Morning everyone! @Bronwyn I was exploring wfmu last night, and in addition to finding a great show about awful things, I see you played Get Down Goblin, I was beyond thrilled to see that.

I don't wanna lose you tonight is unironically a banger.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12am
Cmurtha:

(The other show is something on gtdr, just plays terrible records, was a fun trip)
Avatar 3:13am
BronwynB:

hey cmurtha! i love terrible records so that show sounds great! i love both get down goblin and i don't wanna lose you tonight but my fav jan terri jam has got to be fax my love
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19am
Cmurtha:

I don't think I've heard that one, and I will be sure to give it a listen!
If you like bad records I recommend it, was fun in bursts, but the DJ certainly is doing his job, I don't know how someone could get through the whole hour. He does have a segment about actors singing, but the only one of those I heard was honestly pretty good (he played the opening to whatever happened to baby Jane) where Betty Davis' shaky voice really worked imo

Honestly, I can't even tell that they're Scottish
Avatar 3:34am
Scraps:

Mozart’s people should have sued over Amadeus!

Just kidding — can’t stand Mozart, though.
Avatar 3:35am
Scraps:

The EP’s sound pretty innaresting.
Avatar 3:38am
BronwynB:

@cmurtha: i love bad records and it sounds like this DJ plays legit bad ones which is right up my alley haha
Avatar 3:38am
BronwynB:

@diciassette: hahaha :D
Avatar 3:41am
BronwynB:

@scraps: i must say i feel similarly about mozart's instrumental music which on the whole is pretty boring, love his operas though!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45am
diciassette:

I think I'm going to give my clicky-star to Thulia for this one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47am
diciassette:

Oh, ThuLLa! Gosh I'm not wearing my monocle.
Avatar 3:52am
Scraps:

I have 28 teeth, but my roommate has none, so we have... less teeth than you might expect.
Avatar 3:56am
BronwynB:

@diciassette: i hope you really wear a monocle
Avatar 3:57am
BronwynB:

@scraps: i wonder if there are any houses with more teeth than you might expect? are there any people with more than 32 teeth? hmmm
Avatar 3:58am
Scraps:

Wow, Roomful of Teeth won the Pulitzer for this album.
Avatar 4:01am
BronwynB:

wow, for their debut! that is so cool
Avatar 4:02am
Scraps:

Never heard of this Pulitzer. First I’ve heard of this band. Kinda weird (if you live in my head) (which I mostly do).
Avatar 4:08am
Scraps:

This is def. influenced by George Clinton

Good morning listening fellers. This set is super interesting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17am

I just didn't want to see you locked in Ken's dungeon of Djs that didn't meet their goal. 4th floor?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19am

I just watched "Sex and Broadcasting" and have a newfound appreciation for the benevolent dictator!
Avatar 4:19am
BronwynB:

thanks diciassette!!
Avatar 4:19am
BronwynB:

@jkeigh: it's actually on the little-known 5th floor
Avatar 4:21am
BronwynB:

@diciassette: 19-year-old me is visible in that movie for like 2 seconds! i remember them filming us eating lunch which was kind of nerve wracking
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21am
diciassette:

Oh boy that would be!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24am
Cmurtha:

I have yet to see that, I want to when I get back to the states.
Avatar 4:25am

Like Tonal Expressions. Very Debussy like.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26am
diciassette:

YES. Debussy <-- not boring, Amadeus
Avatar 4:27am
BronwynB:

<3 debussy (and anything that sounds like him)
Avatar 4:29am
Scraps:

I like Audience when nobody’s singing, like now.
Avatar 4:40am
Scraps:

=Method to the Madness=‘s cover is also very influenced by George Clinton (say, Parliament’s =Mothership Connection=)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45am
diciassette:

As far as I can tell raviole is the French version of raviolo (the singular of ravioli, or ravioles en français)
Avatar 4:46am
BronwynB:

@scraps: true!! i love how much people loved spaceships back then. spaceship chic should come back
Avatar 4:47am
BronwynB:

@diciassette: thank you for that info! i did not know there was a singular of ravioli and next time i have ravioli i am def going to say "that was a good raviolo" about one of them in particular
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49am
diciassette:

Or go to the deli and ask for a raviolo!
Avatar 4:50am
BronwynB:

yes!! and if they try to give me more than one i will say no, i said one raviolo please
Avatar 4:54am
Scraps:

Thank you for the Pulitzer correction. One of RateYourMusic’s listmakers had it as the whole album, which I picked up. I would have gone forward with that misinformation. Cheers.
Avatar 4:56am
BronwynB:

oh no problem! :)

Värttinä is great! I didn’t know they were in the Lord of the Rings musical!

Really, Värttinä is just awesome!
Avatar 5:16am
B/wad:

Good morning Bronwyn & Co, from Tel Aviv :)
I love that Tom Lehrer album! When I was 12 someone had it at summer camp, and we listened to it on repeat (although we didn't get the jokes)
Avatar 5:17am
Scraps:

Must have 100+ Värttinä songs in my mp3 player....
Avatar 5:26am
BronwynB:

hey fred and b/wad :D
Avatar 5:27am
BronwynB:

@scraps: i hadn't heard of them before this but your enthusiasm definitely makes me want to check them out :D
Avatar 5:32am
B/wad:

Wow, Bronwyn.
You're really plucking at my heartstrings this morning.
When I was about 9 or 10, my grandparents took me into the city (from Jersey of course) to see my first Broadway play, and it was The Man of La Mancha with Raul Julia.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32am
diciassette:

Ay, chucking Värttinä into the queue. v. excited about Kenton's West Side Story. My barber gave me a stack of records the last time I reported to the agency and two of them are Stan Kenton but I haven't got to them yet because I'm still stuck on the Ben Bagley Cole Porter revues and Milva singing Brecht in Italian.
Avatar 5:37am
BronwynB:

@b/wad: oh wow that's so cool!!! jealous!! im glad the tunes are bringing back memories :)
Avatar 5:37am
BronwynB:

@diciassette: those sounds great, your barber is the coolest!
Avatar 5:48am
Scraps:

For those interested in checking out Värttinä, try somewhat early trio: =Seleniko= (1992), =Aitara= (1994), =Kokko= (1996). Or 2001 live =6.12.=
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58am
jkeigh:

Thanks for a fun show Bronwyn. Have a wonderful day (no pun intended...okay I lied)
Avatar 5:59am

Woo! Thanks Bronwyn.
