BRONWYNNNNNNNNN
  7:08pm
Kate:

I have no sense at all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:09pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

I, for one, welcome our new sensory overlords.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:09pm
melinda:

I would rather lose hearing than sight.

Hello!
  7:12pm
Emily:

I know this is weird for a radio folk, but I think I would least want to lose sight!
  7:13pm
Johnzon:

not to detract from the unusual subject matter of the show and Im sure this has been covered before but it's pretty weird that there are two Bronwyn's on fmu... Ive lived 30 years without meeting a Bronwyn as far as I know...
  7:14pm
Emily:

@Johnzon TOTALLY worth discussing—bizarre, right? I actually know 3 though!
  7:15pm
Kate:

oh nice observation that a high c is more like a tiny point of light SO true
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:16pm
melinda:

I never thought of synesthesia being on a spectrum, maybe I'm at the far end of it. But it makes sense. Face-blindness does seem to be on a spectrum.
Avatar 7:16pm
Richard S:

Have to wonder what this show's color is.....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:17pm
dale:

sense of smell? smell ya later - no fart smells, no rotting meat stench, no gasoline fumes....
  7:17pm
Emily:

@Richard oh I should ask him!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:17pm
queems:

i have synesthesia
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:17pm
ultradamno:

Take smell, it'll make changing the litter box much easier. Or take them all, I hear that boosts pinball skills.
  7:17pm
Kate:

@ Melinda, maybe I'm closer to the middle then because I totally understand why punk all looks the same. . .
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:17pm
queems:

but it's just numbers and color. also things feel like colors sometimes
  7:17pm
Emily:

@queems really??? What kind? Tell us!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:18pm
Tommy in Neversink:

This is fascinating
  7:18pm
Emily:

@queems oh that’s so interesting!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:19pm
queems:

i have a hard time dealing with numbers, but if i have to memorize them, i can typically do it by what colors they are
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:19pm
queems:

letters too, but to a lesser extent
  7:20pm
will from Seattle via mobile:

Idk if it’s synesthesia but i tend to associate orchestral strings with a lush field of green grass
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:21pm
queems:

i think it's called grapheme
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:21pm
Kat in Chicago:

I am bad with faces and it's caused me embarrassment, especially at work with people who I don't see often but am expected to recognize.
  7:21pm
Kate:

@ queems, fascinating, I have no association of color with letters or numbers, just with sounds.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:22pm
ultradamno:

Magic Eye
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:24pm
Kat in Chicago:

Wow, I didn't know that about Chuck Close! That's fascinating.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:24pm
queems:

@kate i always wondered what i would be like to see sounds!
  7:25pm
JakeGould:

Chuck Close’s process is cool. He just draws a grid on a photo and each square is a thing.
Avatar 7:25pm
Richard S:

Here's a really interesting one: Cotard's Syndrome. Simply put, something messes with the part of your brain that deals with your identity. The result? You think you're dead.....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:25pm
Tommy in Neversink:

Being a musician with a good background in theory I hear music in terms of numbers ..the home chord is one , the dominant chord if five....etc. I realize this is a much different thing .After so many years the numbers become those sounds too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:25pm
queems:

i just want to throw in that i miss pig talk
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:26pm
Kat in Chicago:

I miss Bronwyn very much!
  7:26pm
melinda:

I'm good with faces, and it took a while for me to figure out that not everyone is, that there is a spectrum.
  7:27pm
Emily:

@melinda me too! For so long I was so offended when people didn’t recognize me back.
  7:27pm
Kate:

That's wild. Dog faces yes. Human faces no.
  7:28pm
Emily:

@ultradamno Magic Eye! Thank you.
  7:28pm
Emily:

@Kate right?!?! That blew my mind
Avatar 7:28pm
kimzilla:

I seriously cannot tell the differences between classically handsome dudes. They all look the same to me. It is always hard to differentiate them in movies.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:29pm
melinda:

@Emily same here!
  7:29pm
Kate:

@ kimzilla, now that makes perfect sense, its the same guy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:29pm
ultradamno:

There was a period of about half a year that I kept seeing face appear as a plot element on a bunch of TV shows (Hannibal was one of them, so 2013) and then it just stopped. Odd how that happens.
  7:31pm
JakeGould:

Here’s info on a Japanese museum of rocks that look like faces. www.thisiscolossal.com...
  7:31pm
dez:

this is a fantastic episode! I have a kind of conflation with numbers and colors as well as a few with strong emotional cues. 8 and 9 are real assholes, especially to 4. 32 and 36 sound like dishes being broken.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:31pm
Kat in Chicago:

@kimzilla I have a lot of difficulty recognizing actors from movie to movie. Also I get white guys with beards mixed up a lot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:31pm
melinda:

@Kimzilla I can tell them apart but I know what you mean. I've heard that conventional beauty is determined by facial symmetricality, so maybe the symmetry makes them more similar to one another, or just boring.
  7:31pm
Emily:

@Jake I’ve seen that!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:32pm
queems:

@kat all white guys with beards are the same guy, so it's fine
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:32pm
Kat in Chicago:

wow dez!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:32pm
ultradamno:

@Jake That's Pareidolia
  7:32pm

@dez Hahahah this is great.

@queems Hahaha yes
Avatar 7:33pm

DEZ, what?? This is blowing my mind. How did we not talk about this before?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:33pm

lol @queems! some of my best friends are white guys with beards, haha. but the ones I know less well, I get mixed up.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:34pm
queems:

@kat i understand, i've dated like hundreds of them
  7:34pm
Emily:

@melinda that makes sense, really—that facial symmetry makes a face more boring. I always feel like I focus on people’s anomalies or weird little bits, especially facially, and those are the things I LOVE about them.
Avatar 7:34pm
kimzilla:

@Melinda, right? It's the generic symmetry that makes them less distinctive. Bronwyn talks about this a little later.
  7:34pm
Emily:

@queems same
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:34pm
melinda:

Oliver Sacks was face blind, and told a story about seeing what he assumed was his own reflection in a restaurant window, picking crumbs out of his beard and seeing that the reflection didn't do the same. Because it was another man on the other side of the window.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:35pm
dale:

who can't sleep and shaves their head to kill time?
Avatar 7:36pm
kimzilla:

@Jack I wish that museum was closer. I see faces in everything. It's fascinating.
  7:36pm
Kate:

@ dale, the question of the night.
Avatar 7:36pm
kimzilla:

@Dale, right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:36pm
melinda:

That must have been terrifying Bronwyn! The things we take for granted when we recognize faces.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:39pm
melinda:

@Emily the people I find attractive are less symmetrical.
  7:40pm
Kate:

the people I find attractive are less symmetrical in spirit too
  7:40pm
will from Seattle via mobile:

Idk much about this, but I could see there being different gradations of face-blindness. my boyfriend is able to recognize people he knows, but he doesn’t remember faces well. I know other folks like that too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:42pm
melinda:

@will I think there are gradations.
  7:43pm
dez:

I feel like it's related to learning numbers, especially multiplication. 1 is white and passive. 2 is black and helpful. 3 is yellow and the magic number ;).
Avatar 7:43pm
Richard S:

There are so many things with gradiations.
  7:44pm
JakeGould:

All Pomeranians look the same to me.
  7:44pm
dez:

4 is red but totally defenseless. 5 is blue and awesome, everybody wants to be around 5. 6 doesn't like anyone, also yellow. 7 is very regal and purple. 8 and 9 like I said, total dicks, red as well which is why they shit on 4. older sibling type of thing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:44pm
Kat in Chicago:

I would like to visit the magical number worlds of dez and queems
  7:45pm

@dez bahahahahahaAAaaaa
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:46pm
Kat in Chicago:

I've had conversations with people who I totally thought were other people. Especially in bars/clubs.
  7:48pm
JakeGould:

Sounds like Bronwyn’s condition is prone to fascism.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:48pm
Kat in Chicago:

I only recently developed a wide social circle and I've also been working for larger companies, so I've been more aware that I have a slight issue with humans in this regard.
  7:49pm
Dez:

my brother has a whole thing with numbers and personalities and how they interact
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:49pm
Hoboken Jack:

That is very cool about sports, I wouldn't have thought of that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:50pm
Kat in Chicago:

me neither!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:52pm
Hoboken Jack:

What's MY excuse for being so awkward?? :)
Avatar 7:53pm
Richard S:

I'm pretty OK with faces; it's names that I don't really remember.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54pm
Tommy in Neversink:

If I had it I would just respond to anyone who spoke to me very warmly. Just to be on the safe side
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54pm

I'd love to see footage of Inside Edition following Bronwyn at the record fair!
