Unstuck in time, The Avant Ghetto wanders through heavy folk, pastoral noise, spiritual rock, harsh jazz and other dimly lit corners of the universe.

Jeff! Good morning from the snowy splendor of Seattle WA
  12:15am Mike tp:

think I'll let the sound worft around for a couple...
Avatar 12:18am Jeff Conklin:

Yo, Adam and Mike, thanks for tuning in....
  12:19am Art in Vancouver:

Man, just picked up a copy of this same Agitation Free LP on vacation but haven’t spun it yet. First heard them on this show, digging it
Avatar 12:20am Jeff Conklin:

@Art: Nice!
  12:22am Dean:

Had the first two AF albums c.1979, but unloaded them mid-'80s, when I gave up (briefly, it turns out) on rock.
  12:23am Dean:

I regret even more giving up the Epitaph albums.
Avatar 12:23am Franco Twinkie:

Good morning from the moldy spores in the SGV.
Avatar 12:24am Jeff Conklin:

@Dean: Yikes
  12:25am Dean:

My condolences on the loss to WFMU--to all of us--of X Ray Burns. What a remarkable character. Shocking news to me. Just listened to Glen Jones' touching show.
  12:26am Dean:

Yeah, I had a ton of records that I abandoned back then, as have many of us. Fortunately, there's plenty more where that came from.
Avatar 12:30am Franco Twinkie:

Chresti told me all about X Ray Burns when I got home this evening. Although I have no interest in listening to him expire on the air, he has presented me with something to aspire to - going out working at what you love.
Avatar 12:37am Eiderdown:

Damn, these live recordings that Jesse Baked Tapes made are really fantastic. Must've been a hell of a show
  12:37am chresti:

I like this song
  12:37am Dean:

Among the "plenty more" selections of late delivery of which I await: a box set of Elgar conducting his own works, a new recital of Telemann, a triple CD set of Depeche Mode hits, and Alexandre Tharaud's first stab at Beethoven recitals. On top of this, I recently acquired the 12CD set of Braxton's vocal GTM recordings. When? When, if not now while I listen to Avant Ghetto, will I hear all of this?
  12:39am Jeff Conklin:

Was an incredible show. And Jesse does great recordings!
Avatar 12:43am Jeff Conklin:

@Dean: I'm playing all of that in the next set...
  12:43am Dean:

  12:48am Dean:

Also Brooklyn based, though no longer in business, Matthew Swiezynski of invisible birds: beautiful recordings of languorous drones and such. He started in SF and Berkeley, moved to Portland, then Brooklyn, but couldn't keep the label above water, sadly. Still, the catalog is impressive.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04am mb:

We were promised some Anthony Braxton, good sir
Avatar 1:05am Jeff Conklin:

The chances of hearing Braxton on this show are very very very very slim.
Avatar 1:06am Franco Twinkie:

No one in this house watches award shows. Why would we? They never give the time of day to things we like. We listen to music or read, until we fall over.
Avatar 1:09am Eiderdown:

This show IS my Grammys
Avatar 1:10am Franco Twinkie:

....but I do like the promenade of gowns, especially in cold weather.
Avatar 1:36am Eiderdown:

It really is quiet around here in comments-land...too zoned to type perhaps
  1:38am dave in brooklyn:

Whoa, this is how I like my Phil
Avatar 1:39am Eiderdown:

There ya go

man, you always kick off my Monday mornings in fine style. Best way to start my week.
  2:58am dave in brooklyn:

Yet another killer show Jeff, thanks man

I shot some seriously mediocre video of those Dire Wolves & Starbirthed jams that may "complement" Jesse's beautiful recordings:
