@Nulsh Stan cannot hear you. He is hovering in the Lotus Position 4 feet above his chair, his eyelids fluttering above glassy white orbs. He is in the Netherplace.

This is certainly a soundtrack for submission to the Black Hole.

Generally the live playlist is an absolute Godsend, but I kind of like the fact that Stan stands apart. He’s an, ahem, mature gentleman, and he does things the old school way - more power to his elbow.

It’s a convenience to me as I take screenshots of the songs so I can go research them when I’m off work. I drive overnight taxi .

Ignatius, yeah, I know it can be a little infuriating when you really want the background of something amazing you’ve just heard. But we must accept The Way of Stan (the title of my new Buddhist-lite self help book...)

@Nulsh I was thinking the same thing. I see him from time to time, he lives near me. He looked pretty bad for the last 5 years, but when I saw him a few months ago, he looked much better. He used to be accompanied by carers, had a very stiff gait, but looks much improved, thankfully.

Vincent. I am a huge fan. Dug into my pocket when he was struggling financially a few years back. Great to hear he is better though. I see deluxe re-releases recently. That first thing he did with Martin Hannett is a personal favourite of mine.
Avatar 5:19am
VincentNifigance:

@Nulsh Is that 'Return of the Durutti Column'? I have had that on rotation recently because I'm willing Summer into action and 'Sketch For Summer' is as good an aural depiction of the season as anything else committed to tape. I saw him live in the Basement of a café in town in 2005, there was only about 10 people there and just him sat on the floor noodling. It was pretty special.
Avatar 5:21am
ben abs:

@ignatatus666- I do the screenshot thing too. Is a great aid in keeping track of so much of the music that passes through my skull! Saying that, I have accepted the way of the Stan and am at peace with it
Avatar 5:22am
ben abs:

The Durutti Column is something I really need to spend more time with.
Avatar 5:23am
VincentNifigance:

@BenAbs That 'Return of...' record is a great place to start, he was decades ahead of his time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23am
Sem:

Good morning, David--got sidetracked getting coffee. All good where you are?
Avatar 5:29am
Nulsh:

Vincent. Yeah, that's the one. Story I heard was that Vini sat in the studio and played while he watched Hannettt fannying around with cables and tech stuff. And he left a bit pissed off as he felt Hannett was clueless.
Then he was presented with the mixes Hannett had produced using the recordings. Effectively the finished album.

Secret Hat of the Stan People: yours for a pledge of only $75! But wait, there's more....
Avatar 5:40am
ben abs:

Cheers Mr Nifigance, will check it out
Avatar 5:44am
VincentNifigance:

@Nulsh Ha! that sounds about right. From what I heard Hannett was exceptionally passionate and excited about that record and new direction, even as far as the sandpaper cover design.
Avatar 5:49am
Nulsh:

Vincent it still sounds great!
I really liked that Acid Mothers Temple track Stan played - couldn't see any reference to using a Vini Reilly sample anywhere online though.
Avatar 5:51am
ben abs:

The cover of that album is a take on the Guy Debord / Asger Jorn book 'Memoires' - It planes shavings off the neighbour's desert goat
Avatar 5:53am
VincentNifigance:

@BenAbs I love that description! Have to check that out, only have 'Society of the Spectacle'.
Avatar 5:55am

One of my oldest muso buddies still can't listen to Durutti Column and never understood my fascination.
She says: "it makes her feel queezy"
