So many gems on that BW album.

Does anyone have any over the ear headphone recommendations?
Avatar 12:10pm

My only suggestion maybe would get open back headphones if you're using for exercise or outdoor use in general. Closed back get too hot for me. If using in a studio get closed back for sure. Can't recommend what I'm currently using.

She is the best part of Skidoo, other than the "Scrambled eggs," remark.

Carol Channing's son went to my high school. Before my time though.

Barney Grubbs:

this morning I started reading about Carol Channing on wikipedia, which lead to Hello, Dolly!, which led to learning about Louis Armstrong's recording knocking Can't Buy Me Love off the top of the Billboard charts, which lead my discovery that Away from Voivod was in the band Men Without Hats in the early 90s, which was weird.

Re: over-the-ear headphones...kind of depends on where you'd like to use them. Sennheiser HD555s can be gotten used on eBay for $35-50 and are super nice, but they're a bit too big for out and about wear.

We only have ALDI here in ATL. I've heard it's rhymes with Beetle, also.
Avatar 12:49pm
HarktheUmpire:

@chris: not last time I checked. In Germany, Aldi is divided into Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd, each owned by one of the Albrecht brothers. Lidl is owner by Dieter Schwarz.
  12:50pm
The Donut King:

In the Netherlands and German, it's LEE-dul
  12:50pm
Johnzon:

they also own trader joes in a very confusing joint custody thingamajig... aldis europe owns trader joes US and Aldis US owns trader Joe's europe. but trader Joe's is "just doing their own thing"... so emancipated? essentially? these grocery store chain divorces can get so confusing

Supposedly, there is a correct way to pronounce Lidl. Sounds kinda British to me though: www.youtube.com...

Yep - I'm in Germany too, and it is pronounced 'lee del' (well, the 'del' is less than perfect)

But Pseu, we turn to you in these troubled times.
Avatar 1:09pm
HarktheUmpire:

yup, with a short "ee", if that makes sense. I suppose the sound doesn't really exist in english
  1:09pm
mink:

I stand corrected! :-D But sadly I need to still call it liddle because lie-dal sounds super posh and I would be severely mocked
  1:10pm

Right, Lee-del. But then, this is America and we don't say München either!

Lee' definitely exists in English, but the 'ee' is considered long, actually. The e sound in 'let' is considered short

Krys O.:

There's an Italian bakery in my hometown Neri's and we always pronounced it as NERR-EEZ. However, younger folks in the family insist that it is NERR-EYES. You know, like Leonardo DAVINCH-EYE. Language, spelling and pronunciation is soooo variable, said the woman with a complicated Polish last name. :) Chill out, posters.

To be honest, it is entirely possible that Lidl has decided to call itself differently in the U.S. - the e / i confusion between German and English is large

Ha! must be an impostor working for Laidel! everyone knows it is Leedel

I wish ALDI style stores were more popular here. I fucking hate when other people bag my stuff, especially in the ridiculous amount of plastic bags they use. I love the process. It's wonderfully German, and appeals to my love of order and process.

In the U.S., Aldi likely has to use bags, at least for alcohol purchases - in Virginia, I was not able to leave the store just carrying a six pack

Van Duren was another one of those artists that I read about a bunch of times -- in relation to Big Star/Ardent and all that --before I picked up the album. Should not have waited! Speaking of which, has anyone here seen the movie, "Waiting - The Van Duren Story"? I haven't...

could be worse, I'm learning Welsh, all their vowels are different. U's are i's, y's are u's, and I still haven't fully figured out 'wy' yet, I think it might be 'oo'
