Hi, everyone! I'm not going to be here for today's show - I'm watching a recreation of a 1920s flea circus at the Brighton Fringe Festival ... BUT ... please mingle and chat and enjoy the music. Leave me lovely messages! Hugs! Georgy x

Damn, tried to force it to play, but friggin Led Zep again. Sorry, Georgy, I tried!
Avatar 5/10 1:21pm
Mr Fab:

Avatar 5/10 1:22pm

Could it be swapped out post-show for later listening in the archives?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5/10 1:23pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Too bad, but hey ... this show is worth listening a second time. We're only a bit dazed and confused...
Avatar 5/10 1:24pm

Oh yea, letting it roll. If only for the killer closer of 'Open Up (Said the World At the Door)' by The Move.

Alice was such a bizarre show. I remember watching it as a kid on Friday nights. Just something to watch in those pre-VCR, pre-cable, pre-everything days.

I reiterate my wish last week to edit up some Telly Savalas into Sheena station ids.

Couldn't get the proper show to play. This is last week's episode. But other than that...
  5/10 1:59pm

Yeah that is annoying! Oh well at least all of GGs shows are fantastic and always worth hearing again.
  5/10 2:01pm

I have to go do some yard work before it gets to 90. Be back in the chat room for Otis later. Guess I'm listening to an encore edition while I chop weeds

Oh, just super busy at work, so on the Fridays where I don't do radio late the night before, I must actually go to the office. Not sure what my schedule will look like in June, so there's that.

'Sup, Rich! GG, i have an excellent comp called "Soho Blondes & Peeping Toms," described as "saucy tracks reminiscent of red lights and red faces, of '60s Soho and the Profumo era." I have (or will) add scads of tracks from it to the Sheena stream.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Hello Otis! :-)

Mr Fab:

hey cool, 'Come On, Let's Go' is a Richie Valens song. San Fernando Valley represent!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Yeah - early British rock and roll. We didn't know what to do with ourselves at the start of it all, so loads of cover versions until we found our feet :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm
Rich in Washington:

Love the tympani on this track!

Super talented AND married to Joan Collins - lucky bloke! ;-)

DJ GeorgyGirl:

I love this song. Always have. Johnny Kidd :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

There's not an awful lot going on in it - I think it's that eerie sparseness that makes it.

Good old David Sutch :-)
Avatar 1:26pm
Mr Fab:

yeah, I usually think of Screaming Lord Sutch as the horror novelty guy, but this rocks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm
Rich in Washington:

Sounds like the Meat Puppets crazed version is just a straight cover of Sutch's!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I'm glad you both like it :-) I wanted to play more by him and not just, like you say, the horror stuff :-)
  1:29pm

I'm here listening just off doing various tasks
Avatar 1:30pm
Mr Fab:

Was this a hit, or at least well-known record, or an obscurity that the Clash discovered?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

He was HUGE in France - I'm jjust about to post the article I wrote about him on the group :-) Fascinating stuff!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm

I'm tediously logging (helpfully silent) video footage today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Cliff auditioning for The Beatles here ;-)
  1:33pm
Martinibomb:

I think that hip hop groups also sampled that brand new Cadillac for a song but i can't seem to find it.. I know that riff was used for some hiphop back in the early 90s
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Yes ... can't think of it either. He's definitely super underrated in terms of influence.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I cannot even begin to imagine what Screaming Lord Sutch would have made of Brexit. lol.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

In the wake of Jimmy Saville and Operation Yewtree, a number of entertainers from that period were taken in for questioning to varying degrees, and some ended up being prosecuted and imprisoned. That's why I mentioned Cliff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm
Rich in Washington:

Yeah, it was shocking to see Cliff caught up in that.
Avatar 1:41pm
Mr Fab:

Cliff's "Devil Woman" did go Top 10 in the US. So there's that.
  1:41pm
Martinibomb:

gawd damn fun little melody and chugging drums
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm

I distinctly recall that song being played on the radio a lot as a kid. I still like it. Love 70s story songs.

Mr Fab:

Johnny and the Hurricanes?! Yes,an American band infilitrates th Flange and Frigate!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm

"Devil Woman" comes from the "I'm Nearly Famous" album. A staggeringly brilliant album. Genuinely. :-)
  1:43pm
Martinibomb:

Play some Jet Harris & Tony Meehan :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Did I just cock up again? Are the Hurricanes another Sir Julian moment? Ha! Opps ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Thumbs up to Jet and Tony! I'll be revisiting early British rock and roll at a later date :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

And my obsession with "Golden Earrings" continues ;-)
  1:45pm
Martinibomb:

I can never get enough of Jet Harris & his baritone guitar/bass work. Would have loved to have seen him live
  1:47pm
Martinibomb:

Just saw that The Ventures are selling off their guitar collection in my neighborhood.. guess I should go get autographs.
Avatar 1:48pm
Mr Fab:

wiki sez: "Johnny and the Hurricanes were an American instrumental rock and roll band from Toledo, Ohio."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

He did rather tend to get - pun sadly intended - overshadowed by Cliff and also the others in the band.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Hi everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Mr Fab - naughty corner for me! Do I get a special pass because it's such a good record tho? :-D

Avatar 1:51pm
Mr Fab:

Hi Jan! interesting Martinibomb, there's only one original member of the Ventures still alive, and he's retired. So i wonder if those are the Ventures' actual guitars.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

It's not that big an area of London but it certainly feels like it when you're trying to find Frith Street from Leicester square tube station and you keep getting bloody lost! Ha! ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Yes, it was a rough week, But the cats are in the clear now. One of them probably had a heart small attack recently. They let me hear his heart and asked if the interns could have a listen as well. It was a rare kind of heart rhythm (like all over the place..) but it doesn;t seem to bother the little old man, so... steady as she goes :-)
  1:54pm
Martinibomb:

@Fab yup it's just going to be Don Wilson. Says he's selling off the Ventures guitar/gear collection tomorrow plus signing autographs/taking photos etc.. it's at a friend of mine's guitar shop which luckily just a few blocks from my house and The Ventures were probably the first thing I was interested in music wise as a kid
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm

I know the quiet feeling. Lost our 18yr old pug last year.. and that was the thing that got me was the quiet in the house.

Same when we lost our Cleo seven years ago. Not hearing her pad across the floors at night was the hardest :-(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm

Joop was a funny little character. Not very social AT ALL, a loner, but not agressive, kids could do anything with him. He didn't mind.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm

He sounds like a complete sweetie
