is probably better than my Jazz LP collection, which is kinda saying something.
  11:30pm
Dean:

My jazz 7" collection is...give me a second...the null set.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33pm
Little Danny:

Three long boxes of jazz 45s over here, easily the fetishist peak of my entire collection
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39pm
chresti:

Gosh, I'm a lightweight as far as 7" collecting goes.
Avatar 11:40pm
Kris Holmes:

be thankful for that, being perpetually broke sucks :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41pm
Little Danny:

From my perspective you're one of the fortunate ones, chresti
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41pm
Little Danny:

Or what Kris said
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41pm
chresti:

I'm already perpetually broke
Avatar 11:42pm
Kris Holmes:

yeah but probably from useful things, not Jazz 45s lol
  11:43pm
Dean:

Wenzel's closed before I risked addiction to 7", though I have a few. And now I have kids, which means I have to measure my vinyl needs against their hunger. On occasion, I defer to them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45pm
chresti:

Franco makes up for my lack of a 7" collection. There's piles and boxes of 'em everywhere.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51pm
Little Danny:

Yes! Love this version of "Coral Keys"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52pm
Little Danny:

Wait, what is Franco, chresti?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53pm
chresti:

Oh, Franco Twinkie
  11:53pm
Dean:

More like, "Who is Franco?," LD.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54pm
chresti:

The guy I live with
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54pm
Little Danny:

Oh, that's right!
  11:55pm
Dean:

I assume Franco is the spouse, partner, amanuensis, physical therapist, office manager, or what have you of chresti.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56pm
Little Danny:

You had me at amanuensis
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56pm
chresti:

He's at home reading right now. Right. Partner of Chresti
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57pm
Little Danny:

This is some terrific Svensk bop. Also, looking forward to your pronunciation
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58pm
chresti:

Haha
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00am
Little Danny:

Hey that sounded sorta right. But kind of disappointed here. I would have absolutely mangled it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02am
Little Danny:

Quite a bomb you dropped right there at the end, Kris

Great show, and more jazz 45s please!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03am
chresti:

Thanks! Happy Birthday-40? That's nutt'n!
Avatar 12:03am
Kris Holmes:

Thanks guys!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03am
chresti:

Just keep using the pomade!
  12:04am
Dean:

Wait. Did he say he turns 40 today? Happy birthday. If not, happy some other day.
