Ridgewood Radio features concert recordings by adventurous bands and experimental musicians and restored archival tapes from private and institutional collections captured at venues large and small across the five boroughs of New York. It is produced by David Weinstein and Outpost Artists Resources operating out of the Ridgewood section of Queens, NY, where you'll find more yellow bricks than on the road to Oz and the cemetery of your choice is never more than a few blocks from home.

Howdy David and folks!

Sadly, it took an illness cancellation, but I will finally get to see Samara Lubelski tomorrow (with Bill Nace, and a Michiyo Yagi/Tony Buck duo also on that bill). I've been consistently missing her stops here for years

Schell:

Cuong Vu is from right here in Seattle. The other half of Cristina Valdes, who just premiered a version of Heiner Goebbels' Surrogate during his time out here with the Symphony.

Howdy chresti and glad to see Dr. Schell again, too!

That should be terrific, Fred.

Well, Schell, our conversation thread continues!

I fully endorse unpredictability as the best of all abilities.

Hello, David, Ruth, the OAR firm, Stanley, and all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm
david w:

Crothers/Bisio were a great pairing. And almost all her "pieces" on this night were about peace, or at least anti-war.

david w:

Super Sem!

Brilliant

I've had a few confusing interactions with coworkers lately: it seems there's a Toni Braxton who's unrelated to Anthony Braxton, in any way. I didn't know about her
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm
david w:

Yeah, Fred. Kind of polar opposites. A confused conversation that I imagine could be quite amusing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm
fred:

@David: it was, in retrospect. My lack of knowledge about Toni matched theirs about Anthony. And we probably all walked out thinking "how come they don't even know about Braxton". Which isn't a good thing (I plead guilty)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm
david w:

A conversation something like: Person A says "I love how Braxton embeds quantum theory on this last album" and Person B rolls eyes and says, "you mean the retro beats?".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm
steveo:

all I know as that this has nothing to do with Tony! Toni! Toné!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm
fred:

@steveo: how come there's no Toné Braxton project? Here's your next name!
@David; close enough
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm
fred:

@David: except I was the clueless one, and the latest one ended with the killer line "That Braxton? I think maybe my dad has one of his records" Which is probably not even true, but point taken
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm
david w:

I have junior assistants, many in their 20s, who dropped that line to me. They're trying!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm
Stanley:

Jazz haha

Webhamster Henry:

Jamie Saft is impressive. He lives up here in the Mid Hudson. We played in the same Maryanne Amacher birthday party last year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm
david w:

Hello, Henry! I kind of went off the rails there, didn't I?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm
fred:

That's some nice trumpet playing there, with the right processing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:42pm
david w:

Processing can be a cheap crutch, and it is everywhere these days. But not here. (Man, I'm cranky today!).

It's as though this show emerged fully formed out of my subconscious. GET OUT OF MY HEAD, WEINSTEIN.

Look into my eyes...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57pm
david w:

That's it, all. Thank you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm
fred:

@Jeff: you're so lucky that something straight out of your mind sounds so good. And you all are lucky that what comes out of my subconscious doesn't make it to the air. Nobody needs an Urtyn Duu/Okinawa/noise soundtrack to abstract contemporary dance
Avatar 4:58pm

¡'sta luego!

Great show, David. I like a bit of jazz now and again
