I really hate the sound of t's voice but played a really super stretched out recording of his wall speech last night on my show.
  6:09pm
Martinibomb:

Does that make him more pleasant to listen to? I bet you can understand him better hahah

Unless you can use Audocity to change his voice.

I love World's Fair stuff. I have quite a bit of Seattle's Century 21 Fair music, but none from this one.

My family went to the fair for my 9th birthday. It was the debut of the Superball.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:11pm
Rich in Washington:

Do they still do futuristic world's fairs anymore? Or have they embraced dystopia as a theme?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:11pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

This is wonderful. I loooooooove any kind of field recordings - enjoying this lot!
Avatar 6:13pm
Don-O:

Rich, being that The Future is NOW, I suspect it's not so Century 21-ish anymore.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:13pm
Rich in Washington:

Dystopian future has always been under our noses all along. We're soaking in it. Only the very rich get to live in utopia. Third world dystopia will spread all around us until it's everywhere and the very rich live in impenetrable citadels.
Now here's Bill with the weather...

@Rich in Washington - not recently, but back in 1993, there was a big, futuristic Science Fair in Taejon (now spelled Daejon) Korea:

I'm getting flashes of the Journal Of Ride Theory and their Wold's Fair issue. His take on the worse WF is great. BTW, the Knoxville WF was voted as the worse and yet the one in New Orleans wasn't mentioned, a slight disappointment there.

For the novice, this site offers great information on the fair...and how much the man behind it, Robert Moses, was a SOB: www.nywf64.com...

Do an image search for "1964 futurama". You'll be glad you did.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:22pm

You can read all about Bob Moses and the Fair in "THE POWER BROKER", which you should read anyway.

If there's one thing I have leaned while I was putting this together: Never go to the fair with Pat Bone. A real prude....he must be related to Lawrence Welk.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:37pm

I suppose you'll be getting to THE TRIUMPH OF MAN which I played obsessively for a few years after the Fair.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:38pm
Rich in Washington:

Never experienced any kind of World's Fair or Expo kind of thing but as a kid in '78 or so our class got to tour Trojan Nuclear Power Plant and its creepy, Orwellian visitor's pavilion, including this sinister 360 degree film speil about atomic power and how any of its critics were essentially Neanderthals.

Webhamster Henry:

Well the fair went on for months, so let's let it go on in real time!
Avatar 6:47pm
Mr Fab:

Rich, sounds like the Atomic Testing Museum in Las Vegas. Def recommended - lots of Atom Age memorabilia, a mock bunker with simulated nuke explosion! But they def try to push the position that nukes were necessary for our freedom, bla bla bla.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:49pm
Rich in Washington:

The whole Trojan thing was to convince people that they could have a working nuclear generation facility right on the river, in a beautiful countryside. No ill effects, etc. Then Three Mile Island happened and before too long, they shut down and decommissioned the Trojan, which never managed to get beyond it's experimental phase and output any power to the grid. It was also not seismically up to snuff, if memory serves.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:55pm
Rich in Washington:

These recordings are fantastic, Don-O!
Avatar 6:56pm
Mr Fab:

Did he just say they feature "industrial music"?!
Avatar 6:58pm
Don-O:

Thanks Rich! I got this collection JUST before my NYC trip and listen to some of this in my old MP3 player while visiting Flushing Park. A time traveling trip.
  6:58pm
Martinibomb:

I didn't realize Trojan never really got onto the grid. I was a little kid down in southern oregon only hearing about it here and there

I could be wrong, but that was my understanding. I would like to read more about it. It loomed large in 70s/80s SW Washington history.
