I dunno...it probably would have. I just prosecuted a solution until there clearly was none, then shrugged. The streaming box and the router weren't speaking. After I rebooted the router, it wasn't speaking to anything. I have changed out the router and all should be well for next week.

I am probably the only listener who is finding almost all of this show unfamiliar. I know I've heard some of it, but it's not in my regular rotation. So, this is quite interesting, though I also do look forward to the final set consisting entirely of performances of "If I Were a Bell."

I’m sensing a theme.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52am

Gonna need six more hours to make it that far, @LG.
  10:56am

I'm up for it, Jeff. Also, consider one hour of Bill Evans playing Nardis, which some research has revealed that Miles actually wrote even though he never played it.

  11:09am

When we get to his time with Charlie Parker, I'll explain how Miles is the actual composer of Donna Lee. I love telling that story.
  11:10am
Doug Schulkind:

My beloved Jessie once shared a flight from New Orleans to NYC with Miles and Cicely Tyson. They were in first class, each wearing full-length white fur coats (it was not winter), and Jessie was in the back, hanging out and smoking with Miles’ road manager and crew, with whom she shared a cab back to Manhattan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10am
Jeff Golick:

Hey, @Dean. Oh yes. Indeed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13am
Jeff Golick:

Jessie is a queen among mere mortals, @Doug. I think Tyson had a hand in getting Davis out of the house during his black-out years, and helped usher in his 1980s return.... Unless I"m totally wrong about that.

Hydration break, done about 9 miles, about 14 to go (tho hilly part coming now).
Saw Miles late in his career, after he had a sorta hit with Time After Time. He spent almost all his time at keyboards, just picking up his trumpet here and there. Makes sense; trumpet is supposed to be very hard to play, physically. Benny Carter, who played alto and trumpet early on, gave up trumpet as he got older. Roy Eldridge, late in his career, mostly played piano.

Ok, up the hill I go....

Tyson helped Miles dry out and physically rehab after his stroke in ‘82. Back on that flight from New Orleans, I believe the report was that she was as high as Miles was.

Your Miles morning is making my kitchen morning a blast. Thank you for this show, the many moods of Miles. Much obliged. Jeff.
  11:19am

Everybody on that flight was as high as Miles for its duration, weren't they?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19am
Jeff Golick:

So glad to hear it, @Sem.
  11:19am
Doug Schulkind:

I saw Miles only twice, once in ‘81 at the beginning of his comeback, then again in fall of ‘82. Second show was at a theater in the round in Cleveland.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21am
Jeff Golick:

How were those shows, @Doug?
  11:24am
Doug Schulkind:

The shows were pretty good, but it’s hard to hear when you’ve stopped breathing.
  11:25am
Doug Schulkind:

Bill Evans was in Miles’ band. But not THAT Bill Evans.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am
Jeff Golick:

An understandable condition, given the situation.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27am
Jeff Golick:

Here's a Miles concert review snippet from around 1972: "[this music] is someone clearing their throat, cats fighting in the alley, a kid dragging a stick along a picket fence, a dog howling in the night, or even fingernails screeching against a blackboard, a most nerve-wracking sound. And what's worse? All of that going on at the same time... Now, it's usual for musicians to warm up and tune up before actually going into their performance and Davis followed suite [sic]. However, the entire performance sounded as if it was a continuous tuning up. Imagine 45 minutes of people tuning instruments!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28am
Jeff Golick:

That's via the invaluable Miles discographical site plosin.com
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28am

@Jeff, that's funny! To think about people even tuning up their instruments!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28am

I'd walk that camel through the eye of a needle.
  11:29am
Listener Gregory:

Maybe the musicians were playing a game of Name that Tuning?
  11:32am
Dean:

Ravi Shankar told a variation of that joke about tuning up at the Concert for Bangla Desh in August '71!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:34am
Granny Spicy Tuna:

I'd thread that needle with The Eternal Now.
  11:37am
Listener Gregory:

From Allmusic.com on this album: The set lists vary but offer something remarkable as a whole: The only period where Davis played music from his bebop, hard bop, modal, and electric eras on one tour.
  11:38am
Doug Schulkind:

The sound of his horn is spectacular on this number. Each note had its own propulsive power.
  11:42am

Amazingly, every band member except Davis is still alive and very active 50 years later: Corea, Shorter, Holland, & DeJohnette!

@Jeff, the crazy thing is that you could make that joke about any instrument in his bands, and it would be just as good. "My horn section is John Coltrane and Cannonball Adderley. What's yours?"
