Hi Jan & Rich how's it going today? Either of you believe in ESP?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I just made a DJ dash to the loo but I'm back now :-)

You had me at psychedelic alien plants :-)

Martinibomb:

maybe I'll share some later on the FB group more fan art hah
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm

You don't need a serious answer to the ESP-question, do you? ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Yes, please!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm
Jan Turkenburg:

I didn't have the best of days today. I'm glad I have my SJR-friends!

Eli Neman:

That is not a mashup of Venus by Bananarama, that is a cover.
  4:09pm
Martinibomb:

Oh thanks Eli! I've been racking my brain trying to figure it out. Who covered it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm
joe:

It was originally done by Shocking Blue
Avatar 4:10pm
Mr Fab:

Hey all! Don't 'know who did that version, but pretty funny how they thru in every production gimmick in the book
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm
Jan Turkenburg:

ehm... yes... but Shocking Blue stole it, so it became clear later ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Wait - the Shocking Blue isn't the original??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Loving the synths by the way
  4:12pm
Martinibomb:

I put that version on a mix I made years ago and I couldn't find the playlist.. it's either 80s or 2000s. wish I could remember who did it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm
joe:

Oh Scandalous. Who did they steal it from?
  4:13pm
Eli Neman:

Yes, Shocking Blue did the original
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Here we go again. Venus is taken from "The Banjo Song" (I came from Alabama..) in the version of The Big3
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

That legitimately just blew my mind. I'll have to look for that
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Biggest scandal in Duth Pop History...
  4:14pm
Eli Neman:

That cover sounds like it came from the 1970's to me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm
joe:

@martinibomb do you know where dialog about ESP at Duke originates from?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Also, you just followed Raoul Duke with Duke University - SPOOKY! ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Talk about ESP. lol.
  4:16pm
Martinibomb:

@Joe can't remember It's all from audio I culled from various sources a long time ago and I'm terrible at writing down the specifics
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm
joe:

whosampled.com has a hell of list folks that covered it. Maybe it will jog your memory. www.whosampled.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm
joe:

@martinibomb Got it. I actually do radio on Dukes station and would love to get my hands on it to play.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm
joe:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I'm singing "Fade to Grey" over the top of this ;-)
  4:20pm
Martinibomb:

@GG yeah it's got this fade to grey thing.. not sure what this is? I had it premixed from years ago with the audio samples behind it lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

It's fantastic :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

There's nothing quite like a flatulent synth ;-)
  4:22pm
Martinibomb:

Lol! GG hahah
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm
Rich in Washington:

I've been watching bits of UFO again. It's such a weird show.
  4:23pm
Martinibomb:

Some of these synth demos you find on youtube like people demo'ing someting for an ebay post actually sound pretty cool so these were collected from that idea.. tho I should have writeen things down better hah oh well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

UFO is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo bleak. Not quite Blake's Seven bleak but close
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm
Jan Turkenburg:

@Eli Neman, "here we go again" was not meant as a response to you ;)
  4:25pm
Martinibomb:

I love UFO but I've never made it thru the entire series.. where as Blakes 7 I've easily gone thru a couple times. UFO looks awesome but its kinda boring or something???
  4:27pm
Eli Neman:

https://secondhandsongs.com/performance/8230/versions This website could work as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm
Jan Turkenburg:

It's just that I told the story a lot of times (I think here as well ;) ) I'm just perplexed that Robbie van Leeuwen earned a fortune (still does) and lets other members of the band pay royalties for performing the song, while it iss obviously plagiarism.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm
Rich in Washington:

It's really weird. It takes itself so damn seriously, yet is pretty goofy. I've made it most of the way through, but honestly, so much of it is ultimately forgettable.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

That's outrageous. Particularly when you consider that Men At Work lost their plagiarism case by the Australian government because "Down Under" bears a fleeting resemblance to Kookaburra!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Sorry Waltzing Mathilda.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm
joe:

I guess he prefers to go Dutch. Oh god I'm sorry
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@joe - LOL!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Blinding theme song nevertheless :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm
Jan Turkenburg:

LOL!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Where does "going Dutch" originate?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm
joe:

Well Wiki says (and we know that's alwsys right) One suggestion is that the phrase "going Dutch" originates from the concept of a Dutch door, with an upper and lower half that can be opened independently.

The Oxford English Dictionary connects "go Dutch" and "Dutch treat" to other phrases which have "an opprobrious or derisive application, largely due to the rivalry and enmity between the English and Dutch in the 17th century", the period of the Anglo-Dutch Wars. Another example is "Dutch courage".[1]

The gambling term "dutching" may be related to "go Dutch", as it describes a system that shares stakes across a number of bets. Another possible origin is double Dutch, the jump-rope variation in which partners simultaneously participate. A folk etymology is that the "Dutch" reference derives from Dutch Schultz,[citation needed] a New York gangster of the late 1920s to mid-1930s, who may have used dutching to profit from gambling on horseracing, though his nickname derives from Deutsch ('German'), in reference to his German-Jewish background.
  4:33pm
Martinibomb:

I'm sure it's something derogatory that the British came up with when they were rivals with the Dutch.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34pm
Jan Turkenburg:

well, I think we're just parsimonious ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm
Jan Turkenburg:

I got that word from google translate, so it must be true
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

The British? Derogatory about other nations? Surely not. LOL!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm
Jan Turkenburg:

"I blow my nose at you!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm
joe:

I'm going to dispute the Double Dutch suggestion as I would be very shocked to learn that phrase did not come before the activity
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm
joe:

Wow not I feel bad. Sorry Jan. Jeez think your just throwing out harmless cliches and BAM!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Your mother smells of elderberries!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Oh no, Joe, I'm not offended by dutchable jokes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm
Rich in Washington:

now you got me thinking about the last words of Dutch Schultz.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm
Rich in Washington:

I love these collage/synth things, MB!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I'm freaking loving this. :-)

joe:

Wow a drum machine that gives me quesadilla. Sign me up. Beats and cheese. Isn't that what it's all about Beats and Cheese
  4:44pm
Martinibomb:

I probably played it way too long and lost 10 listeners haha
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm
joe:

Still here
  4:46pm
Martinibomb:

@Joe thanks for listening to a vintage drum machine demo with me this long hahah
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm
Rich in Washington:

Waiting For A Train. I love that song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48pm
joe:

@Martinibomb truly the pleasure is all mine

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48pm
joe:

Although I do now have to bail for totally unrelated reasons. Great show Martinibomb
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm
Rich in Washington:

I've been meaning to. There are at least two great songs that kinda dovetail with that song that I just haven't gotten around to doing it yet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

The last track on this month's LoriHajiTura is dedicated to Martinibomb because it's the Theme from the Aeronauts :-)
  4:50pm
Martinibomb:

@Joe Hey! Thanks that means a lot
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

"Waiting for a Train" plus "Driver's Seat". Happy Georgy :-)
  4:51pm
Martinibomb:

oh You had to play that one! Cause it's the best. you can't not play it! haha
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm
Rich in Washington:

Ugh. DJ ManRich. Someone bestowed that monicker on me many years ago and it's still stuck to my shoe like a trail of toilet paper. And my SoundCloud. It was this DJ who would call me Rich Man, then ManRich (after Man Ray).
  4:53pm
Martinibomb:

@Rich should I just credit you and R in Wash?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm
Rich in Washington:

This was a remix of Negativland's A Big 10-8 Place pt. 2. I can't remember why I made it. I think a Negativland marathon on KBOO or something.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54pm
Rich in Washington:

No. It's fine. I just always forget that things I post to SoundCloud are under that name. I don't honestly mind either way. That's for playing it!

  5:06pm
Martinibomb:

@Fab I made 3 edits to todays show. I think this is the first one. I think you must grab these right away? I updated it yesterday.. drive file. I think this part I cut up more with a few more songs cause Rich's thing was kinda long

Weird Al and Wendy Carlos - what a combo! But hey, Eno and Viv Stanshall worked together on a "Peter and the Wolf" album. Clearly, it's a piece that brings everyone together.
