The door was open, I'll just sit on this tree stump and wait quietly...
Avatar 11:35am
Tony Coulter:

Hey, Chresti! I'm already here, setting up the chairs. Huge thanks for the repeat pledge!! Much appreciated.
Avatar 11:40am
Tony Coulter:

Many thanks also to these super-fine folks, who pledged to this show over the last few days:

Rob N.of Savannah, Georgia
Erella G of Toronto, Canada (feel better, Erella)

plus two of FMU's own: Jason Elbogen and Nick Name!

Thanks so much, all -- I'm super glad for the support.

Any little bit to help the psychedelic fork supply
Avatar 11:57am
Tony Coulter:

Speaking of forks, some animal has been stealing the plastic forks we use to dish out cat food, then leave near the sink. We've been finding the missing forks in our backyard. I'm guessing the attraction is that they still have traces of cat food on them.
Avatar 12:00pm
ÎČrian:

Boo from the isthmus. Bright blue skies today.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:00pm
chresti:

Switch to metal so they don't eat the fork. I sometimes use chopsticks
Avatar 12:01pm
Tony Coulter:

ÎČoo to you too, ÎČrian!

Cmurtha:

Howdy everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02pm

here for the In-Theme! yay! also, sounds like the cats are not guarding the sink very well.

Hey, hey, Cmurtha and Steveo!!

Hulloooo, Tony and tapeheads (clean, I hope), and all for thiss afternoon of cassette blhiss.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm
steveo:

I found Ed!

"Ed Video is Guelph's artist-run centre

OUR MISSION/MANDATE: As a charitable artist-run centre, our mission is to foster the creation, exhibition and appreciation of media arts."

www.edvideo.org...

Guelph is a town in Ontario.
Avatar 12:12pm
Tony Coulter:

Wow! Glad to see it's still in business. The name makes it sound like a video rental place. An "artist-run centre" certainly makes more sense.
Avatar 12:13pm
Tony Coulter:

Ahoy there, Chris and Sem!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm
steveo:

yes, i imagined rental place as well :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm

Hey there, Tony - some lovely minimal bliss here...
Avatar 12:17pm
Tony Coulter:

Hey, Tom! Just wait: it keeps getting better
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:17pm
Sem:

A university town is Guelph, often in the news here in the great white north for useful research benefitting farmers, farming, and such.
Avatar 12:19pm
Tony Coulter:

The track on now is also "live at Ed Video."
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:21pm
JtotheK:

Ahoy there Tony! Hi everyone. Tony, I really like the Lawrence Welk LP you have covered up today!
Avatar 12:22pm
Tony Coulter:

Ah, yes, almost forgot: Can anyone ID the mystery LP (well, actually 12") underneath today's cassettes? If you know the record it should be easy to spot.
Avatar 12:22pm

Lovely stuff, deserves to see more daylight

I got this tape from someone associated with CLEM (Contact List of Electronic Musicians): rateyourmusic.com...
Avatar 12:31pm
Tony Coulter:

The tape was in CLEM's "archives."
Avatar 12:36pm
Tony Coulter:

No guesses re today's mystery record? It's British, and from the '80s. The group is an offshoot of a better-known band that generated a lot of Heat.

tones i mean
Avatar 12:38pm

Hey, Matt! Nope -- but you're getting close!

No more guesses? I'll give it three more minutes. Remember: guess it correctly, and you win an all-expenses-paid trip to Flumdiddle!

Enjoying this very much, TC.

Ike:

The Belching Trees of Weaselville?
  12:47pm
Ike:

I totally made that up. But watch, a band with that name will now pop into existence.
Avatar 12:49pm
Tony Coulter:

Sorry, Ike, you're so close, but that's not it. Today's mystery record is by This Heat offshoot The Camberwell Now. It's called "Greenfingers," and here it is: www.discogs.com...
Avatar 12:50pm
Tony Coulter:

(Heya, Ike!)
Avatar 12:50pm
Tony Coulter:

@ Sem: Glad to hear it!
Avatar 12:58pm
Tony Coulter:

As you can hear, this tape gets into Frith-esque free improv territory at times -- which I forgot to mention in my "intro."
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:10pm
chresti:

I just got another jury summons in the mail
Avatar 1:11pm
Tony Coulter:

Are you going to try to wiggle-woggle out of it?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:12pm
chresti:

Yeah-my excuse is that I just served last month
Avatar 1:13pm
Tony Coulter:

Sounds like a good excuse to me!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:14pm
chresti:

We were told we don't have to serve for 5 years
Avatar 1:19pm
Tony Coulter:

The track on now is on my marathon premium
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm
steveo:

i recently got a jury summons from the us district court, and they only allow excusal for service in other courts within 2 years (which fortunately I had because it butted up against my vacation plans)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm
Webhamster Henry:

This tape is tasty, Tony!
Avatar 1:27pm
Tony Coulter:

Hey, Henry! I agree. Especially with mayonnaise
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm
chris:

really enjoying this tape, too. also, i have jury duty in two weeks (rescheduled, luckily, since i was foul ill earlier this month). what's with all the jury duty? don't they know only free-thinkers and outliers listen to wfmu?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm
Webhamster Henry:

I've got lacto-fermented carrot-slaw here, it goes well with it!
Listeners! What do YOU eat to Tape Hiss?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm
Webhamster Henry:

I'm well on the record for being pro Jury Service (rebranded from 'Duty').
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm
steveo:

i fought the slaw, and the slaw won
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm
chris:

i actually don't mind serving. i'm lucky enough to still get paid. but since i work from home, actually getting up early, showered, dressed and leaving the puppers all alone is kind of a bummer. we should all be so lucky to have such minimal discomforts, really.

The Guelph Audio Vision Ensemble WAS AMAZING! hEY, tONY!
Avatar 1:36pm
Tony Coulter:

Hey, Nick! Yeah, I'm very glad to have found it!
Avatar 1:40pm
Tony Coulter:

As you just heard, the tracks are announced on this tape -- which makes things nice and easy for me, accuplaylist-wise.
Avatar 1:43pm
Tony Coulter:

This "Antologia Polipoetica" tape comes with a large, fat booklet -- practically a book -- hence the deluxe oversize case.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:44pm
Cmurtha:

Man, everyone who is not hearing this is missing out, especially since it won't be in the archive. This has been an interesting ride thus far.
Avatar 1:47pm
Tony Coulter:

Yeah, wish I could archive these shows. Glad you're enjoying the one-time-only ride....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm
Webhamster Henry:

I wish I could tape the shows!
Avatar 1:51pm
Tony Coulter:

I do secretly archive these shows, for my own porpoises. Maybe I can transfer them all to cassette.
Avatar 1:53pm
Tony Coulter:

By "archive," I mean I keep recordings of the shows for possible future "fill-in" use. They're not archived anywhere online.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:53pm
Yvang:

Maybe in the future, all the Internet will be transferred to cassette...
Avatar 1:55pm
Tony Coulter:

Ha!

Somewhere I have a cassette with audible computer code on it. It's beyond my comprehension. I'm sure Webhamster Henry would understand.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:57pm
Yvang:

Magnetic tape seems to keep being a reliable format, I've heard the CERN in Switzerland is archiving its data on reel-to-reel like in the IBM old days.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:59pm
Cmurtha:

I wonder if you put all the internet on cassets does it summon the dreaded "Frankenstein Radio-Computer God"?
Avatar 2:02pm
Tony Coulter:

That and pictures of cute cats.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 2:04pm

we call farfalle bowties but i think it means butterflies
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 2:06pm

Why do I feel like an audio representation of old cat memes would scare me more than delight.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 2:06pm

Farfalle is also pasta
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 2:06pm

I need a party piece like this, bring a whole new frisson to my social life.

Avatar 2:21pm

Yes, it's quite amazing. I actually have a bunch of sound poetry tapes that for some reason I haven't been playing on Tapes Hiss. I'll get to 'em sooner or later!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 2:21pm
Cmurtha:

I wish I knew what emotion this poem was supposed to illicit. I can't tell and now that there's two of them I really can't follow. I should bug the Sardenian guy here and ask them what is being said .
Avatar 2:22pm

Alessandro from Italy:

Thanks for this italian_audio_experimental_project. That reminds me: "AUDIOBOX spazio multicodice di Pinotto Fava", a reckless half-hour radio program on the first national public channel here in Italy. In the 80s on medium waves every day at 7:25pm. Brave Italians in the no-web era !!

I think I've heard a different version of this Doremi done before (Japanese artist in the late 90s/early 00s?)
