A three-hour exploration of excavations from the farthest reaches of humanity's hellish collective brain, through records, tapes, CDs, mostly scoured from country bumpkin thrift stores, creepy charity shops, backwoods junk stores, and even the internet - all mixed live. We don't judge, we just play 'em. Hosted by Rich in Washington.

Reagan Speaks For Himself sounds like a good track to play on a 4 o' July weekend show! I'm already planning ahead for THAT show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:13pm
Hopey Sockmonkey:

Reaganomics almost seems quaint compared to present day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:14pm
Rich in Washington:

I used to have this tape loop cassette of just all Ronnie's stammers, urs, uhs, etc. and I would leave it playing at work, sometimes for hours.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:14pm
Rich in Washington:

Hi Hopey! Glad you could make it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:15pm
Rich in Washington:

Don-O, there are two distinct versions of this track up at Ubuweb! I put one of them there myself.

Mr Fab:

i seem to recall first hearing Ronald Reagen Speaks For Himself" on a flexi that came in Raw magazine. Which was my intro to Raw.
Avatar 7:18pm
Don-O:

Hopey!!
Avatar 7:18pm

I also remember that track featured in Sonic Outlaws documentary.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:18pm

Hello Lungs!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:18pm
Rich in Washington:

yeah, like former Soviet Bloc youths who sort of long now for the innocent days of pre-fall-of-communism, I'm sort of looking back at ronnie somewhat differently. But in some ways, he was sort of the gateway to this anti-government craziness.
Avatar 7:19pm
geezerette:

Raw was brilliant.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:20pm
Rich in Washington:

yes, and then it was on an early Sub-Pop cassette release. Both versions are slightly different. I think the RAW version was before he was elected and the Sub-Pop after. The version I played came from a comp, which used the latter version.
Avatar 7:21pm
Mr Fab:

yeah, I should check to see if it's been republished in any format. Art Speigelmen, Gary Panter...Drew Friedman maybe?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:22pm
chresti:

...and Rich!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:22pm
Rich in Washington:

hi chresti! Thanks for tuning in!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:24pm

I got to screen Sonic Outlaws in a half filled theater with Negativland's lawyer doing a Q & A afterward.
Avatar 7:24pm

some Talking Heads made this record, as I recall

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:26pm
Rich in Washington:

Not sure what inspired this somewhat Reagany mix. I guess my hand went to weird places on my shelves. One record leads to another.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:27pm
Rich in Washington:

Love the Jack Dangers production goodness that's all over this album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:31pm
chresti:

this is great, damn!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:33pm

Glad you're diggin' it, chresti!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:33pm

Ah, Meat Beat Manifesto-Danger
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:35pm
Rich in Washington:

yeah. He produced that EBN album and it really shows.
Avatar 7:35pm
Mr Fab:

When this early sampling stuff came out, i kept hoping for another "My Life In The Bush of Ghosts." Which didn't really happen for me til Golden Age Hip hop (Bomb Squad, Dust Bros, Prince Paul). Fun to hear this stuff now, tho. It's been ages.
Avatar 7:36pm
Don-O:

Heavy Very-SubGenius vibe on this one.
Avatar 7:36pm
geezerette:

I think there was a Fear song with the refrain, "What you have is freedom of choice. What you want is freedom from choice."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:36pm
Rich in Washington:

I am getting rather nostalgic for a lot of that 90s music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:37pm
Rich in Washington:

It's sort of an outlier on this album too, which actually pretty industrial sounding.
Avatar 7:39pm
Don-O:

What DID that floppy disc do from that EBN album. I could never get mine to work.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:41pm
Rich in Washington:

It was a series of really conky early Quicktime videos.
Avatar 7:41pm
Mr Fab:

that was Devo, geezerette!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:41pm
Rich in Washington:

i had an old mac that would play them, but they were really worse than the worst YouTube video you could find nowadays.
  7:42pm
Martinibomb:

oh yeah!! i love this haven't heard it in a long time
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:42pm
Rich in Washington:

I really wish some smartypants would find a way to reissue both the album (on vinyl) AND their videos, but I am sure they are completely unclearable now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:43pm
Rich in Washington:

I ended up editing this heavily. It is full of really awful racist language.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:44pm
Rich in Washington:

This is an alternate read of the one we're more familiar with - and also the disco track made by Don Bolles. This surfaced fairly recently.
Avatar 7:44pm
Don-O:

This is SO 90's End Times Fun!
Avatar 7:48pm

i literally was LOL-ing out loud to that Coyle and Sharpe.

I've been intrigued by the whole Dec thing ever since getting Donna Kossy's excellent book Kooks. I have a reasonably good facsimile of one of his flyers hanging in my office.
