Hey cc! I’m weirdly caught up (more or less) with work so I’m relaxing in the back yard. With N. Places. Did a long bike ride today and it kind of wiped me out.
Avatar 1:22am
sv:

how long of a bike ride are we talkin here? i want a bike so bad. regularly salivating over craigslist posts of em these days.
  1:27am
rw:

75 mi. A friend just bought a touring bike and asked me if I’d be up to do a loop with him maybe in Colorado. I was testing out both me and my bike today to see what kind of shape we’re both in.
Avatar 1:28am
sv:

holy shit, that's amazing
  1:29am
rw:

He bought his bike and some bags off some rich kid for a little more than the bags would cost new. Said you can get good deals because people buy them and it often doesn’t work out
Avatar 1:30am
sv:

good for him - i gotta look into that
  1:31am
greatb:

lovin the vibes, keep em coming
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31am
coelacanth∅:

wow nice rw! the only bragging rights i have is that i rode home just now in almost total blackness (& drunkness)
...{not much to brag about}
  1:34am
rw:

He also said, “The other side to that is that when some dude’s selling one that he actually rode the shit out of he tends to think it’s some kinda national treasure.”

Thanks! Yeah, it’s a rude I used to do all the time on the same bike as a kid but today I thought I was going to die!!
  1:34am
rw:

ride
Avatar 1:36am
Scraps:

I fckn luv, I mean LUV, the EP =How Much Are They?=. Not only is Jah Wobble, but Holger Czukay! And Jaki Liebezeit!! And it’s just as good as its sounds. 1981, my favorite musical year. Maybe not the highest highs, but 1981 has SO MANY albums and EPs and singles. Ah, sigh
  1:37am
greatb:

unknowingly associative yes, the subconscious has already made the connection
Avatar 1:38am
sv:

@scraps just came across that record the other day, it is indeed a goodie!
Avatar 1:38am
sv:

i love having connections made for me
Avatar 1:38am

(Maybe 1978 has the highest highs)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39am
coelacanth∅:

...i didn't ride 75 miles (more like 4 miles) but there is something invigorating about the last mile because i can't see much of anything but there's a light far ahead that i know is near my house and pretty much a straight line from where it gets dark so it's a challenge of skill just slightly but more a challenge of trust
  1:39am
greatb:

yes it is a good deal we get from our subconsious
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41am
coelacanth∅:

...(i'm not even sure i've ever taken a 75 mile ride.
60 is all i can be sure of)
  1:44am
rw:

cc, that ride in the dark sounds fun!!
Avatar 1:45am
sv:

jeez, y'all are makin me wanna go for a ride very badly
  1:47am
greatb:

i cant drive 55 ;)
  1:50am
rw:

greatness, if I didn’t have a subconscious I don’t think I’d have consciousness at all.
  1:51am
rw:

Greatness? I meant greatb! Fucking spell check!
  1:51am
greatb:

i hear ya rw, ole slowhand said a version of the same
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51am
coelacanth∅:

ha!
  1:55am
rw:

I mean, not that I’m saying you’re not great or anything. Just, you know.
  1:58am
greatb:

so do yall think Oswald acted alone?
Avatar 1:59am
sv:

i'd say no
  2:00am
greatb:

hm, a conspiracy
Avatar 2:00am
Scraps:

man o man, I wish, every once in a while, that I could again bike. Though I really, really wish I could juggle anymore. Juggling was soothing.
  2:00am
rw:

I’m not touching that one. But if I were I’d be with sv.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01am
coelacanth∅:

probably one of the best rides i've had was i'd been in rocky mountain state park for the weekend (which was accidental) and (accidentally) exited
next thing i knew i was in winterpark/frazier and looking for food. found this cafe happened to be next to a bike store. went in and a guy came in -we talked -decided the next morning...
he knew a ride that was a ski slope not used that time of year... what a fantastic ride! serious strenuous up; crazyass concentration downhill back! incredible!
  2:03am
greatb:

yeah me was well rw. hm.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03am
coelacanth∅:

oswald was a patsy
  2:04am
tak:

a conspiracy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04am
coelacanth∅:

(it's really fucking obvious)
  2:05am
greatb:

right on coela. i mean he did say as much, right?
Avatar 2:05am
sv:

i wish i could juggle too, fuckin a - that ski hill run sounds amazing. my uncle used to talk about doing stuff like that a lot. he fucked up his knees so bad mountain biking.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06am
coelacanth∅:

...and now they come out with some of the horribly racist shit that asshole reagan said...c'mon. only fucking idiots didn't see that back then.
corruption is THE WAY!!
  2:06am
greatb:

surely there must have been some wfmu-associated sojourn to Dallas to discover The Truth
  2:07am
rw:

Those cyclists in CO are insane. Absolutely insane. Ski slope ride!! You can do that out here but they take you up in the chair lift. But your experience sounds way better!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07am
coelacanth∅:

excuse me, i need more guacamole.
  2:09am
rw:

Steve Reich is so great.
  2:10am
greatb:

always new reich to discover, lovin it
Avatar 2:10am
sv:

his music makes me want to have lots of good ideas
Avatar 2:12am
Scraps:

I really don’t get Reich.
Avatar 2:13am
sv:

his stuff clicked with me instantly, but i know when i've played it for other people they've said that it makes them nervous or that they're not fans of the way his pieces develop
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15am
coelacanth∅:

subliminal valedictorian that just means you already have good ideas
  2:15am
greatb:

yeah i see it as an energy to harness, a bit like listening to African drumming
  2:16am
greatb:

i've followed through on lots of good steve reich ideas
Avatar 2:17am
Scraps:

Huh, RateYourMusic says
Virginia Astley is Pete Townshend’s sister-in-law.
Avatar 2:17am
sv:

the music world is tangled with lines of connection
Avatar 2:18am
sv:

i'd like to think that i have good ideas but it's so difficult to tell, ya know?
  2:19am
rw:

I used to have a tape of Reich explaining his processes and ideas about music and the structures of some of the works. I wish I still had it. I’ve listened to Music for 18 Musicians so many Times I couldn’t even begin to count.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21am
coelacanth∅:

sometimes...
but i'm confident i have good or original ideas...
...and i'm confident i wont realise them before somebody else (Daniel Menche, looking at you!) realises them
Avatar 2:22am
sv:

oh man, i'd love to have that tape - music for 18 musicians is such a wonderful experience. feels new every single time.
  2:22am
rw:

Good ideas are over rated. It’s the follow through that counts!
Avatar 2:22am
sv:

hahah yeah, i hear you - good ideas, follow through on said ideas leaves something to be desired
Avatar 2:23am
Scraps:

Thirty-five years or so ago I had to take =Tehillim= off the stereo when tripping. It felt like my teeth were grinding away.
  2:23am
rw:

sv, judging by little more than this radio show I’d say you’re doing pretty well.
Avatar 2:26am
sv:

yeah, tehilim is not my favorite of his tbh
Avatar 2:26am
sv:

shucks, thanks rw!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:40am

crap. morning birds.
this morning Jeff played something that had afternoon birds in it - whilest i was planning to go back to bed.
it didn't work; i was up.
Avatar 2:43am
sv:

hot damn - your circadian rhythm sounds like it's really doing its own thing
Avatar 2:51am
Scraps:

Birds are very soothing to me. Even crows.
Avatar 2:52am
sv:

i'd agree with that, though a bassy drone with crow caws atop it is a very spooky thing indeed
Avatar 2:58am

another summer fun tune. thanks for this show
