re: needles - I settled on the Ortofon Concorde MKll DJ. And then have been horrified by all the conversation I've seen about Ortofon destroying 45s. Though I've had no problems with these ... but then again for all I know I've got the weight slightly off and I actually am damaging everything I spin at home. *Shoulder Shrug*

Ortofon are definitely harsher on 45s but I've been using them, carefully, i'm not a fan though
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25pm
Little Danny:

curious to hear your report of said stylus, Kris - I recently eBayed some Shure M447 stylii even though I nearly balked at the price

...truth is i like the weather here.
... though i am considering that my car might be tough to get out for work in the morning -since someone else took the spot that i shoveled last week - the only spot that's nice and smooth and ice-free. now with snow on top of ice it might be challenging.

very chicago, very Leaner Bros labels sound
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45pm

Coel, You drive a Volvo, right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45pm

I've definitely noticed certain 45s playing less noisily on white labels

Danny, today I was singing I Here You Knocking by Quicksilver Messenger Service, I guess a little to loud in the parking lot of the Super A, and a fat lady in stretch pants turned around and looked at me with a scowl on her face.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30pm

Franco this is my 10th (?) volvo and in only one of them (the newest one, a 1993 960 model) the a/c worked. i usually take most of the a/c machinery out anyway, but this one didn't come with a/c.
- it did come with numerous problems. but yes the heat works.
  11:31pm
Johnzon:

probably "room"... my girlfriend gets a big kick out of the way I say Room... she says it sounds like Im saying "rum."

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39pm
Franco Twinkie:

My first Volvo was a '64 122s wagon. Basically a tractor on a car chassis. easy to work on, but would vapor lock in hot weather and stall out in heavy rain, but I was young, and jumping out and pushing was no big deal. I loved that car.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39pm
Little Danny:

Fascinating history about Par-Lo there. Had no idea.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41pm
coelacanth∅:

Johnzon it does, which i'm okay with. it's very slight.
i used my sister's fancy omega to pick up her son from an airport a few weeks ago and it sucked. even though i turned the seat heat off it still was always warm.
(that car really sucks in many ways)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42pm
Little Danny:

also Alaimo's "She's My Baby" is a great moody rockabilly 45
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44pm
Little Danny:

I had an Aussie ex GF who got me hooked on vegemite on buttered toast. Still love it to this day. I love the salty end of the spectrum in general tho
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45pm
coelacanth∅:

the 122 was one of the first cars i ever was infatuated with! my friend Orest got one around 1981 he had it running beautifully. the oldest one i've had was a '69 164. great car but in the end (after 14 years) it was to be too expensive for me to fix.
Avatar 11:47pm
Kris Holmes:

I don't know that Alaimo & dang, Vegemite, gross.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48pm
Little Danny:

I love the term "shooting brake," especially in reference to the 1800ESs. I also love the 1800ESs themselves
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50pm
Little Danny:

Anyone else watch the Bring a Trailer auction site? Tons of fun and odd marques over there. Volvos, for instance: bringatrailer.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50pm
coelacanth∅:

< this was my baby.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52pm
Franco Twinkie:

I was gonna get an PS1800 but couldn't find one with rocker panel's that weren't shot out. A serious design flaw on that car.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53pm
Little Danny:

gorgeous, coel! 1973 164?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54pm
coelacanth∅:

oh man some beauties in there Danny. by the name i thought it was a swedish volvo-tractor-rod site!
(the swedish boys before they're old enough to drive cars are allowed to drive tractors on the streets, so they make hot rods out of tractors; and tractors out of volvos!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54pm
Franco Twinkie:

That grill was a true Volvo oddity! It didn't last long.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55pm
Little Danny:

Yeah, I love the rounded corners softening what is otherwise like the boxiest car of all time
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56pm
Franco Twinkie:

I drove a Volvo tilt cab stake bed a few times. Basically configured like a Mack, but easier to handle.
Avatar 11:57pm
still b/p:

That grill is like baleen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57pm
coelacanth∅:

69 Danny. i bought a 73 for parts, coincidentally, and strangely most parts besides the body were not interchangeable. (and the body was mostly rotted ot). i did get 2 year's use out of it though. much quicker than the 69 but top speed of around 80; whereas i routinely brought the 69er to 110mph, with 3 large passengers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58pm
coelacanth∅:

s b/p haha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59pm
coelacanth∅:

yeh they had to change that grill when the us made cars have "energy-absorbing bumpers"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59pm

thanks for the great show, Kris!
