Welcome to the world of radio airchecks. this is a shout out to Mark Strickert who really got me into this world, more than just the Dr. Demento, Sweet Dick Whittington shtick I had been collecting up until the early 90's
Avatar 6:14pm
Archivist Vivian:

May listen on phone soon which will mean I'm not on chat.

Archivist Vivian:

Did you ever hear the depressing last few hours of KMET?
Avatar 6:15pm
Don-O:

Kinda. The switch to that soft/easy jazz crap was too much to bear.

I've lived in Chicago for most of my (purported) adult life, but I grew up elsewhere so I didn't hear this station the first time around. This is a trip!

I wonder what I would have thought of the "Den Pals", or whatever they are, as a ten-year-old.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:23pm
Rich in Washington:

I really wanna see the Fred Lane documentary.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:25pm

I like air checks! Good old Laura Cantrell played them on her show!
Avatar 6:25pm

The 'Den Pals' idea is a part of this highly personalized format that boggles my mind.

Archivist Vivian:

I wish I wasn't born in 1995. I missed so much great radio ambiance. I remember stuff from the last half of the 90s though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27pm

I recently bought a 3 record set of a top-30 radio show scheduled to be broadcast in 1986 that was not returned as it was supposed to be.
Avatar 6:30pm

I got a aircheck of Jean Shepherd visiting the 1964/65 New York World's Fair. I'm saving that for a future Worlds Fair show!

LOL at Mexican food being a novelty in Chicago! I'm within walking distance of at least six taquerias.

You can do a show sometime of 100% PAMS station ids.

"The station with the girls..." oof. This is making me cringe, but it's also absolutely fascinating

BarNone released a Equivel live CD that was recorded at that Mexican restaurant.

OT: I just checked the NWS and it looks like my neck o' the woods will have three days of rain! Yea, not as dangerous as the heavy snow stuff, but we got enough burned out areas near us that we're replacing the snow with mud. Good luck out there, everybody!!

I loved Albert's take on break-in records.

The other WSDM aircheck I have is from 1974 and during it's Jazz/Rock years. It still has the 'Den Pals', but not much else from the previous format.
