..lived in Tucson '70-into-'71 as a young longhair. Was warned to stay away from Speedway (like above) by other longhairs: you'd get beaten, so they said.

Ever since one of my old chums posted on fb that she might be moving to Albuquerque I've been googling it, and today's photo reminds me of some of the old Rte 66 establishments still there. I have negative memories of southwestern sprawl from my youth but also some really good memories of visits to old motels like the ones that populated the Route. Would be fun to visit.

Dean, I just read Tosh Berman's memoir. He talks abut about going to visit Dennis Hopper at his compound in Taos. Apparently, all the dirt bag hippies that decended on New Mexico were loathed by the culturally conservative natives, especially Dennis.
