Hello Adriene, it may be first time here..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:09pm
dale:

i wonder if the coreolis effect makes water spin faster in a 'faster' time zone. and does it spin at all on the equator
Avatar 6:09pm
northguineahills:

Just got here, what's the theme today?

Listener Robert:

I thought Irwin and Jim Price had between them an exclusive on the use of Carl Stalling around there. Until another DJ broke the ice a few days ago.
  6:11pm
Listener Robert:

Isn't HCJB also in Quito? You don't have to travel to hear it.
Avatar 6:11pm
northguineahills:

I saw the Stalling box set in Fabio's store a while back. Still kicking myself for not getting it.

Gyorgy Ligeti's "100 metronomes" would fit perfect here.

Ken From Hyde Park:

Set the WABAC machine for Adriene's show, Mister Peabody!
Avatar 6:12pm
northguineahills:

@Robert: I believe they have a boosting antenna right outside Quito.
  6:12pm
Listener Robert:

You want to make water spin, use a spoon. Any direction you like.
Avatar 6:16pm
northguineahills:

Adriene, you could also use Svalvard or the Isfjord radio stations, both w/ antennas on Spitsbergen, but are now operated remotely from the Norwegian mainland.
  6:19pm
adriene:

@northguineahills Sadly, I didn't manage to find a usable stream for anything on Svalvard for the show this week! Bodo was the next closest.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:21pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

So the peaks of the Andes are, in a sense, higher than Mt. Everest because they are farther from the center of the earth.
Avatar 6:22pm
northguineahills:

Closer to the equator, further from the earth's core on average. Vice versa for the poles.
Avatar 6:24pm
TDK60:

..don't know if off-topic, but I heard the Norwegians just closed down all FM stations, for reasons I don't know.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:26pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

Yeah, I think they're switching over to digital technology. There must be some articles about that on the web.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:30pm
dale:

love the idea of talking to an astronaut via ham and picking it up on shortwave
Avatar 6:32pm
northguineahills:

@TDK: I believe that was only for Nationally owned stations, they are now satellite broadcasted/stream except for booster FM antennas in the far north/rural areas. I believe they still have a handful of private stations.
Avatar 6:32pm
TDK60:

..thanks Ken FHP & NGH.

i've heard a theory somewhere that time keeps on slipping into the future necessitating flight (not unlike, say, a bird of prey) for some reason.
