I slept like ass last night. Which makes no sense because I spent the entire day out and about, riding shotgun on a Jersey voyage that took me to old hangouts near n' dear to my heart in exotic places like Trenton, Princeton, and New Brunswick.
Too bad none of that helped me sleep more than a winky, then fumbling through this radio show (my first attempt at monkeying with the Accuplaylist system, which I'm delighted to call a stunning success), and then coming home to make a needlessly complicated dinner involving both vegetables and bratwurst. (I have this stupid theory that eating something bad for you can be cancelled out by eating something good for you in the next bite. Which is how I completely grossed out a friend of mine by once having a glass of soy milk with a cheeseburger.)
V3 | Another Exterminator Eaten by Bugs | Psychic Dance Hall | The late Jim Shepard's magnum opus, if you ask me. His suicide = the loss of a true creative genius -- the kind of guy who cut right through all the baloney and said things that really needed saying. For a few weird minutes in the mid 90s, bands like V3 got major label record deals that flopped, but resulted in amazing albums that are now available in bulk for a buck or two the whole world over. This song's not on that record, but if you ever see "Photograph Burns" anywhere (and you will, believe me) pick it up.

Mick Jagger | Lucky in Love | She's the Boss | Mick has some serious girlass going on in the picture on the back of this record. I wish I could blame my use of the world "girlass" on someone else, but alas, I think I just made it up. | 0:21:53 Pop-up)

Styrenes | Anything | We Care, So You Don't Have To | I think I want this song played at my wedding. Which is odd, because it's a song about doubting everything. But still -- what a sentiment, and who better to put it forth than former Pagans screamer Mike Hudson. A pity he's no longer involved with the band. | 0:41:17 Pop-up)
Emory Swank | Center City | 7" | 0:44:25 Pop-up)
Joey Ramone | Maria Bartoromo | Don't Worry About Me | I remember walking past CBGB's a few days after the WTC attacks, and thinking that I was, in some weird way, glad that Joey had died before it happened because the shock probably would've caused the guy to check out even more prematurely than he did. An FMU hit from last year which I totally forgot about until just now. | 0:48:31 Pop-up)

Boogie Boys | Fly Girl | Street Jams Part Two: Hip Hop from the Top | I know I've waxed endlessly about how important and influential the old WBLS and KISS-FM DJs like Mr. Magic, DJ Red Alert and Chuck Chillout were to my early hip hop edification, but it would be remiss of me not to again point out that this song is a personal mixtape fave from that era. The Stalin | ??? | Killed by Death #5 | I need more Japanese punk rock in my life. This kind, not the kids with the synths and the gizmos. If anyone can find the GISM LP for me, I'll sing the karaoke song of your choice while wearing a cowboy hat and flip flops and/or be your best friend. | 2:26:26 Pop-up)
