I always find it hard to believe that somebody with your taste and feel for music can't play any instrument, Georgy!
  1:51pm
Martinibomb:

I was driving along the Oregon Coast through this small town and there was this big sign that said "Jew's Harp Festival" so of course I had to stop.

I love putting some butter with habanero in a pan and cooking a bannana in them and eating with icecream

DJ GeorgyGirl:

So, if Burg is village? Does Turken mean something? Like Village of ??
  2:21pm
Martinibomb:

@Jan have you ever met up with any of them?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I'm really hungry now!!!

"Organic Harvest Chipotle Habenero Pepper Sauce" is available on Amazon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21pm

Turk probably meant Torch in medieval Holland

Rich in Washington:

My dad's side of the family is sketchy. It's traced to his grandfather who jumped ship in San Francisco from Glasgow. The trail goes cold there. We think he was an orphan who became a merchant seaman. My sister tried tracking down records while in Scotland but there were no records of him.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22pm
Jan Turkenburg:

@ Martini yes, I even dated one ;)
  2:23pm
Martinibomb:

@Jan u devil u
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Burg could mean fortress, castle or big defendable place in most languages
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:24pm
Jan Turkenburg:

It was last year. We're still good friends. She sometimes comes to visit me in Zwolle
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm
Jan Turkenburg:

And the other one is Wouter Turkenburg, who is a wellknown name in Music Academy land... We've met once last year and we got along very well. He is the father of the other songwriting Jan

I was never a huge habanero freak but after this sauce. Dang. I literally think of things I can cook just to go with it.
  2:30pm
Martinibomb:

You just need a little Habanero it goes a long way. It's a good flavor
  2:33pm
Martinibomb:

I might have to cover that Naughty Boy song
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33pm

I was part of 2nd wave mod in Los Angeles. Had the scooter and the whole bit.

I wish we could all hang out in the meat space. that'd be so freaking cool. Video call soon?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm
Rich in Washington:

I was maybe a latecomer to internet radio. I didn't have high speed internet at my (rural area) house until 2004, 2005 or so, so listened to most of it at work.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:44pm

I would love to do a video call soon!

YES! Meeting!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:44pm

@Rich - Great comparison, Sheena reminds me as well of Weirdsville. Thankfully now we have audio quality, I don't miss realaudio/media one bit.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Same really - I started mostly chatting and file sharing and then slowly got more into internet radio. Around the 97/98/99 mark.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Has that been done by you yet?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm
Rich in Washington:

Yeah! I would also record a bunch of Weirdsville on cassette and listen to it in my car. SIlly eh? I recently found one of the tapes and listened to it for shits n' giggles and I can't believe I would listen to that.
Avatar 2:46pm
spacebrother:

Yes, Georgy, but in L.A. we put the flags representing our heritage on the backs of the parkas. My scooter had eight mirrors on the front and three fog lights.

I lived in a rural podunk, so Mod never quite made its way up here. I was way into punk in high school but no one knew what the fuck I was because I didn't dress like a TV version of a punk rocker.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49pm
Jan Turkenburg:

A little bit of Haendel carefully squeezed in in the intro there
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50pm
Rich in Washington:

I still have the motorcycle jacket I had as a teenager. It's quite worn.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I was a one of about five hippies in a sea of punks at my old school in the 70s. Luckily they mostly liked me/thought |I was harmless or I wouldn't have a face.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50pm
Jan Turkenburg:

I'm afraid I looked quite boring compared to your stories :-(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:51pm

@Rich I didn't even know who the Velvet Underground was until I moved to Portland. Redneck kid
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm
Rich in Washington:

Looking back, I realized that a lot of my 'look' was mitigated by not getting jumped by rednecks in pickup trucks, but after I started going to shows nearly every weekend and playing in my pathetic teenage garage band, I no longer cared.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm

I was fortunate that I had KBOO's late night weirdo DJs to edumacate me.
