Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24pm

chresti, yes...as I played every cover the J. Geils Band released. They had outstanding taste in covers...likely due to Peter Wolf being a collector and DJ.

This is the truth, Cold Blood played my Senior Ball.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59pm
Little Danny:

  11:01pm
Carmichael:

Yep, 1975. I wandered out back on break and ended up getting high with the band.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02pm
Little Danny:

Man that is so awesome and so 1975. I'm assuming this was in the Bay Area?
  11:03pm
Carmichael:

Sacramento. We got lots of bay area bands back then, on “extra” gigs.
  11:05pm
Carmichael:

It helped that bands like Fanny and Spiral Staircase were from here.

chresti:

Grammys go for the highest wattage names they can get
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07pm
Little Danny:

C'mon Kris, you know the Grammys are a terrible joke, right? They certainly don't believe in proper respects
  11:07pm
Dean:

That's an amazing war story, Carmichael. Best I can do is The Gears playing my high school a few years after I was out and The Dogs playing my wife's high school a few years before she started.
Avatar 11:07pm
Kris Holmes:

oh I know, I'm just wishing for an alternate truth
  11:09pm
Carmichael:

There are so many good northern soul versions of Since I Lost My Baby.
  11:12pm
Dean:

Smith is the band whose take on "The Weight" appeared on the Easy Rider soundtrack when The Band declined to license it.
  11:15pm
Carmichael:

They had another hugely successful pop song? Baby Its You? Is that remotely close to true?
  11:17pm
chresti:

Right
Avatar 11:17pm
Kris Holmes:

yeah, Baby It's You is pretty killer, I played it on the show before. The whole LP is actually pretty excellent
  11:18pm
Carmichael:

Jeez thanks. Brain test ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21pm
Franco Twinkie:

My dad use to cut Alan Parkers (guitar/Smith) hair when he was a kid. He had an autographed copy of Minus-Plus that said: "Hey Joe, remember when you used to shave my head like an egg?"

chresti:

I’ve got to file my tax return soon
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24pm

Avatar 11:38pm
Kris Holmes:

that's the goal
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40pm
Franco Twinkie:

One more, and then I'll shut up: The year before I started high school, The Flying Burrito Brothers played in our gym. Booking them was an act of penance by the guidance counselor who passed on The Buffalo Springfield a few years earlier because he though they weren't very good. We never let him live it down.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44pm
Little Danny:

Good lord. What year we talking about, Franco?
Avatar 11:44pm
Kris Holmes:

lol at Buffalo Springfield not very good
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45pm

Avatar 11:47pm
Kris Holmes:

good night dan
  11:48pm
Dean:

No comparison by a l-o-n-g stretch, but my high school mounted a production of Ibsen's Peer Gynt when I was a freshman. I got a walk-on role. The director ingeniously decided to hire the local power trio to perform music backstage to accompany the show. The music was rock arrangements of Grieg's Peer Gynt Suite! I spent every rehearsal, every show backstage with those guys.
Avatar 11:49pm
Kris Holmes:

that's pretty awesome
  11:54pm
chresti:

Great show Kris, thanks!
  11:56pm
chresti:

I can’t remember who played at my school-they had jugs and maybe straw hats.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56pm
Franco Twinkie:

Always a treat! Thanks Kris.
  11:58pm
chresti:

...maybe a washboard
Avatar 11:58pm
