They eat horse for breakfast, in some parts.
Avatar 9:05pm
TDK60:

Hey Chrest, you rode into town. Hey where are we? <- those hills in the photo I mean. Smokies?
Avatar 9:08pm
northguineahills:

In Iceland, I was at a restaurant that had Icelandic horse steaks. I didn't order it (even though I was curious), as my wife would murder me. (and there was a horse farm w/in viewing distance of the restaurant).

Sam Segal:

Sorry folks, there seems to be an internet outage in my area. Not quite sure what to do. Going to try to connect via hotspot and see what happens.

Hi TDK60, I think we're hearing the GTDR stream, good guess, I don't know my mountain ranges..could be the Santa Monica Mountains
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10pm
chresti:

Hi Sam it's later than you think..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10pm

So far so good!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10pm

Thanks for sticking around, everyone. Let's see what happens.

Dr John coming through! Hey, Horsemen!

Pike's Peak, CO?
Avatar 9:14pm
TDK60:

..was just listenin' to 2nd LP 'Babylon' with my brother last night. And 'Gris Gris' is top album of mine, since those late nights long ago!
  9:15pm
Chris Farrell:

Hi Sam and horse-friendly folk. Feeling under the weather but excited to tune in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21pm
doctorjazz:

"flag Waver" was the first I was aware of the good doctor...FM staple at the time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25pm
Franco Twinkie:

Sam! Let's celebrate Dr.John. I only saw him once, with Frank Zappa and Captain Beefheart on New Years Eve. He was wearing the bonnet of feathers and baptizing the audience with glitter.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28pm
doctorjazz:

That's quite a triple bill, Franco! Man! (Saw the good Doctor many times, but m missed Zappa and Beefheart).
Avatar 9:29pm
TDK60:

..saw Frank Z several times, but not the doctor or the captain.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29pm
Sam Segal:

Hey Gang, think the internet has been restored in my area. Gonna try to reconnect, which will require me to hop off the stream briefly. Should only take a quick moment.
  9:31pm
Dean:

Never ceases to amaze me when the 'net goes offline. I mean, it was designed precisely to get around that issue. For all except the last mile, I suppose.
Avatar 9:32pm
northguineahills:

@Dean, it's not like we live in a first world country w/ infrastructure like South Korea.

@Sam: You're welcome to go past midnight to get your full set in, we won't mind!
  9:32pm
Chris Farrell:

Could be because of the helicopter issue in Manhattan..
Avatar 9:33pm
TDK60:

..there are still Americans who need to be de-Anglo-Saxonized. [!] 'Gris Gris' is one such tool!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38pm
Franco Twinkie:

Doctors John's memoir Hoodoo Moon is a great read. The life he led was a real trip to the dark side. The man earned his stripes.
Avatar 9:42pm
TDK60:

..I oughta read that, Franco..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46pm
Sam Segal:

Would like to take this moment to personally welcome @TDK, @Franco, @Chris, @NGH, @Dean, @DrJazz, @Chresti, and anyone who has yet to announce themselves!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48pm
chresti:

@Chris, I was thinking the same thing.
  9:50pm
Dean:

Er, the rhythm of the night is distinctly nocturnal just now... Stream cut out?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50pm
Sam Segal:

Had to go back from hotspot to wifi. Should be good now.

Ah, started up again when I refreshed the pop-up.

I think I'll use the drop out to go out front and water. The plants should be like steamed spinach just about now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55pm
Sam Segal:

Wait, did someone guess that photo was from Pike's Peak? If so, you were correct!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55pm
Sam Segal:

Don't wander too far, Franco!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:56pm
Sam Segal:

Ah, that was you, NGH. Well done!
  10:00pm
Dean:

Saw that today, chresti, but I don't want to live on a Greek island. I want to live and die on Cyprus. My ambition has almost nothing to do with place, almost everything to do with history and the word "Cyprus."
  10:04pm
Dean:

This set is reminding me of an evening in LA listening to a radio program I no longer recall. DJ played Tosca's "Chocolate Elvis," etc. Next day, I drove to a record store in...was it Long Beach? Lakewood? Compton?...to pick up some CDs of the stuff. Also picked up a collection of Willy "Lion" Smith tracks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07pm
chresti:

I saw it and thought of you@Dean. Will Cyprus pay you to move there?
  10:09pm
Dean:

Thanks, chresti. If they really knew me, yes, they would.
Avatar 10:10pm
TDK60:

..let's /all/ move to Cyprus, and start an olive farm, and a radio station, have goats..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12pm
Sam Segal:

@TDK: love that idea...maybe a flexi-disc label too?
  10:13pm
Chris Farrell:

I like TDKs idea. I can quit my job I haven’t started.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13pm
Franco Twinkie:

Weather report from the front yard: HOT!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14pm
chresti:

What year abouts, @Dean?
  10:14pm
Dean:

Howzabout we start with Cypress, CA, try out the olive, radio, goat, and flexi-disk thing, maybe add a public library, then take the workshopped version to Cyrpus?
Avatar 10:14pm
TDK60:

..you all mull it over this evening. I gotta hit the sack; we'll talk more at our next meeting...
Avatar 10:16pm
northguineahills:

@Dean: like the poppy beat driven band, Tosca?

Also, Cyprus was originally named for the large deposits of copper it had, which was important in the Eastern Mediterranean Bronze age. The fact it had cyprus trees is what gave the tree its name.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm
chresti:

I might like this better slowed down
I meant when you were in LA listening to the radio@Dean
Avatar 10:17pm
northguineahills:

Darn, stepped out and missed Moodyman...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17pm
Franco Twinkie:

Since this thing is still on the fritz, I am going to listen to A Question Of Temperature by The Balloon Farm.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18pm
Sam Segal:

More Moodymann always on the horizon on this program, @NGH!
  10:18pm
Dean:

Was in LA 1961 or thereabouts to 2000. Radio show was c.1995.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18pm
chresti:

I might go for it, if it's not too hot, or we can live in caves, Cyprus/Cypress
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20pm
chresti:

Goodnight TDK60.
  10:22pm
Dean:

Yes, NGH! Took a stab recently at reading Hill's four-volume history. "Stab" means about 80 pages.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23pm
chresti:

KLON, KCRW, KXLU,...
  10:24pm
Dean:

Oh, and yes, that Tosca. Might have been KCRW, which I could barely stand. Maybe KLON.
Avatar 10:25pm
northguineahills:

Sounds good Dean! They used to be on my major rotation list when I had decent paying dj gigs at trendy spots, that wouldn't kick me out if they didn't like what I played (believe me, I've been kicked out of many clubs for djing stuff the manager didn't like).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28pm
chresti:

I mostly listened to KXLU and KUSC, in 95
  10:30pm
Chris Farrell:

I like this song. I recently saw the Lincoln memorial and it’s making me think of that..
  10:30pm
Dean:

1995 I listened to KPFK (incl. the amazing Thursday Lunch show, which featured all those jam bands to which Sam alluded) and KUSC, still one of the best (or least intolerable) classical stations.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33pm
Sam Segal:

@Chris: What was the best part of your trip to DC?
Avatar 10:35pm
northguineahills:

I wasn't familiar w/ Damon Locks, so I opened my book, Freedom, Rhythym & Sound, Revolutionary Jazz Cover Art, and the album is there!
  10:37pm
Dean:

Haven't been to DC in years. I most miss the National Portrait Gallery and Obelisk on Dupont Circle.
  10:39pm
Chris Farrell:

My moms boss gave her her room so we had a hotel room with a pool table, a study, a 15 person dining table, and 3 balconies overlooking the Potomac. I was a little overwhelmed by how nice it was. It was called the Gaylord Resort and it’s in a place called the harbor.. I also liked one of my Uber drivers who played reggae the whole ride which was cool. The whole trip was amazing given the fact I had been away at school and it was sort of a last minute surprise for me.. and my mom who had to go last minute for work
  10:42pm
Dean:

Chris, that sounds (and looks!) amazing.
  10:46pm
Chris Farrell:

Yeah it was very special. I was by myself most the trip so it was unique. It was crazy because I moved out of a efficiency apartment I had been living in for a year at school the day before. There was only one bed in our room though so I slept on a couch lol!
  10:49pm
Dean:

I'm partial to couches. Ours is cat-shredded, almost 20 years old, but irreplaceable in terms of comfort. I love it evenings and afternoons.
  10:57pm
Chris Farrell:

That sounds sweet. I had an awesome recliner that was my grandpas for years and my parents threw it out against my will.
  10:59pm
Chris Farrell:

I’m fairly allergic to cats so I wouldn’t fare well on your couch I don’t think lol.
Avatar 11:11pm
northguineahills:

I'm really digging Unknown Artist, must get more of their stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12pm
Sam Segal:

Very versatile chops, this Unknown Artist has!
Avatar 11:14pm
northguineahills:

Naming your band that would be one way to make your band invisible on the internet....
  11:15pm
Jeff g. out w the dog:

Good evening.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19pm
chresti:

We have a big chair and ottoman for relaxation, no room for a couch
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20pm
Sam Segal:

Evening, Jeff!
Avatar 11:21pm
northguineahills:

Funny. I had a couch in Brooklyn in my tiny-ass apt, but not one in my FL house.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26pm
chresti:

When I get real tired, and Franco is using the chair, I can sit on a stack of books.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29pm
chresti:

...or records
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33pm
chresti:

It's modular, too. I can arrange stacks and throw a couple cushions on top, to make a daybed
Avatar 11:34pm
northguineahills:

I have a queen size bed, which only comes in handy when my wife visits, as I usually only use 1/5 of it (she bought it just when she visits)
Avatar 11:34pm

Loverly GUE!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37pm

Galactic Unity...a helluva concept!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45pm

Nice set, Sam, thanks.

Thanks, Chresti!

Neil Campbell!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54pm

Yes, and I forgot to add "Grumbling Fur Time Machine Orchestra," a project by Daniel O'Sullivan and Alexander Tucker.

Not sure when you're ending, but thanks again Sam, put please continue if you wish....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09am

Thank you, NGH! I think I'll leave off here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10am

Sam playing Sam Prekop. Love his stuff and the Sea and Cake!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11am

Yeah! Something like detention, but fun, @Franco?
