Non-traditional groups with practices outside the norm of the day can accomplish great things before the Kool-Aid (I know, wrong brand name) gets passed around. ACTUP could pretty easily be (mis)read by future historians as a pre-millennium doomsday cult with Larry Kramer as its Jim Jones. “ACT UP! Fight back! Fight AIDS!” was definitely a meme that went viral way back when biological viruses were the only kind we had.
