Listener comments!

  5:05pm BK:

I didn't forget!
Avatar 12:15pm Sid:

Excellent! The show's just not quite the same without a running commentary that BK won't see until after the show. Gracias.
Avatar 1:19pm Sid:

...and by that I mean that we get to comment on the show and then Bill gets to relive the show through our expert commentary. Quite a remarkable benefit all around!
  2:36pm Al:

Happy belated Easter and Passover to all who celebrate!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Happy Cinco de Mayo today!
Happy Mother's Day next week!
Avatar 3:04pm Sid:

...and may the forth have been with you.
  3:05pm Al:

Cinco de Mayo in America is just an excuse for some people to drink mediocre beer.
Avatar 3:06pm Sid:

Too much good craft beer around now to drink bad beer by choice.
Avatar 3:11pm Sid:

...'cause we're too old for oldies radio.
Avatar 3:19pm Sid:

Ah, the smell of frying bacon.....
  3:26pm Al:

The Remains opened for The Beatles at Shea Stadium.
  3:40pm Listener Robert:

I was hoping to see something about Frank O'Toole on the station home page. Probably bad timing, the word getting around on a Friday, and Field Marshal Ken's going away. Also bad timing to die while you're not on the current schedule.

But now there's a chance the station could meet its fundraising goal during Jim Price's program. Maybe tomorrow, maybe the next Monday. That'd be sweet timing.
  3:43pm Al:

Who says Italians can't rock out? Not Bee Bee Sea.
Avatar 3:50pm Sid:

Quite the legacy - 20 years of Frank O'Toole archives: www.wfmu.org...
Avatar 3:51pm Sid:

When you hot you hot! And I said thanks a lot!
  3:55pm Harold Fridkis:

Hey Bill! I listened to your Blackhole Bandstand on SiriusXM last night. That was a wonderful show! And now, I'm listening to the Teenage wasteland on WFMU.
Avatar 3:57pm Sid:

Los Straitjackets find time to record an EP while also touring with Nick Lowe.
  4:00pm Listener Robert:

But FXO's archives don't capture the very different flavor of his show as it was in the 1980s. Like a lot of WFMU DJs, the show followed his changing tastes. Case in point: Kamikaze Diane.

Meanwhile Bill Kelly's playing more or less the same thing now he was then, as it's come out. It's reliable for those of us who like this sort of thing. Which means us, right now.
Avatar 4:17pm Sid:

I love this Teenage Wasteland crap!!
  4:19pm Morphe':

There is a Jerry Mungo Beard/Mutton Chops joke in the new Avengers film... In a crowded cine in Madrid ..I was the only one laughing - my children "SHHHUSSSSED!!! ME!!!"
  4:23pm Morphe':

Listener Robert Meanwhile - is Bill Kelly still wearing those skinnnnnnnyyyyy white jeans???
  4:24pm Mahall:

What was that insane neo-'50s all-girl "they made me fight and I killed her" song? A fine addition to the pantheon of '50s stupid teenage death songs....
  4:25pm Al:

@Mahall - Sounded like the Shangri-Las, but I don't know if it was.
Avatar 4:26pm Sid:

These Avengers /X-Men/Deadpool movies have all kind of baby boomer cultural references. I was laughing when my nephew just looked perplexed. They eventually get them though.
  4:35pm Morphe':

Bill Kelly ....ARE YOU!!!!!! still wearing those skinnnnnnnyyyyy white jeans???
  4:37pm Al:

I noticed that there were two Planet labels. The Thoughts were on Shel Talmy's Planet label, the other Planet label was Richard Perry's.
  4:39pm Listener Robert:

But, Sid, do they ever allude to THESE Avengers?: i.pinimg.com...

Because that'd be the coolest baby boomer cultural reference of all.
Avatar 4:40pm Sid:

Richard Perry's Planet Records was '78-'82. He sold it to RCA. I remember early 80s Pointer Sisters records coming out on that Planet Records.
Avatar 4:44pm Sid:

I'll certainly never forget Diana Rigg. Don't know if the kids have watched the original Avengers on Youtube yet. Might be too subtle for them.
  4:45pm Morphe':

Diana Rig and the Explosions - my new favorite made up band name after - Eucharist Crumbs --- my older son's band was Puuppy Corpse
  4:45pm Al:

Diana Rigg was and is a goddess.
  4:48pm Morphe':

My wee 7 year old is so into "COMBAT"???? He is super non-violent but loves "Comabt" "Daddy he is stuck there with the Krauts but we need not worry.. He is one of the four who never die>>"
  4:50pm Al:

"Combat" with Vic Morrow? Ironically, Morrow died a tragic death.
Avatar 4:51pm Sid:

Eucharist Crumbs - Service Mark that!
  4:51pm Morphe':

Al - I can google but how???? You are not thinking of Hogan's Heroes dude??
  4:52pm Al:

@Morphe' - No, that was Bob Crane. Morrow died in an accident making the film Twilight Zone.
  4:53pm Listener Robert:

You'd be surprised, Sid -- or maybe not -- how subtle screen allusions they sometimes use. Like maybe somewhere there's one of the Marvel Avengers wearing a bowler hat.
  4:55pm Listener Robert:

This is why I might be watching a certain episode of a certain TV show for the 3rd time and bust out laughing as I "get it".
Avatar 4:56pm Sid:

Robert, one can spend hours on IMDB reading deconstructions of the comic book hero movie references. Fascinating.
  4:57pm Listener Robert:

Even fucking TV COMMERCIALS have inside or subtle jokes.
Avatar 4:58pm Sid:

Humor is good. Waiting for the late night talk shows to get back to it. May take awhile.
  4:59pm Little Fyodor:

Haha, I have "Indian Giver" in my 45's collection, but I haven't listened to it in years (decades?)!! Thanks for that!!
  5:00pm Morphe':

AI- decapitated on set by helicopter blades - 2 wee children also died...

1982 - had no TV... WFMU - WNYU (Evan Funk D... ) no mention???
I was working in St Mark's Bookshop - surprised it did not come up to my ears..
  5:00pm Al:

Great show Bill, thanks!
Avatar 5:03pm DouglasInDallas:

Who was that from Dallas, Texas at the end? Great show again man. My little kitty over here napping and kept smiling at the jams. Keep on rockin'! Caint wait for my 2019 SWAG!
Avatar 5:07pm Sid:

That's a cat with good taste!
  6:43pm Bill Kelly:

I only own skinny blue jeans. I'm 5-11 and 150 lbs. and can still wear 'em. My credo is "survival of the fittest", not survival of the fattest.
