	4:05pm Otis Fodder: Wow, I get to listen on a Friday now to you and Don and Rich. Last few weeks I have been out on Friday evenings as shows. Tonight it's all about music, cooking, cleaning and music.

	4:07pm Otis Fodder: Summertime Heavy is perfect right now. It's hot here in Montreal, so much while I was out today we had a 2 hour blackout taking down 3500+ spots. Tonight will make black beans and rice (southern soul food style), later though, after Rich's show. Going to snack on fruit and cheese in a bit with a glass of white wine.
	4:08pm Otis Fodder: Waiting to cook in a hot kitchen until the sun is just going down past 8pm ET. Cooler that way. Too hot to even think about cooking now. Hot damn.
	4:09pm DJ GeorgyGirl: That sounds delicious!!! I had homemade chilli yesterday, so today was rice and a veg assortment for me :-) Radio food ;-)
	4:09pm DJ GeorgyGirl: It's been raining all day but we're supposed to get a thunderstorm to really break the humidity. It peaked at 96% today. Gulp.

	4:11pm Otis Fodder: If I did it really right, I'd use the crock pot for a few hours after letting my beans soak overnight, like for tomorrow, but I'm going to shortcut it all, I think... or I just might prep for tomorrow's dinner and just do some sort of tapas with what I have in the fridge. Fascinating.

	4:14pm Mr Fab: i was a fan of the space program as a kid - one of my uncles used to be an engineer at an aerospace company, back when that was LA's major industry. I could expound at great length on the technicalities of Apollo. I won't, but I could!

	4:30pm Rich in Washington: His passing was just days before my 50th birthday. Both those events hit me like a ton of proverbial bricks. I still haven't recovered from Bowie.
	4:30pm DJ GeorgyGirl: I was going to play my stylophone on the radio today and then completely forgot. Sigh.
	4:30pm Linda Lee: tho' i'm cast one hundred thousand miles, i made it to the flange & frigate!

	4:31pm Rich in Washington: Me too, Hopey. It was the last record I remember going into some big box retail store and buying a brand new album - and the first in quite some time.
	4:31pm Linda Lee: as far as i can tell, this isn't a Bowie-less world at all. he's still here for us as he always was.
	4:31pm DJ GeorgyGirl: Bowie died about two weeks before my best friend - one of our last full conversations was about Bowie. That was a shite year. Ha.

	4:58pm Linda Lee: it was just a unique sort of art piece.

	4:59pm Linda Lee: it really did. didn't particularly want to do it, though. the gear looked heavy & they had no faces!

	5:02pm Mr Fab: i saw an actual space capsule in a museum and couldn't believe how small and uncomfortable it looked. i was flabbergasted that anyone would willingly allow themselves to be squeezed into this tin can, sit on top of a missile and shoot into the unknown. That is just off-the-scale bravery.
	5:03pm DJ GeorgyGirl: With all the equipment as well? Wow. That's insane. Why is it so small?
	5:04pm Linda Lee: ooh! paint the moon, the stars and the sun black!
	5:04pm Rich in Washington: our science museum growing up, OMSI, used to have a reproduction Gemini capsule that you could sit in. It was fine for little kids, but adult sized people were stuffed in like sardines.
	5:04pm Linda Lee: ah, sure! thought it might be Scotland.
	5:05pm Rich in Washington: I still want a space capsule for a music listening station.
	5:06pm Linda Lee: i'd guess the size is just about reducing mass. my idea of hell, frankly :-D
	5:07pm DJ GeorgyGirl: The British space programme consisted of some very tall ladders. lol.
	5:07pm DJ GeorgyGirl: Tall ladders and stout hot air balloons ;-)
	5:08pm Martinibomb: not just nixon but Kennedy getting killed kinda kicked conspiracy into high gear here.

	5:09pm Linda Lee: in the 50s horror was very much concerned about nuclear power, though. horrible monsters birthed by nuclear blasts. havoc. it was also about conformity & 'the other' invading the sacred communal space.

	5:14pm Mr Fab: George Romero admitted that each of his zombie films were reflective of the times they were made. "Night of the Living Dead" being influenced by the civil rights movement with it's doomed black leader.
	5:14pm DJ GeorgyGirl: I've mistakenly attributed Shawn Phillips to Joe Meek in the next talky bit. Whoops! :-)
	5:17pm Linda Lee: funny, but i find the hero's race only incidental to the story. i think it's striking that way. his character isn't about being black ~ though the civil rights movement is very much happening behind the film. sure.

	5:26pm DJ GeorgyGirl: It's strange to think that there are at least, what - two? three? generations who have no personal connection to the space programme in terms of memories or anything like that.

	5:27pm Linda Lee: ha! no way i'm this good at mult-tasking. that is sort of wild, about your daughter. i'm afraid i was never super excited about 'outer space' ~ i was the sort of kid who saw space exploration as irrelevant to our troubles ~ but sure, 'space age' was very much the thing in design, in music, in clothing, in tv, movies. really incredibly fruitful as a concept. not so much the actuality of it, which was rather dry, but the potential!

	5:30pm Mr Fab: Well, we've never stopped going into space, hence your cell phones, GPS, weather tracking etc. It's become somewhat commonplace. But yeah, manned space travel isn't too important anymore. It's just too difficult and dangerous. Unmanned probes get all the glory now. (Go Mars rovers!)
	5:31pm DJ GeorgyGirl: I have to confess that the only Heinlein I've ever read is Stranger but I loved that so I really should read more.
	5:32pm Linda Lee: i must say here that "Telstar" is one of the first records I liked. i'm not sure i could even talk yet..

	5:33pm Rich in Washington: That was my exact experience with The Tornados' Telstar, LL! It just sounded like it came from outer space to me as a very young child. I loved it.

	5:47pm Don-O: I visited Flashing Meadows for the remains of the World Fair when I was in NYC in 2008. I also saw Xanadu On Broadway, too. OHWHATAGIVEAWAY!!!!

	4:07pm Otis Fodder: Summertime Heavy is perfect right now. It's hot here in Montreal, so much while I was out today we had a 2 hour blackout taking down 3500+ spots. Tonight will make black beans and rice (southern soul food style), later though, after Rich's show. Going to snack on fruit and cheese in a bit with a glass of white wine.
	4:08pm Otis Fodder: Waiting to cook in a hot kitchen until the sun is just going down past 8pm ET. Cooler that way. Too hot to even think about cooking now. Hot damn.
	4:09pm DJ GeorgyGirl: That sounds delicious!!! I had homemade chilli yesterday, so today was rice and a veg assortment for me :-) Radio food ;-)
	4:09pm DJ GeorgyGirl: It's been raining all day but we're supposed to get a thunderstorm to really break the humidity. It peaked at 96% today. Gulp.

	5:02pm Mr Fab: i saw an actual space capsule in a museum and couldn't believe how small and uncomfortable it looked. i was flabbergasted that anyone would willingly allow themselves to be squeezed into this tin can, sit on top of a missile and shoot into the unknown. That is just off-the-scale bravery.

	5:04pm Rich in Washington: our science museum growing up, OMSI, used to have a reproduction Gemini capsule that you could sit in. It was fine for little kids, but adult sized people were stuffed in like sardines.

	5:27pm Linda Lee: ha! no way i'm this good at mult-tasking. that is sort of wild, about your daughter. i'm afraid i was never super excited about 'outer space' ~ i was the sort of kid who saw space exploration as irrelevant to our troubles ~ but sure, 'space age' was very much the thing in design, in music, in clothing, in tv, movies. really incredibly fruitful as a concept. not so much the actuality of it, which was rather dry, but the potential!

	5:30pm Mr Fab: Well, we've never stopped going into space, hence your cell phones, GPS, weather tracking etc. It's become somewhat commonplace. But yeah, manned space travel isn't too important anymore. It's just too difficult and dangerous. Unmanned probes get all the glory now. (Go Mars rovers!)
