Yo ho Don-O!

I wonder if anyone has added up the sheer number of hours Don Joyce/Negativland recorded?
Avatar 6:04pm
Don-O:

That's one hell of a mountain to climb.
Avatar 6:05pm
Mr Fab:

Don't worry folks, you haven't switched over to KPFA. You are still in the Jungle Room. It's an old tape.
Avatar 6:06pm
Don-O:

Just ask Tim Mahony (I think), who's been transferring all of Don's tapes to Archive.org....and he's only half way through.
Avatar 6:07pm
spacebrother:

Hey there Don-O!
Avatar 6:08pm
Don-O:

Yea, that OTE wasn't a single. My lizard brain strikes again with the idea of stuff that SHOULD be singles. Everything should be back to CRAP normal.
Avatar 6:08pm
Don-O:

Hey/Yo, Spacebro....and everybody else!!!
Avatar 6:08pm
spacebrother:

Sounds a bit like Prince.
Avatar 6:09pm
Mr Fab:

I seem to recall Thomas Dolby worked on this soundtrack?
Avatar 6:09pm
spacebrother:

Ok, a lot.
Avatar 6:10pm
Don-O:

Yup, that is Mr. Dolby. He did the songs and John Barry did the score.
Avatar 6:11pm
spacebrother:

Dolby is now a music professor at Johns Hopkins.
Avatar 6:11pm
Mr Fab:

I remember going to school with a film biz wannabe who insisted that "Howard the Duck" was gonna be HUGE. oh yeah, gonna be a BIG hit. What a kiss-ass.
Avatar 6:12pm
Don-O:

BTW, Joe Walsh did the "duck" guitar bits on that single
Avatar 6:12pm
Don-O:

I already mouthed off about that damned film here and everywhere else on the net, so I'll reserve my big fat mouth here.
Avatar 6:13pm
spacebrother:

I think I still have the entire run of Howard the Duck comics.

Don-O! Been listening from the kitchen, cooking up some lunch, bopping to that Disco Galactica theme.
Avatar 6:18pm
spacebrother:

Led Zeppelin would be one to talk about appropriation!
Avatar 6:19pm
Don-O:

Mind you, that's only Part 1. I have yet to brave the seas for pert 2. However, with my luck, I will bump into "it".
Avatar 6:21pm
spacebrother:

I love that Damaskas/ Barnes & Barnes single! Posted it at my short-lived music blog once upon a time. musicnotmusic.wordpress.com...

great start to the show!
Avatar 6:26pm

Thanks. Just keepin' this Crap noisy and confusin'!
Avatar 6:26pm
Mr Fab:

ha, I have a "Green Acres/Purple haze" record, but not this one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:26pm

God. I love this single!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27pm
Rich in Washington:

Funny. I was just blabbing on FB about my years as a teenage dishwasher.
Avatar 6:28pm
Don-O:

Right now in New Orleans, the Krewe Of King James (Brown) is parading through the French Quarter. WHY ARE WE DOING INDOORS LISTENING TO THIS CRAP!?!?!?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:29pm
Rich in Washington:

There's also this weird record by Tom Cameron called Music To Wash Dishes By that's a peculiar electronic music record that supposedly uses his brainwaves to control parameter's ala Alvin Lucier .
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:29pm
Rich in Washington:

This is a fantastic set, Don-O!
Avatar 6:29pm
Don-O:

BTW, dishwasher was one of my jobs while working in the Grand Canyon tourist village in the late 80's. Interesting and browly place.
Avatar 6:30pm
spacebrother:

Damn. I'll make Mardi Gras yet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:31pm
Rich in Washington:

I remember this local weekly article about punk rockers in Portland and how many of them seemed to be 'dish ducks' when not doing music, zines, etc. It made me proud that I had a viable crappy job.
Avatar 6:31pm
Don-O:

SBro, I've been to M. G. a few times and tis were a blast...if you can get use to, say, people throwing their arms in your face to catch the beads.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:32pm
Rich in Washington:

What a great record!
Avatar 6:32pm
Mr Fab:

Mardi Gras in N.O. is a trip to an alternate universe. Standard laws of human decorum do not apply.
Avatar 6:33pm
spacebrother:

Or throwing up on you. I've been there four times, but mostly on Halloween. I've made some local friends who might be able to tell me how to avoid the tourist nightmare.
Avatar 6:33pm
Don-O:

....I'm thinking of doing a Mardi Gras episode on the final weekend of Carnival season, which would be the first weekend of March. I don't think I have enough INTERESTING related MG records to fill up the hour, but I'm willing to try.
Avatar 6:34pm
spacebrother:

That would kick ass.
Avatar 6:35pm
Mr Fab:

Hey, just some good ol' NOLA brass band or r'n'b should do it.
Avatar 6:35pm
Don-O:

...how many versions of 'Mardi Gras In New Orleans' can one take?! I hope Screaming Jay Hawkins did one!
Avatar 6:36pm
Mr Fab:

Man, i want this record. Doing the dishes is my job at Chez Fab. The missus cooks, I clean up. We got a system.
Avatar 6:36pm
Don-O:

Do do got some street brass band sides. I might pile up on those. See what happens.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:38pm
Rich in Washington:

I cook and do dishes. It might be the only thing I'm actually professionally qualified to do.
Avatar 6:40pm
spacebrother:

I went to a club in the projects in N.O. (not knowing that's where it was when the cab dropped us off) to see a brass band. It didn't look like we were welcome at first, but it turned out OK, even though the band never showed up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:40pm
Rich in Washington:

I like doing dishes, especially if it's just my own. It's sort of mediative. I used to like doing the dishes at the radio station for some weird reason. Maybe because I didn't know who left them, just that they were collectively left by people on the same mission as myself.
Avatar 6:41pm
spacebrother:

Ah shit! I remember that 'zine!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:43pm
Rich in Washington:

If it's anything like this show, do definitely do another singles show! This is fantastic!
Avatar 6:43pm

Yes. Diggin' the show!
Avatar 6:43pm

All Hail Planet Pimp Records!!!!

That Golding Institute recording is a real room-clearer.

They're hilarious! I've got that Final Relaxation CD too. It's pretty funny, almost in the same vein.
Avatar 6:47pm
Don-O:

I missed out on that Final Relaxation title.
Avatar 6:48pm
spacebrother:

youtu.be...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:48pm
Rich in Washington:

It's a CD, not necessarily connected to the Sounds Of 7"s
Avatar 6:49pm
spacebrother:

I think the only other Golding thing I know about was "Sounds of the San Francisco Adult Bookstores"
Avatar 6:51pm
Don-O:

I got the full set of the Golding 45's. The airport is a personal fave as I use to be a big airport rat, hanging out at LAX in the very late 70's.
Avatar 6:52pm
Don-O:

Oh, if I wanted to carry on with this fandom rock idea, I'd play some tracks from Trekkie 2 OST.
Avatar 6:53pm
spacebrother:

Ah, I see now. Discogs to the rescue.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:53pm
Rich in Washington:

I tried to launch my own Sounds of American Kooks series but burned out. Just a CDR thing among radio weirdos. I should dig them up.
Avatar 6:55pm

Please do!

I love the narration on these!
Avatar 6:56pm

I got only enough time to do side one of this single, so the pain should be short. Enjoy!
