mornin' party ppl! like Godfather part III, wfmu pulls me back in
  3:02pm
Listener Robert:

So you did what Fabio's said he wanted to do for decades: cut off the "intro" from the previous cut of "Voodoo Party"!

I always liked those bars, though -- thought of them as the conclusion of the previous program.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm
steveo:

yeah i like the bars too, is this a 45?
Avatar 3:03pm
Rev. Turnip Druid:

GREAT SCOTT, in all my years of lurking these hair-waves i don't believe i've nickel-and-dimed before. Perhaps I am frightened.

hey, $mall ¢hange and folks. was not expecting Last to be first for this fill-in. nice.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm

Fabio's opening didn't always have that santana bit in the beginning. i always wondered why he added that.
  3:05pm

I know what a friggin' concept
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm
coelacanth∅:

greetings $¢ and others
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm
steveo:

@coel it's the end of the previous track on the album -- i assumed it's there because the notes overlap
  3:06pm
Ike:

Woah this is head-spinning. And what did you do to "Mr. Giant Man"? It sounded a little slower than usual maybe?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm
coelacanth∅:

Joe D, everybody Loves the $unshine
  3:08pm
$mall ¢hange:

maybe...have it as a file. had the LP a minute ago, which I probably first bought cos of Fabio haha. that's prob why it didn't have the intro. maybe its all together on the LP
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm
coelacanth∅:

steveo on a James Last album? 'sounds like santana!
...anyway for at least a few years when Fabio started on fmu it wasn't there.
Avatar 3:09pm
Rev. Turnip Druid:

Can confirm steveo. Finally scored a copy of Voodoo Party last year. The first time hearing that previous track was very suspenseful: it's all just a prolonged build-up to those last few seconds...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm
Michael 98145:

.. such a sophisticated start !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm
steveo:

ha i bet rev
  3:11pm
$mall ¢hange:

there's some other decent cuts on the LP. haven't listened to it for a minute. out of the 1000 James Last records that's def one of the better ones
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm
steveo:

@coel -- wonder why he switched. we'll probably not get fabio to discuss it.
  3:12pm
Listener Robert:

I e-mailed Fabio to ask him ca. 2000 about it, just to get clarif'n of whether that was part of the previous show or his. He said it was just where the needle dropped when he took that off Voodoo Party, and that some day he'd cut if off. I asked him not to, because I liked it.

But sometimes he plays the Swedish version of "Giant Man", which of course came off another recording and doesn't have a piece of a preceding track.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

Hï hö!
Avatar 3:14pm
Rev. Turnip Druid:

During a recent trip to copenhagen, found a record store with about a hundred-plus James Last LPs, most in mint/sealed condition (no voodoo party, of course). Box sets & everything. Shocking to see so much Last in the same place.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm
coelacanth∅:

i remember Fabio once saying he doesn't really like James Last that much; but behold when Mr.Last checked out Fabio did a really nice tribute....pulled out lots of good music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm

you might be doing something right, mr $¢; I just clickied herbie hancock

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm

Daryl Dragon wrote 'Love Will Tear Us Apart'?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

Yep, I heard some Mean Gene (and Super Dave Osborn) tributes on Nick the Bard's show earlier this morning.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm
fred:

Then again, there's a band of busking musicians sometimes when I get to work, and they're prone to play Hatikvah. Not once did they segue into Hipnosis. I swear I'd drop a sizeable bill in their box it they ever do
  3:48pm
$mall ¢hange:

right! it was some Gunter Hampel records that I saw her on
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm
dave wuz here:

dah badadda dee dah dah
  3:53pm

Maybe the Gunter Hampel record you're thinking of is 8th of July 1969 which features both Jeanne Lee and Anthony Braxton. Especially the track We Move.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm
fred:

@steveo: that was the transition from JM in the AM to The Long Rally, and it was seamless, though I don't think it was intentional
  3:57pm

yes Bill that's probably it! thanks for reminding me gonna grab it

This is almost Danger Bird by Neil Young.

@steveo: I'm not even sure it was archived properly, as Nachum was on the air and there was an online only show before Scott took over. Though there might be older shows archived before the alternate stream
