Aw, I already miss the days of being able to do things like Indian accents without being seen as "problematic."

Hiya, Ursula1000!
Heya, everybody!

Ha, this Tip Top track is just *almost* Jean-Jacques Perreys' "EVA." Just need a vocoder voice going "Bi...ki...ni..."

Me too, Jan! My work's apeshit lately, esp. while getting things tied up before I go on vacation after this week.

Ursula1000:

that Tip Top track was from this UK radio show from the mid 90s during the lounge revival era--a faux variety show--they did this single as a 1 off
Avatar 2:11pm
Ursula1000:

called Radio Tip Top
Avatar 2:13pm
Mr Fab:

it was excellent (well, this whole show's been great so far) - a fake "EVA" doesnt bother me, as long as it's good.

Martinibomb:

I never heard Tip Top. That song was interesting cover I would have expected them to sample or something
Avatar 2:14pm
Ursula1000:

yeah totally---I think Dave Formula of Magazine fame plays keys--its the show that debuted Mike Flowers and his Oasis Winderwall lounge cover
Avatar 2:15pm
Ursula1000:

Wonderwall
Avatar 2:17pm
Mr Fab:

Oh ok, The Mike Flowers Pops, yeah they did some great stuff. The Velvet underground medley is hysterical. Wish they'd done more stuff.

Avatar 2:22pm
Ursula1000:

Avatar 2:25pm

Hi, I'm back after cooking and eating accompanied by this fabulous mix
Mr. Fab - I support the title problematic programming other than the bad taste of using that word at all, I miss those days too...
Avatar 2:35pm

Thanks Jan!
Avatar 2:42pm
Mr Fab:

Oh yeah, United Future Organization, another '90s combo. Japanese, i believe? Had at least one of their CDs (back in the CD era). Ursula1000: spearheading the lounge-revival revival.
Avatar 2:43pm
Ursula1000:

I love inputting info the playlist and its brand new for the system! Yeah UFO from Japan--awesome combo!

The overflow of obscure music is always impressive!
OTOH, there's lots of times I look for something obscure that only pops up on WFMU.
  2:51pm
Martinibomb:

@Ursula On my system I tried loading a 2hr mix into MIXXX and it kept crashing. I ended up using BUTT to play this pre-recorded mix I had from iTunes. So we should probably get that working on your system as a backup system incase Mixxx isn't working for whatever reason.

Webhamster Henry:

From my top 10 imaginare sound events of 2106:
Carnaby Single Flexidisk, 1966 / 2016 reissue
Swingin' London during the British Invasion years produced a lot of ephemeral oddities, but of particular note was this Flexidisk, actually embossed on the front of a vinyl miniskirt! To play it, you convince your bird to remove the miniskirt and fold it rather lumpily onto the turntable. It's been reissued like so much other vinyl because: vinyl. I hear there's a similar Beret.
Avatar 2:52pm
Mr Fab:

hey Henry!
There's also the fact that Sheena's DJs are mad-fiend record collectors working from home, not using the FMU library. i would guess many DJs at a station don't feel the need to go hunting for stuff, there's plenty in the stacks.
  2:52pm
Martinibomb:

Bring back wearable flexidisc! What a fantastic lost format
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:53pm

That's true! - It's the pre-fire Library of Alexandria, and that's not even counting the cassette dungeon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm
Jan Turkenburg:

@MB, so mixxx having problem with playing two hour tracks isn't uncommon? Good to know.
Avatar 2:55pm
Ursula1000:

thanks for the Mixxx update---
  2:55pm
Martinibomb:

At least on my system.. 90min was fine but 2hrs it crashes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:58pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Well I have the same experience, so there might be a vulnerability.
  2:58pm
Martinibomb:

oh I sampled that same cha cha cha record hah and you got some Doing Time cool
  2:58pm

Great set, Ursula! I feel like I'm ready to face the laundry now. Thanks for the inspiration.
