@Otis: I just played that on the work PA. Let's see what happens.
Avatar 2:10pm
Mr Fab:

Sake martinis are real, btw. I have had them. I've made them, even.
Avatar 2:11pm
Ursula1000:

those would be perfect for this 80s Japanese menu!
Avatar 2:15pm
Mr Fab:

'80s Japan? I have/had records by YMO, P-Model, The Plastics, Frank Chickens...er, I'm stumped. As always, WFMU DJs are hippin me to scenes I'm only vaguely aware of.
Avatar 2:16pm
Ursula1000:

those r all great! a lot of YMO dudes on these records---they did a ton of session work and production
Avatar 2:18pm
Mr Fab:

Ah, Ok. And i' ve had some Riuchi Sakamoto albums at some point, not sure what decade. Love whoever's jammin on the steel drums!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18pm
Rich in Washington:

I love YMO! I think they first ever import record I ever bought new was an YMO album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:20pm
Rich in Washington:

There's also some tripped out folk, like Kazuhiko Kato's album Super Gas from '71.
Avatar 2:20pm
geezerette:

This is the kind of music Shane Gline's characters listen(ed)to.
Avatar 2:25pm
Ursula1000:

and now some City Pop---Japanese yacht rock vibes in full effect!
Avatar 2:27pm
Mr Fab:

i have never heard so many steel drums featured in non-calypso musics. (Which is a very good thing, ALL genres could benefit from steel drums, eh?)
Avatar 2:28pm
Ursula1000:

there's a great new comp from Light In The Attic called Pacific Breeze where that last track others from that era appear--Japanese City Pop, AOR and Boogie 76-86
  2:31pm
Martinibomb:

I'll have to grab that Pacific Breeze comp sounds great!
  2:32pm
Martinibomb:

Hey do you still have that flip of the Danger Diabolik theme you made like decades ago? Was trying to dig it up the other day with no luck.
Avatar 2:33pm
Ursula1000:

the drum and bass one?
  2:34pm
Martinibomb:

Yup pretty sure that's it. Seemed like an older one of yours before your style got really settled in
Avatar 2:36pm
Mr Fab:

I'd be all ears for a "Deep Down" remix.
  2:36pm
Martinibomb:

it wasn't deep down it was the main guitar theme
  2:37pm
Martinibomb:

but now that you mention it.. maybe I'll stick it on my todo list heh
Avatar 2:38pm
Ursula1000:

Chase Sequence No. 3! I'll track it down. Yeah, a nice remix of Deep Down would be ace. Search on YT for a Mike Patton version of it that he did w this Italian big band. A-MAZING!
Avatar 2:39pm
Ursula1000:

its called Mike Patton's Mondo Cane
Avatar 2:39pm
Mr Fab:

Whooah! Just added that to the top of my must-look-for list.
  2:40pm
Martinibomb:

Ooh I did hear that Mike Patton version and yeah! totally that guy killed it.
Avatar 2:40pm
Mr Fab:

Mike Patton does some nutty stuff. Certainly haven't heard anyone else cover Lon Chaney jr's "Spiderbaby" Theme.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41pm
Otis Fodder:

Patton's Mondo Cane is amazing. Morricone Youth have a wonderful version from last year on the album, "Danger Diabolik" too.
Avatar 2:41pm
Mr Fab:

i love any version of "Temptation," one of those '50s exotica standards, but this is special.
  2:41pm
Martinibomb:

"Spiderbaby? Yes, it's got the head of a spider and the body of a baby." -- Father Ted
Avatar 2:41pm
Ursula1000:

yeah that Morricone Youth one is awesome
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42pm
Otis Fodder:

Devon from Morricone Youth (and the WFMU show Morricone Island)!
  2:43pm
Martinibomb:

Devon/Morricone youth grew up with a good friend of mine. So it's funny to my friend that we both have shows on WFMU right now
Avatar 2:45pm
Mr Fab:

Yeah, Devon's been doing well for himself with Morricone Youth. i recently walked into a shop, and there was one of their albums on display. They're getting around, getting some distribution. Good for him!
