NGH: I've been there too many times. Usually, if you stay put, you'll forget you were lost in the first place.

Jeff and NGH, had no idea the two of you were Latin scholars. Took four semesters. All of it immediately leaked out of my head.

.huh, unreleased Marvin?

TDK, fleep! This is really happening.

I am almost certainly incorrect.

Google translate has "ligno" as "tree?"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21pm

I think most of the tracks on that Marvin release had been released on various CD compilations and reissues over the years, but never as a cohesive album.

Doug! I've been meaning to check that podcast out. I've heard good things. Figured it would pair well with my growing appetite for country music.

@NGH: I find Deleize/Guattari utterly impenetrable. Any advice on where to start?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12pm

@Sam: Uh.... Don't start w/ "What is Philospophy?". That book kicked my ass to the curb, and gave me migraines, and took me over 3 months to get through and mostly figure out all 200+ pp. Start anywhere but there....(it's considered they're most obtuse book, and it's translated from French, which adds another layer of complexity).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20pm
Sam Segal:

@Chris: I really like Jason Isbell. I've listened to a bit of Sturgill and enjoyed him as well.
  10:22pm
Dean:

I enjoy dipping into Anti-Oedipus and A Thousand Plateaus, not because I "get" them, but because they are more or less impenetrable (by me). Nevertheless, I get a thrill out of observing thinkers/writers crafting their discourse, their text, to achieve some vague goal.
Avatar 10:25pm
northguineahills:

@Dean: I'm not an expert, but if it wasn't for the internet to crosscheck every damn reference, I wouldn't had stood a chance, it was almost torture, but I'm glad I made it through it...
  10:27pm
Dean:

I mean, same goes for Wallace Stevens. At some point, it doesn't matter that I'm not following a narrative or thematic thread. The words on the page are marvelous. (Same goes for Derrida's "White Mythology," which I'll say is beautiful, even if it's replete with philosophical baloney.)

Quite affected and distressed today by la cathédrale en feu.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01pm
Sam Segal:

It is horrific. Didn't have the words to address it on mic.
  11:01pm
Dean:

Yes, even though Cathédrale en Feu was the name of my first band in high school, the actual circumstance is disturbing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07pm
Sam Segal:

How'd you land on that name, Dean?

Doctor Jazz, your timing is brilliant!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16pm
doctorjazz:

That doesn't get said to me all that often, cool!
  11:19pm
Dean:

I've been frequenting a coffee shop blocks from my place on weekends. The proprietor tends to play a wide variety of musics (noise, opera, pop, punk, etc.), so we got to talking. Hamid Drake has been in town for an event in San Francisco. The proprietor asked him to appear at his shop, but evidently Bill Laswell wouldn't permit it, due to contract issues. Drake suggested he would appear there when he's shortly next in town. I can't wait.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20pm
doctorjazz:

Rare Noise is a cool label.
  11:21pm
Dean:

And my neighbor across the street went to school with Elliot Sharp, who is due in June to play a house in town. In other words, I'm living at ground zero.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23pm
doctorjazz:

Hard to imagine these musician being limited in appearances by contract. Seems the more exposure, the better for all involved.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24pm
doctorjazz:

You're right about this set,Sam, up my alley!
  11:27pm
Dean:

Evidently Laswell is a bit proprietary. I don't have much trouble accepting that, but I don't know for sure, of course.
  11:29pm
Chris Farrell:

That last set blew my mind. My horse will thank you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31pm
Sam Segal:

Thanks, Chris! Let's hope we can land the horse safely in this final set.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31pm

Jealous about all that interesting stuff around your way, Dean. Things pretty quiet center of Jersey. Maybe I can talk my wife into moving back to Brooklyn when I retire...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31pm

I support it, Doctor Jazz...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32pm

There are still a few semi-affordable areas of Brooklyn left
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34pm

Moved away just when things started happening there (also away from a 3rd floor, 2 bedroom walk up with dog,a toddler, and a baby to come...
  11:36pm
Chris Farrell:

Is NYC dog friendly? I imagine Great Danes with I think of NYC dogs. Or cats.
  11:37pm
Dean:

doctorjazz, I get a kick out of showing off my 'hood, but in fact, I'm a big fan of anywhere. There's always something to pique an interest. I don't like to travel, because it's an energy drain and there are so many areas near me I haven't explored. But when I do travel, I'm interested in the stuff that's, like my 'hood, kinda fun, worth a glimpse, not some whoop-ass landmark.

Yet then there's Notre Dame, which depresses me.
  11:38pm
Dean:

I *love* Pandelis! Picked up a bunch of his stuff a few months ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41pm
Sam Segal:

@Chris: NYC is pretty dog friendly. Plenty of dog parks. It does seem cruel to me to have a big dog that needs a lot of exercise, if you leave the dog trapped in a small apartment all day, so I think big dogs are less common.
Avatar 11:44pm
northguineahills:

Ok, I gave my wife my tax shit two months ago, and she's trying to come up w/ deductions now. And she's the organized one! (which is why I let her do it).

The pressure of the deadline will lead your wife to deduction brilliance, I am certain of it!
Avatar 11:46pm

I like the criticism Morty got from critics was his notes were so long, b/c he was nearly blind, he had to write giant scores (see a pic of him w/ his ginormous coke-bottle glasses!). A Brooklyn native treasure!
Avatar 11:48pm
