Hey Kuba, feel free to explain!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm
Jeff Golick:

Is there a proper (English) translation of the word "döner," as in döner kebab?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm
Jeff Golick:

NZ!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm
David D:

Good question, Jeff. I think it's generally referred to as "kebab" in British usage at least. It's actually very similar to the Gyros in a Pita you might get, I think.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm
David D:

The word döner is apparently Turkish for rotisserie, in fact.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm
Jeff Golick:

Huh. Ok, thanks for that!
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 4:08pm

uhm, don't they eat döners now in california? (libfaketime is a programming tool to trick your server/app into thinking that it's actually a different time than yourzzzzzzzzz

Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 4:13pm
kuba:

hmm nothing to back up my döner claim. could've sworn that i heard mentions of döner on podcasts recently (pronounced dough-nair)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm
David D:

Yes, that sounds like a useful app, I'll have to look into it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm
David D:

The appearance of very expensive döner in the US sounds familiar to me as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm
steveo:

Would you pay £60 for the world’s fanciest doner kebab?
The chef at a central London restaurant aims to push kebabs ‘as far as they can go’. He has certainly managed price-wise

[not U.S.]
  4:18pm

"Döner" is Turkish for "rotating," "revolving."
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 4:20pm

ha, and my buddy in philly introduced the döner at their (german) restaurant! www.phillymag.com...

Correct, Dean! My Turkish unfortunately doesn't go too far beyond döner and its best friend dürüm.

Dave, are there other shows on Radio Blau in English? Is it all music or is there other programming?
Avatar 6:51pm
TDK60:

Oh Dean, thanks for that book suggestion earlier.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:51pm
David D:

TDK: I don't think there is anything else on the regular schedule in English, but some shows will be in English some of the time if the guests are English-speaking, like Kuba's show. There are also some individual shows in the open time slots that are in English and recur every few weeks or months or whatever people decide. The show on before me every other week is in Italian, though.
