Hopey Sockmonkey:

Moon stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:02pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Don't tell anyone but I almost missed the start of my show as well. ;-) I thought it was earlier than it was and ended up having about ten minutes to set everything up. There must be something in the air!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:04pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I wonder what he would have made of the moon landing?
  7:06pm
Agent Spacegirl:

I'm sad that the youth of today is not CRAZY over moons, Stars, Planets.
  7:06pm
Agent Spacegirl:

YES!!!
Avatar 📖 7:07pm
Mr Fab:

We went to the moon because of the Cold War. Once we beat the Commies, NASA's budget started getting drastically cut, and we never went back. Not the narrative the government has pushed, but that's basically why. Still, far cooler than building more bombs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:07pm
Hopey Sockmonkey:

I love the canned sound they always seemed to use of control room/space age equipment.
Avatar 📖 7:08pm
Mr Fab:

I used to always play this song for my daughter, she loved it!
Avatar 7:09pm
spacebrother:

It's a great one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:09pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Isn't there a theory that Apollo 11 didn't do nearly as many things as it was supposed to simply because the whole space race thing made the US say "Now!! Whatever! Just send them up!". And they weren't *quite* ready.
Avatar 7:10pm
spacebrother:

I've heard that. I have a friend what thinks that it was the second or third time we landed there because to fail on live TV was unacceptable.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:11pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Is that why Russia have never landed on the moon? Was it literally a case of whoever got there first won, and then it was all over? :-(
Avatar 📖 7:11pm
Mr Fab:

That could very well be true, GG. the Saturn rockets were pretty crude, basically a controlled explosion, as ive heard it described An explosion with wings.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:12pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

When you saw "an explosion with wings" that makes me terrified. Bloody Hell.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:12pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

See - the rehearsal for the live "success" makes sense given that everything was perfectly shot and lit and what have you and everyone seemed to know where to go.
Avatar 7:13pm
spacebrother:

Also Russia had some very bad accidents that set them back too far to catch up.
Avatar 📖 7:13pm
Mr Fab:

There was an engineering issue with Russia's rockets that they couldn't resolve in time. So yeah, after Apollo 11, they probably just said, "Ah, ferget it."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:14pm
Rich in Washington:

recently watched a doc about the Russian moon program. They were having problems both with booster engines and with political infighting, until the USA beat them to it, then their moon project sort of petered out. Also, the main director of it suddenly died. Of natural causes. Really.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:14pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I still think Buzz Aldrin could have dressed up in a monster costume and pretended for the camera. ;-)
Avatar 7:15pm
spacebrother:

@ GG :))))))
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:15pm
Rich in Washington:

They blew up unmanned rocket after unmanned rocket and by the time they solved the problem, the USA had landed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:15pm
Rich in Washington:

still not used to the new schedule.
Avatar 📖 7:15pm
Mr Fab:

GG: Ha!!
Avatar 7:16pm
spacebrother:

Yeah, and they kept sending people up no matter what and had way more accidents than they let on.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:16pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

How much did all of this cost??
Avatar 7:17pm
spacebrother:

In Russia, rubles spend YOU.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:17pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

LOL!!!
Avatar 📖 7:19pm
Mr Fab:

Love all the gratuitous electronic effects thrown in to these songs. And Chipmunk voices. What pop music needs nowadays.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:19pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I completely agree You can't go wrong with noises and weird voices. These songs are fabulous. :-)
Avatar 7:20pm
spacebrother:

ALL aliens 1955-1980 sounded like the Chipmunks. I think it was a law.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:21pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Marvin the Martian :-) He still makes me smile.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:21pm
Rich in Washington:

I think the most egregious misuse of the Chipmunk's voice effect is Carlos Casal, Jr.'s Don't Meet Mr. Frankenstein. It doesn't even make sense.
Avatar 📖 7:22pm
Mr Fab:

ha, yeah, sounds like Frankenstein is only 6 inches high?!
Avatar 7:22pm
spacebrother:

Wow! Now I have to look that up!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:23pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Woah. I just looked out the window and Brighton has disappeared. Mega sea mist!

I DEMAND THIS SHOW BE RETURNED TO ITS 3 HOUR FORM:

we can only dream Georgy!
Avatar 📖 7:25pm

This show's quite appropriate coming after the all-"Telstar" show.
Avatar 7:25pm
spacebrother:

@ GG - It would give me 1 more hour to procrastinate!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:26pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Greg - I thought they meant you do a three hour show! :-) I say go for it :-)
Avatar 📖 7:26pm

The astronauts really did like country music, and they brought tapes of it with them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:27pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

To be fair, country is the perfect travel music
Avatar 📖 7:28pm
Mr Fab:

Neil Armstrong brought a tape of Les Baxter's "Music Out of the Moon," how cool is that!?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:28pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

If I was going to the moon, I'd be packing some Jerry Reed and Gene Autry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:28pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Just when I thought Neil Armstrong couldn't get any cooler :-) A Les Baxter LP is awesome :-)

Rich in Washington:

I used to have that Lucia Pamela song on a mixtape I'd play it often at my work and a bunch of older ladies in a small assembly area used to like it. They would sort of sing along to it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:30pm
Hopey Sockmonkey:

Captain EO was the Michael Jackson ride.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:31pm

Sheena's Jungle Room IS JFK's "Other Things" :-)

Avatar 7:32pm
spacebrother:

@ Rich - You should have recorded them. Did you?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:33pm
Hopey Sockmonkey:

I used to love all the space themed stuff at Disneyland back in the day. Although the Monsanto microscope one used to frighten me.
Avatar 7:33pm
spacebrother:

@ Hopey - YES. Captain EO! We used to call it "Captain BO"
Avatar 📖 7:33pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:37pm

Avatar 7:45pm
spacebrother:

@ GG - You may now float. And dance
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:47pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I am now dancing as if I were one of those car dealership balloon people :-)
Avatar 7:48pm

Don't hurt yourself! That's stressful on the spine. Those car dealership guys fill the hospitals.
