  10:08pm E. Tage Larsen:

Thank you Therese

Therese, the sadness in your voice is breaking my heart. I'm so sorry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Hi, Therese. Peace and strength to you.
  10:16pm Carmichael:

Let’s all love X Ray.
  10:20pm steveL:

I'm impressed that anyone at WFMU, especially Jones, can speak in full sentences without being overwhelmed by emotion. Y'all are doing just fine!
  10:21pm E. Tage Larsen:

I think Maxwell's is where he licked the stage.
  10:21pm Dean:

Sorry, but listening now to Glen's show this a.m., which I missed. Chicago. "Color My World." The sweetest tribute.
10:21pm el Garee Rayo le Bee~:

"Jerseyist"... got it. Jersey Jeez. love you all

  10:24pm dmart New Mexico:

All of you DJs have been so lovely today. Glen was strong and held steady; Bob pushed forward right after the news; you guys are doing great. Enjoying the show! I stumbled across these two and they were my gateway to WFMU.
  10:24pm asheville jon:

Just hearing about X-Ray. So sorry to hear this.
  10:25pm a.:

I think DAW was short for digital audio workstation
10:25pm el Garee Rayo le Bee~:

Not to worry. Lots of things to play. Doing well! Aren't we all radio survivors?
  10:25pm El Pierogie:

“If you knock over a liquor store, maybe you have some addiction problems, maybe you’re hard up for cash, whatever. But if you’re mean to a dog, you’re just a jerk.” —X Ray Burns
  10:27pm Frank Meegan:

as above- DAW= Digital Audio Workstation. But I mostly know that term through studio recording, like Logic and ProTools. Don't know its use for radio. So sad about X Ray. I never went to the holiday party or one of the remotes but I figured I would one day. I listened every Sunday for years. First time I heard them ever and knew I had to find out what this show was and where to listen, X Ray was saying, "Nothing says, "HOW ARE YA!?!!" like a gun, baby!"
  10:30pm Deborah:

Glen Jones' show was a love song to X Ray.. It was heartbreaking. Still so sad. Thank you for the tribute.
  10:30pm phat:

I'm sorry I missed Jonsey today. sigh
  10:31pm phat:

there are specific DAWs designed for broadcast/radio.

"Beware the Robot Menace... Never give a robot gum. Never point a robot at the sun." - X Ray
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31pm Chop Scott:

Hang in there Therese & Jack! We are all very sad but together on the air. I always worry about the Digital Audio Workstation in Studio B being buggy.
10:32pm el Garee Rayo le Bee~:

Listened to 'FMU and Glen/Xray via dial up.
  10:34pm spodiodi:

that was hard to listen to. i had to turn it off when i sensed scariness
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34pm coelacanth∅:

Glen's show was very different when he started. his music; everything.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34pm medson:

Listening to Jones and X Ray talk reminded me of my Dad and Uncle spinning tales at family parties.
  10:36pm Carmichael:

@medson, exactly. I always loved the banter, like two buds talking shit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37pm Joe D.:

if it wasn't for X-Ray Burns I never would have learned to fully appreciate New Jersey
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37pm Joe D.:

his dogs are crazy cute. poor little pooches are missing him, i'm sure
  10:38pm Nick:

Hey guys--thanks so much for doing your tribute to X Ray. Not being from Jersey, I started listening to them when I moved here some years ago. I will miss his voice on Sundays.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40pm Vanessa bikes:

Thanks for paying tribute, I am pleased that this passing is being so well noted by the DJs. Sunday WFMU has been my church for 30 years so I have been a member of IBJ for as long as I can remember. The word I keep thinking of for X-Ray is irreverent. So much entertainment from X-Ray and also enlightening to experience getting to know someone who you might have never bothered with yet to appreciate how brilliant and deep they are. This is something I carry on to everyone I meet in life. My deep sympathies to Sharon, Glen, all the DJ's who knew him, his family and all the listeners who cared, we will miss you Kenneth!
  10:41pm Kevin:

Excerpt from L.A Martin Arcticle
Q: What would you say is the guiding philosophy of the program?
J: Live like you wanna live, play what you want, do what you want, and hope someone understands. Burns?
B: Speak the truth, defend the constitution, speak the unspeakable, and live till you die.
Q: If you could instill one value into your listeners what would that be?
J: The first thing that came to mind is probably the thing to say, but it's very corny. I was gonna say love life and shit. Maybe I should change it to lust for life. Enjoy yourself.
B: Enjoy yourself, it's later than you think.
B: The values I would like to instill in the people, even though I'm a jerkoff by trade—I fancy myself a comedian but I'm not a comedian I'm just a jerkoff—but one thing you have to remember is to love your family and remember that each day could be your last, love the lord, be nice to everybody, and stay home. They got all this shit today they're just bringing it into your home out of the sky. There's no reason to go out. And that's it.
10:42pm el Garee Rayo le Bee~:

The best part of "the city" is New Jersey. You're doing great! Time for a version of "Cast your fate to the wind". You all are awesome

  10:45pm Kym:

@Melinda, don't forget all the weird fantasies they had about going into a deli and shoving various body parts into a meat slicer. So much Sunday entertainment...
  10:46pm E. Tage Larsen:

i think i remember him saying he wanted to be stuffed.
  10:47pm Kevin:

I can picture him saying that!
  10:47pm Neil from ft worth:

It’s hard to verbalize the essence of the X-ray/GJ pairing, but you guys are somehow nailing it. Mad props. Love to the WFMU famz

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49pm Chop Scott:

I will never forget trying to run a remote broadcast from the IBJ cruise event on the Jewel with Liz Berg. X-Ray handed me his flask and said that we should set up the gear behind him, we'd be protected and taken care of. True to his word! A magnificent clown prince among men. I raise a glass towards getting' all banged up.

X-Ray Burns (1999): "They did give me a locker. But I contribute very little to the station other than my marathon pledge and every now and then I donate like something, you know, like piece of furniture or something. And I try not to break anything when I'm there. But they've always frowned on Jones even when they didn't know him because he did play like "Kung Fu Fighting" and stuff. And yet they have to understand that your cachet is different from their cachet. And that's the best thing about the station is that everyone's doing their own thing. It's wacko, man, it's wacko. You could listen for like two hours to Indonesian like bug music and you flip over the next minute you got like Mississippi Blues for a few hours and it's great. And there's nothing in this area that comes close, even some of the pretenders. Well, they try, and freeform is good even if you don't agree with the content. But they would kill Jones in Albania. They would kill you for playing "Kung Fu Fighting."
Swag For Life Member 10:59pm Mikey_B:

X-Ray Burns (1999) - "The first time my mom tuned in she heard me tell the story of how I shot the beercan off of Jones's head with a .357 magnum. It wasn't on the air but we were describing the event on the air. And my mother called me up and she was crying and she's like, you really didn't do that with your father's gun. And I said no. No. Even if I was stupid enough to attempt something like that, what makes you think Jones would be stupid enough to let me shoot a beer can off his head. In the meantime I still got the beercan at home. We did cheat though because I was very close and it was a tall boy."
