hah! yah let's restore brain function to that piece of bacon. I can see a horror movie premise somewhere...

Oh wow. I didn't know that was actually SCOTS on that track! I just thought it was a jab at them, but didn't know they why and what of it.

I wish I had read up on him before I pieced this episode together...
Avatar 2:09pm
worldsworstrecords:

...I had no idea he was such a controversial character
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm
Rich in Washington:

This was from that weird period where SST sought to diversify their roster with weirdo art bands - Zoogz, Negativland, Sonic Youth, et al.
  2:11pm
Martinibomb:

I've never heard zoogz rift? Guess I better do some reading now
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm
Rich in Washington:

I never could quite get into his thing. He was sort of a (consciously) outsider figure with at times Zappa/Beefheart aspirations. He was also sort of affiliated with John Trubee.
Avatar 2:13pm
worldsworstrecords:

This was issued as a single in 1977.. the year that punk really took off here in the UK
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15pm
Rich in Washington:

I remember picking up a huge amount of SST material during the just-burst Grunge bubble, as lots of indy label releases found their way into this then-new record chain called Waves, and then everything was vastly cut, like down to $1 - $5. I remember just cleaning out their cool stuff and stuff I had heard about, but never had. I think I got 3 or more Zoogz Rift CDs out of it.
Avatar 2:16pm
worldsworstrecords:

A bargain!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm
Rich in Washington:

I just remember this short period where retailers were taking chances on really weird stuff because they - perhaps characteristically - had no clue. I mean, if this Nirvana band hit it big, why not this Zoogz character?

He was very pissed off at being confused with the guy on the record. Apparently Rodney Dangerfield was an old pseudonym used in the theatre by several people
