	12:20pm Rich in Washington: Typically, what happens with me, is I'm listening to WFMU streams via an iTunes playlist. If the stream hiccups, it can sometimes skip down to the next stream. It's nutty.

	12:30pm Mark R: I'm sensing a 1988/9 theme here. Trying to remember what I was listening to in them days. That "New York" album was one of them, for sure. "Doolittle" by the Pixies, which came out earlier, but I was still listening to it in the late 80s early 90s. I think a lot of good jazz albums came out around then, Tony Williams-type stuff. Larry Coryell. A lot of fusion-y type guys were returning to more straight-ahead jazz and I was digging it. Also, mainstream stuff like INXS believe it or not, I was digging. Oh yes, The The, my god did I love this album!

	12:36pm Mark R: Oh hello--if I'd just read the darn synopsis at the top of the playlist I would see that the theme I'm "sensing" has been totally spelled out by the disc jockey individual. I always talk first, read later!
	12:36pm rw: I don't remember '89. I was just out of grad school and going through major crisis. So far I've only recognized the Siouxsie and the Stone Roses tracks.
	12:38pm Mark R: Seriously, I think if I went through my CD collection, the year 1989 would be well-represented. I was just starting to work at grown-up jobs but did not yet have children draining away all my music money, so I was probably adding about 50 albums a year to my collection. "Let Love Rule" was another one. Lenny's later stuff put a lot of people off of him, but I still think "Let Love Rule" is top-notch, start to finish!
	12:38pm crateslinger: In 1989 I saw Bad Brains and the Cro Mags open for Motorhead at the Channel. Best show I ever saw. Everybody almost died.
	12:41pm Mary Wing: How the heck do you remember that it was in 1989, crateslinger? I can remember lots of concerts in the 80s, but not the exact year.
	12:42pm rw: Actually, not just out of school but finishing school and then back into the real world. Even worse! crateslinger, I'm jealous.
	12:43pm rw: And recently married! It's all coming back to me...
	12:43pm Rich in Washington: I've been remembering dates of shows only because I've been tracking down either bootlegs of certain show or flyers from specific shows. It's always surprising to recall the date because they're often much later than I remember.
	12:44pm crateslinger: @Mary - I turned 21 in 1989 and met my wife the following year.
	12:44pm crateslinger: and I moved around a lot so judging by who I was hanging out with and where I was living - I can pretty much know the year.
	12:45pm crateslinger: Now that I’ve been in NYC for 30 years, THAT is all jumbled together. I measure the year by how many kids I had.
	12:46pm crateslinger: Feels like that was the last show I went to!

	12:47pm rw: I'm terrible with remembering specific years. Sometime between the mid '90s and now I had at least two children.
	12:53pm Mark R: Mary, you're proving my long-held belief, that in spite of people's opinions that music of this era or that era was "lousy," it only reflects what they were hearing on mainstream radio, and that if you pick any year, I could name you 10 or 20 or 30 stone-cold killer records, and you're proving it right here!

	1:44pm Rich in Washington: In 1989, I found myself working on an assembly line in a sweatshop. The guy up the line from me was this obnoxious illiterate hillbilly dude who jibber jabbered constantly. When this song came out, he would use the phrase Funky Cold Medina for everything. I have no idea why. I think he thought it made him hipper, or something. The whole place was full of these goofuses who were freeze dried in the late 70s, with feathered hairdos, 70s looking clothes and everything.

	1:51pm Parq: I was still kind of paying attention to this stuff in '89. My kid was born in '90. Like all new parents, I lost all contact with pop culture for a couple of years, and somehow never got back around to mainstream music.
	1:51pm Rich in Washington: 1989 I had just married and became a father. My wife and I had vastly divergent musical tastes (in that I had some - snark!), so music and I had a weird relationship for years.

I was just starting to work at grown-up jobs but did not yet have children draining away all my music money, so I was probably adding about 50 albums a year to my collection. "Let Love Rule" was another one. Lenny's later stuff put a lot of people off of him, but I still think "Let Love Rule" is top-notch, start to finish!

The guy up the line from me was this obnoxious illiterate hillbilly dude who jibber jabbered constantly. When this song came out, he would use the phrase Funky Cold Medina for everything. I have no idea why. I think he thought it made him hipper, or something. The whole place was full of these goofuses who were freeze dried in the late 70s, with feathered hairdos, 70s looking clothes and everything.
