Listener comments!

  9:03pm Chris Farrell:

Long week of horse-less studying.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:04pm Sam Segal:

Great to have you back Maestro Farrell!
  9:05pm chresti:

Avatar 9:06pm northguineahills:

what if your horse loses you (outside of wfmu, I have no idea where I am or how my horse can find me).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:08pm Sam Segal:

NGH: I've been there too many times. Usually, if you stay put, you'll forget you were lost in the first place.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09pm Sam Segal:

OMC (Oh My Chresti)!
Avatar 9:11pm TDK60:

Hello deh. Cool tune.
Avatar 9:15pm northguineahills:

I'm still paying NYS taxes as my wife lives there. (FL has no income tax)
Avatar 9:15pm TDK60:

'Back in NYC'- maybe one o' the stronger cuts on that double LP?
Avatar 9:16pm northguineahills:

(life of the long murderer as in the song title) (my Latin sucks).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17pm Jeff Golick:

Or: life is a long death?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17pm fleep:

e-filed greetings
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18pm Sam Segal:

Jeff and NGH, had no idea the two of you were Latin scholars. Took four semesters. All of it immediately leaked out of my head.
Avatar 9:19pm TDK60:

.huh, unreleased Marvin?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:19pm Sam Segal:

TDK, fleep! This is really happening.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:20pm Jeff Golick:

I am almost certainly incorrect.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21pm Jeff Golick:

Google translate has "ligno" as "tree?"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21pm Sam Segal:

I think most of the tracks on that Marvin release had been released on various CD compilations and reissues over the years, but never as a cohesive album.
Avatar 9:24pm TDK60:

an online translation: "Life on the tree dies"
Avatar 9:25pm northguineahills:

The problem w/ Latin, there is ancient Latin, classical Latin, and liturgical Latin (2 millennia of lingual evolution).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28pm Jeff Golick:

or maybe: the tree of life will die
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29pm Sam Segal:

No matter how you slice it, the title's bleak!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30pm fleep:

What a bastarda
Avatar 9:45pm TDK60:

today's the day Sartre died, in 1980.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46pm Sam Segal:

Man, Sartre lived longer than I thought he did. Good for him.
Avatar 9:51pm TDK60:

possibly, he didn't renounce himself.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54pm Sam Segal:

Got a favorite Sartre work, TDK?
Avatar 9:57pm TDK60:

'Nausea,' some short stories, political articles; his loftier philosophy above my head.
Avatar 9:57pm northguineahills:

Sartre was once on the Tonight Show w/ Johnny Carson (my HS Philosophy teacher showed us the interview).
  9:59pm chresti:

Is this a horse song?
Avatar 9:59pm northguineahills:

I'm more of a Deleize/Guattari guy myself....
Avatar 9:59pm northguineahills:

Avatar 10:01pm TDK60:

I'm not a Sartre guy, or those others, tho I am lefty.
  10:01pm Listening Out There:

Enjoying the audio stuffs......
  10:02pm chresti:

This day in 1980 is the day we flew to Nice for the first time
Avatar 10:03pm TDK60:

Coe wrote some good songs. Yet, I know a musician who opened for him once; she said she'd never do so again due to his racist stage banter.
Avatar 10:04pm northguineahills:

This time during 1980, I rode my big wheel two miles to the middle school and freaked out my parents when I finally rode back after a few hours (I just turned 4).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05pm coelacanth∅:

hey Sam & equestrian sympathizers
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05pm Doug Schulkind:

I'm a big fan of Cocaine & Rhinestones, the podcast by Tyler Mahan Coe (son of David Allen Coe). But never on Monday nights.
Avatar 10:06pm TDK60:

..it was right around now in '80 I started playing in bands.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08pm coelacanth∅:

ngh that's wild!
  10:09pm Chris Farrell:

Any of you fans of new outlaw like Brent Cobb (nephew of Dave Cobb) or Sturgill Simpson, shooter Jennings, Jason Isbell? I like Brent Cobb’s album Shine on a Rainy Day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10pm Sam Segal:

Doug! I've been meaning to check that podcast out. I've heard good things. Figured it would pair well with my growing appetite for country music.
@TDK: Disappointed to hear that about DAC...guess I am not totally shocked.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11pm Sam Segal:

Hello, @Coel! I am a Coel sympathizer, I'll admit it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11pm Sam Segal:

Thanks for listening out there, Out There!
Avatar 10:11pm northguineahills:

(I know it was April in VA Beach, and I kept on exploring further and further afield and wanted to watch the older kids).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12pm Sam Segal:

@NGH: I find Deleize/Guattari utterly impenetrable. Any advice on where to start?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12pm Doug Schulkind:

It deserves its lofty reputation. Really smart and chock full of a sort of underground history.
Avatar 10:16pm TDK60:

well, gotta leave the music den, night all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18pm Sam Segal:

Thanks for hanging, TDK!
Avatar 10:20pm northguineahills:

@Sam: Uh.... Don't start w/ "What is Philospophy?". That book kicked my ass to the curb, and gave me migraines, and took me over 3 months to get through and mostly figure out all 200+ pp. Start anywhere but there....(it's considered they're most obtuse book, and it's translated from French, which adds another layer of complexity).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20pm Sam Segal:

@Chris: I really like Jason Isbell. I've listened to a bit of Sturgill and enjoyed him as well.
  10:22pm Dean:

I enjoy dipping into Anti-Oedipus and A Thousand Plateaus, not because I "get" them, but because they are more or less impenetrable (by me). Nevertheless, I get a thrill out of observing thinkers/writers crafting their discourse, their text, to achieve some vague goal.
Avatar 10:25pm northguineahills:

@Dean: I'm not an expert, but if it wasn't for the internet to crosscheck every damn reference, I wouldn't had stood a chance, it was almost torture, but I'm glad I made it through it...
  10:27pm Dean:

I mean, same goes for Wallace Stevens. At some point, it doesn't matter that I'm not following a narrative or thematic thread. The words on the page are marvelous. (Same goes for Derrida's "White Mythology," which I'll say is beautiful, even if it's replete with philosophical baloney.)
Avatar 10:28pm northguineahills:

@Dean: *crap, adds another author to my queue*

oh, and I agree....
Avatar 10:30pm northguineahills:

Ghostride the Drift (safer then ghostriding the whip), new to me and digdug...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31pm Sam Segal:

Debut 12" from Ghostride the Drift. It's a collab between Huerco S, Uon, and Exael.
  10:53pm chresti:

Love this!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54pm Sam Segal:

@Chresti: Grandmaster Massese or Black Eagle Child? Either way, I agree!
  10:57pm Dean:

Speaking of Deleuze and Guattari, Notre Dame has been burning. This upsets me.
Avatar 10:58pm still b/p:

Quite affected and distressed today by la cathédrale en feu.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01pm Sam Segal:

It is horrific. Didn't have the words to address it on mic.
  11:01pm Dean:

Yes, even though Cathédrale en Feu was the name of my first band in high school, the actual circumstance is disturbing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07pm Sam Segal:

How'd you land on that name, Dean?
  11:07pm Jeff g. out w dog:

Thanks for playing this Goran, Sam. Have wanted to hear it.
  11:09pm chresti:

Quelle grande dommage
  11:09pm Dean:

Doug S. recommended it to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10pm Sam Segal:

The whole record is really excellent, Jeff. Definitely recommend further listening.
  11:14pm chresti:

Fire is under control now
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14pm doctorjazz:

Hi! Here for some horseplay.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14pm doctorjazz:

Liked the Goran.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15pm Sam Segal:

Doctor Jazz, your timing is brilliant!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16pm doctorjazz:

That doesn't get said to me all that often, cool!
  11:19pm Dean:

I've been frequenting a coffee shop blocks from my place on weekends. The proprietor tends to play a wide variety of musics (noise, opera, pop, punk, etc.), so we got to talking. Hamid Drake has been in town for an event in San Francisco. The proprietor asked him to appear at his shop, but evidently Bill Laswell wouldn't permit it, due to contract issues. Drake suggested he would appear there when he's shortly next in town. I can't wait.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20pm doctorjazz:

Rare Noise is a cool label.
  11:21pm Dean:

And my neighbor across the street went to school with Elliot Sharp, who is due in June to play a house in town. In other words, I'm living at ground zero.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23pm doctorjazz:

Hard to imagine these musician being limited in appearances by contract. Seems the more exposure, the better for all involved.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24pm doctorjazz:

You're right about this set,Sam, up my alley!
  11:27pm Dean:

Evidently Laswell is a bit proprietary. I don't have much trouble accepting that, but I don't know for sure, of course.
  11:29pm Chris Farrell:

That last set blew my mind. My horse will thank you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31pm Sam Segal:

Thanks, Chris! Let's hope we can land the horse safely in this final set.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31pm doctorjazz:

Jealous about all that interesting stuff around your way, Dean. Things pretty quiet center of Jersey. Maybe I can talk my wife into moving back to Brooklyn when I retire...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31pm Sam Segal:

I support it, Doctor Jazz...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32pm Sam Segal:

There are still a few semi-affordable areas of Brooklyn left
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34pm doctorjazz:

Moved away just when things started happening there (also away from a 3rd floor, 2 bedroom walk up with dog,a toddler, and a baby to come...
  11:36pm Chris Farrell:

Is NYC dog friendly? I imagine Great Danes with I think of NYC dogs. Or cats.
  11:37pm Dean:

doctorjazz, I get a kick out of showing off my 'hood, but in fact, I'm a big fan of anywhere. There's always something to pique an interest. I don't like to travel, because it's an energy drain and there are so many areas near me I haven't explored. But when I do travel, I'm interested in the stuff that's, like my 'hood, kinda fun, worth a glimpse, not some whoop-ass landmark.

Yet then there's Notre Dame, which depresses me.
  11:38pm Dean:

I *love* Pandelis! Picked up a bunch of his stuff a few months ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41pm Sam Segal:

@Chris: NYC is pretty dog friendly. Plenty of dog parks. It does seem cruel to me to have a big dog that needs a lot of exercise, if you leave the dog trapped in a small apartment all day, so I think big dogs are less common.
Avatar 11:44pm northguineahills:

Ok, I gave my wife my tax shit two months ago, and she's trying to come up w/ deductions now. And she's the organized one! (which is why I let her do it).

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46pm Sam Segal:

The pressure of the deadline will lead your wife to deduction brilliance, I am certain of it!
Avatar 11:46pm northguineahills:

I like the criticism Morty got from critics was his notes were so long, b/c he was nearly blind, he had to write giant scores (see a pic of him w/ his ginormous coke-bottle glasses!). A Brooklyn native treasure!
Avatar 11:48pm northguineahills:

@Sam: yeah, last year, I filed ours the first week of January, but didn't look for deductions. Things are tight now, and if she wasn't artistic/musical, she'd make a great lawyer....
Avatar 11:49pm northguineahills:

Andrew Chalk!

(although I'd make a great law scholar, I'd make a horrible lawyer).
Avatar 11:52pm northguineahills:

Phew! (w/Oren and Jimbo (the second time I've heard him today on WFMU)).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52pm Sam Segal:

What was the other Jim O track?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54pm coelacanth∅:

what's wrong ngh, you don't like lying?
Avatar 11:57pm northguineahills:

@Sam: Women of the World.

@coel: that, and I'm good at memorizing facts, and could never be a law-talking-guy.

Thanks Sam!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58pm doctorjazz:

Thanks, Sam!
Avatar 11:58pm northguineahills:

(but could never be a law-talking guy). (just memorizing more tax deduction facts I wish I never knew, goodbye childhood memories (pushed out of cerebellum).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58pm coelacanth∅:

...but you could be a politician then, run for office.
... oh wait, you DON'T like lying.

then you could be a supreme court judge.
...you don't have any sense of morals, do you?
  11:59pm chresti:

Thanks Sam, fantastic horse show tonight!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00am coelacanth∅:

sorry, i was just reading about the
citizens united scumbags. i'll calm down now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01am coelacanth∅:

Thanks Sam!
good night all.
