I never miscue a record. I am punctual, well-prepared, and dislike clutter. Outgoing and helpful, I'm always appropriately dressed. I do not behave erratically and have excellent penmanship. My CD's never skip, and I am in good health. I like all the notes, in any order.

Avatar 1:18pm Bryce:

wild turkeys are actually pretty smart!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm Phillippe Bastille:

Saw a study recently that compared problem solving skills in crows vs young children (4 yrs old maybe) and the crow won almost very time. We should pit the turkey against the same crows and kids and see what the pecking order looks like
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm crateslinger:

Wild Turkeys are smart, but domestic turkeys can drown in the rain by continuously looking up to see what is tapping them on the head, so you have to put a roof on their hutch. They have like no brain whatsoever.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm crateslinger:

Their beak noses fill with water and they drown.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23pm steveo:

Avatar 1:24pm Hubig Pie:

Too much wild turkey and I start talking to my imaginary friends
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm Phillippe Bastille:

They put some floating food that the crow likes in a container of water so the bird couldn't reach it, did something similar, either food or a small toy, can't remember which, for the kids and left a lot of small stuff around. The crows figured out that if you drop objects in the container, the water level would rise and they could get the food. The kids, not so much.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm Phillippe Bastille:

Hubig Pie. I'm someone else's imaginary friend.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm chresti:

Crows are smart
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm crateslinger:

Search says turkeys drowning is a myth, but that's what my dad told me, and he had domestic turkeys for decades, and they were certainly dumb (maybe so was I). I have hunted wild turkeys, and they are not dumb.

  1:44pm mic_channel:

Crows and grackles are different birds. We have them both around here. Grackles are seasonal, a little smaller and have subtle iridescent feathering on their heads and necks. And they walk like jerky windup toys. I once saw a crow chase off a cat that was stalking a rabbit. So baffling, but wonderful. What was the motivation, other than being badass? Hello Bryce!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm steveo:

@bob homepage says 90.1 is off the air
Avatar 1:45pm Bryce:

sphere, yes, not only THAT....but if i'm not misremembering, after much time had passed, and there was a new generation of crows around, the crows offspring also reacted to the masks, as if they had been told stories.

  2:36pm mic_channel:

Forming patrols to spot and chase hawks out of town is another crow behavior I have seen. If you look at a horse straight on, nose first, their face suddenly makes sense. "Hey, you've been grinning at me all along and I just couldn't see it." Why am I making all these fragmented animal observations this week?!

krys, i feel like i just related this anecdote the other week, but until a couple years ago, there was a mockingbird that would hang out a few blocks from the station every summer. among their birdcalls, they would still include fragments of that ubiquitous late 90s/early aughts sequence of 7 car alarm sounds. you know the one i mean?
