PigeonsAndRust:

Am I bad person for wondering if the impending Ken Burns doc is going to make my old old country records more valuable?
  8:27pm
JakeGould:

That Ken Burns… Summarizes things well, skips major things, but you still can’t hate his work.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:27pm
Becky:

There are 8 2-hour episodes. There will definitely be gripes for diehard fans but you will be very pleased with some of the interviews, photos, videos, etc.
  8:28pm
JakeGould:

@Pigeons: September to December of any year is prime flipping season… Unless we dip into a recession…
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:29pm
Becky:

We all got in on the ground floor!
  8:31pm
Miles:

ah. I don't know where i got the 4 episode idea. that was disappointing . 8 is cool. is Hank snow represented?
  8:32pm
yippie:

are they allowed to curse in the documentary?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:32pm

He is mentioned but not featured.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:32pm
Becky:

It follows FCC standards.
  8:33pm
JakeGould:

I believe the proper word is “cuss” in this case.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 8:33pm
PigeonsAndRust:

Oh, I'm into 78s...there is no discernible flipping season. I was just telling someone earlier tho that the 78 subset of the hobby is so small one pop-culture event would totally change things, like a detective show starring an eccentric record collector or something. Maybe I should petition Andy Breckman (if he ever shows up)
  8:33pm
Miles:

ken shoulda just skipped the frickin 80s & 90s
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:34pm
Becky:

@Miles deeply agree
  8:34pm
Miles:

and most of the 70s
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:35pm
Becky:

@Pigeons there was the Amanda Petrusich book. Maybe they'll option it?
  8:35pm
sufferwords:

Dane Stint? fuck yeah
  8:35pm
JakeGould:

@Pigeons: Just in general; as someone who sells things occasionally online, you will get tons of sales right after Labor Day for things that just sit for months. Holidays, fall, new jobs, who knows…
  8:38pm
P-90:

Ken Burns-coordinated programming! Looking forward to it.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 8:39pm
PigeonsAndRust:

There are certainly enough real characters in the 78 hobby for a movie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:40pm
Becky:

I'm considering doing an all-78 show in October. Just so much to carry....
  8:42pm
Miles:

I'm sure that more than
half of episode 1 is dedicated to chronicle Johnny Sea
  8:44pm
miles:

I have been known to DJ 78s at a bookstore/cafe here in LA .
2 CALIFONE "turntables" no fanfare

the only hand you can count on in this life, has your fingers on it.
  8:48pm
Listener Robert:

Anybody remark about the resemblance of both the music and lyrics of "I'd Still Want You" to "I'll never get out of this world alive"?
  8:48pm
Neptune Beach Florida:

Country music has all been downhill since the Carter Family stopped recording.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:49pm
Becky:

Guess I should quit while I'm ahead.
  8:49pm
Neptune Beach Florida:

Why can’t this be a two hour show? Does WFMU and New York City not like Hillbillies?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:52pm
Becky:

Our genre shows are one hour on WFMU.
  8:54pm
Neptune Beach Florida:

Sorry Becky. I was joking both Times. Humor and the inter webs. I wish you could do two hours. Radio thrift shop was a multi hour affair.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:55pm
Becky:

Ha, no worries! I don't know if I could handle a two hour show!
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 8:56pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

Thanks, Becky. Glad you're here for this calendar.
  8:56pm
Neptune Beach Florida:

It would be hard with actual 45s and records but if they were digitized it would be a snap.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 8:56pm
PigeonsAndRust:

Yes, thanks Becky!
  8:57pm
Miles:

genre spanning makes for good listening but it's actually hard to weave country into a broad ranging set
  8:58pm
Neptune Beach Florida:

I disagree. country is folk music. Rock is folk music. Three chords.
  9:00pm
Miles:

when we next meet the long awaited ( 15 yr?) Kenny B doc will have aired
  9:00pm
Neptune Beach Florida:

It’s all peasant music.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 9:00pm
PigeonsAndRust:

On the other hand, longer shows can be easier to program for genre-spanning...gentler transitions are possible
  9:01pm
P-90:

Thanks, Becky
