At first La Lava Toxica reminded me of "I am..I said" by Neil Diamond
Avatar 7:30pm

Avatar 8:46pm
Kurt Gottschalk:

punky?
  8:49pm
Dean:

Punky Meadows w/ Angel, Santa Monica Civic, June '76, certainly one of the top three or four loudest shows in my experience
Avatar 8:52pm
Kurt Gottschalk:

me and my best friend threw a fit insisting we should be able to see them in '76 or so. mind you, we'd never heard them, but they looked cool in the picture. we lost that one.
  8:53pm
Dean:

Another being NON at Kelbo's a few years later, Yes at Anaheim Stadium, also '76

Angel were decent, just about as glitzy/glammy as you'd expect. But those goddamn synthesizers...so ear-splitting loud.
  8:55pm
V Priceless:

Roger Meadows Taylor, that is
  8:57pm
Dean:

Oh, yeah, Meshuggah around 2005 at The Pound in SF were pretty freakin' loud, too.
  8:58pm
Dean:

And Brotzmann's Full Blast at Berkeley's Jazz House around that time.
Avatar 9:00pm
Kurt Gottschalk:

REM in their early years remains one of the loudest bands I ever saw, and I saw them 4 or 5 times between the first single and murmur.
  9:04pm
Dean:

Two bands surprised me inasmuch as they weren't loud at all: Mogwai at the Troubadour and Jesus & Mary Chain at the Hollywood Palladium.
  9:05pm
Dean:

For me, the Mama Bear band in terms of volume has to be Zeke. Always just right.
  9:12pm
Dean:

Was just singing "Brown Shoes Don't Make It" to my 13YO this evening.

i've probably seen many famous people i didn't recognise.
i had a very nice, even flirty conversation with Natalie Merchant and after she left the store a co-worker said do you know who that was?
i said some woman my own age that still has fire.
had no idea.
  9:52pm

Jay Sebring, nixed by Manson's gang. Al Lewis, Grandpa on The Munsters. Met 'em both. Beat that!

Same with me, I'm oblivious, I'm real bad with actors, and current musical performers, they frequent the tennis courts, where I work.

John Wolf Brennan was in a Swiss prog group, Flame Dream, for which a guitarist for a time was Dale Hauskins, an acquaintance of mine in Downey, CA, who was (probably still is) a remarkable guitarist in the mold of Holdsworth.
