got into jazz by taking a jazz history class in Brooklyn College. The teacher was Chuck Israels, bassist for Bill Evans (though I didn't know who either was when I signed up). He had to be absent for a few classes, so he sent Lee Konitz to sub (who I also didn't know). Konitz didn't have a lesson plan . He put On The Corner on the turntable ,then stopped it periodically, took out his horn to demonstrate what we had heard, then put Miles on again.
