Hi circle carcass time!
  12:05am markreichard:

Hey there Chresti!
Avatar 12:08am Scraps:

hey h’lo hey

mmmm, love Gil Evans
  12:11am markr:

I don't know about you guys, but this Pharmakon stuff is scaring the shit out of me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13am chresti:

it is intense
  12:13am markr:

Man, I don't know who crossed this old witch, but she sounds PISSED.
  12:13am Tom in St. Paul:

That was a pretty sharp turn from Gil Evans to Pharmakon (but who's complaining?)
  12:13am markr:

Let's remember this album for Halloween
  12:14am markr:

Yeah but I talked in between, Tom. That changes everything.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14am Franco Twinkie:

I'm a little concerned about that person as well as curious.
  12:14am markr:

BTW half the houses on my block have Halloween stuff up already. By the time Halloween rolls around, they'll probably have Christmas decorations up.
  12:15am Tom in St. Paul:

Ears reset. I get it, Mark.
  12:15am markr:

Actually, google her--as I recall, she's rather attractive. But she's probably like that one in the shining--the beautiful girl who turns into a scary old hag.
  12:15am Tom in St. Paul:

her album art is just as scary: https://pharmakon.bandcamp.com/music
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16am Franco Twinkie:

I know it's not the same person....but lets pretend.
  12:17am markr:

That wasn't one of my brutal cuts--that's actually the way that track ends.
  12:18am Dean:

You's guyses' notion of scary is pretty lightweight.
  12:20am markr:

Oh you come up here in the dark all by your lonesome and listen to that shit--you'd be shittin' your pants, tough guy.
Avatar 12:21am Scraps:

Hey, I can get into Scary Cat Stevens if I want to.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21am coelacanth∅:

greetings Mark and all
  12:22am Dean:

My shitting my pants has nothing to do with fear. Trust me on that one.
  12:23am markr:

Hi cool
  12:23am markr:

Motherfucking autocorrect--Coel
  12:24am markr:

Don't you tell me who my listeners are, Apple--you just stick to what you know best--making little Chinese slave children manufacture your phones and laptops with nets around the building so when they jump out the window to kill themselves the net catches them and you can put them back on the assembly line.
  12:25am markr:

You don't know my friends, you don't hang out with my friends, and you'd certainly never condescend to speak to any of my friends.
  12:27am Dean:

Why just this evening I mentioned to my wife how frustrated I am that Steve Jobs is dead, because if he weren't I'd love nothing more than to piss into his mouth. I'm not a hating guy, but I HATE sick creeps like Steve Jobs.
Avatar 12:28am Scraps:

{roll eyes}
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29am Franco Twinkie:

Dean, do you want to yank the table cloth right now or surprise us?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29am coelacanth∅:

i never understood the golden showers thing.
  12:33am Dean:

My bad. Jobs was a mere human. I apologize if I offended any of his dear admirers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33am Franco Twinkie:

I like the story about Ghandi - Some one asked him -Wht do you drink your urine? He responded - It is cheap!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34am chresti:

she sounded like a monster-Pharmakon
Exception: The The
  12:34am rw:

  12:35am rw:

I mean, boo as in scary ghost sound. Not as in booing the show or any comments.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37am coelacanth∅:

steve jobs was a scumbag but i think probably 1/2 the scumbag as those in charge of crapple now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37am coelacanth∅:

Ahh! rw!
  12:38am markr:

Or Boo Radley or "Let's smoke some boo..."
Avatar 12:38am Keilidh:

Pharmakon and the new Oh Sees - my faves
  12:38am markr:

Anyway, lots of great artists have been booed, so it doesn't bother me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38am Franco Twinkie:

We had a woman across the street in the breezeway between the donut shop and the and a parking lot that sounded very similar. She would go off in the morning. Boy could she yell!
  12:39am Bonothedog:

This might be a good time to play some Sam Cooke
  12:39am markr:

Dylan, Iggy, Stravinsky...
  12:39am markr:

I'm just like them guys...
  12:40am Bonothedog:

Avatar 12:40am Scraps:

Wait, did I miss a chapter of the Steve Jobs Admiration Society?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40am coelacanth∅:

i wish i'd heard that song.
i've heard pharmakon before though, and seen videos where she gets right in audience members' faces (always male) screaming.
intense shit.
  12:40am Bonothedog:

Steve Jobs was Satan
  12:41am ignatatus666:

This reminds me of Suicide Machine
  12:41am bo:

sweet segue!!!!
  12:41am Bonothedog:

Tim Cooke is merely belzebub
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41am coelacanth∅:

well just how many satans are there anyway?
  12:42am Bonothedog:

One lucifer
  12:42am Bonothedog:

Satan is a title I think
  12:42am rw:

coelacanth!! Lots of Satans.
  12:43am Bonothedog:

Taylor Swift is .satan
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44am coelacanth∅:

yeah you're right. i was just counting and i ran out of fingers.
Avatar 12:44am Scraps:

There are forty Boogers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45am Franco Twinkie:

I've never thought of Satan as franchise, Coel. Hmmm, interesting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45am coelacanth∅:

  12:46am Bonothedog:

Which DJ at WFMU is Satan?
  12:47am Dean:

Good lord. Why is it so hard for folks to acknowledge or deny that certain agents are generally bad for us? I don't get what Satan has to do with anything.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47am coelacanth∅:

Franco, 7.6 billion served
  12:47am markr:

That might be a good contest for us, like when we vote on the station mascot.
  12:48am Bonothedog:

I vote for the cool girls. The leader of them is Satan.
Avatar 12:48am Keilidh:

I'm Satan's niece
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49am coelacanth∅:

Keilidh ask him if he'll meet me at the crossroads later
  12:49am Bonothedog:

Does Uncle Lucy like Swift’s new album?
Avatar 12:50am Keilidh:

Yes and "Hell" no
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51am coelacanth∅:

  12:51am Dean:

You gotta backmask. Insinuate yourself as "Natas."

"Hi, I'm Jean Natas. How can I help you?"
  12:52am Bonothedog:

Well he has good taste but how does Taylor spread evil without his endorsement?
Avatar 12:52am Scraps:

Dean, the reaction you are getting might just be that you are talking down to just about everybody in this room. You know, maybe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54am chresti:

While looking in a broken mirror @Dean
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57am chresti:

(when saying "I am Jean Natas"}
  12:59am Dean:

Talking down? As in, condescending? How so?

Yes, I am being critical, but how is that talking down? Yes, you buggers say shit that pisses me off, but how is expressing that fact condescending?
  1:00am Dean:

N.B. I really don't want to derail the vibe of the comments board, which I truly admire.
  1:02am Bonothedog:

Dean Jobs was a POS who knew how to get good products designed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03am chresti:

Dean isn't condescending, he's an LA punk
  1:03am Dean:

I disagree. Jobs produced no good products.
  1:04am Bonothedog:

You might be right
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04am Franco Twinkie:

Oh Sees should see if they could get the screaming lady to open for them.
  1:06am Bonothedog:

This album was produced at the height of the loudness wars. The distortion is always hard to listen to which distracted from my admiration of Amy
  1:06am markr:

That's 201-200-9368 for a pair of tickets to the Hudson West Folk Festival in Jersey City Saturday
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07am chresti:

I've never heard Amy Winehouse, somehow
  1:07am markr:

You're right Bono, the meters are totally pinned here, even when I lowered the volume.
  1:07am Bonothedog:

You can hear the reds
  1:08am Bonothedog:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10am Franco Twinkie:

Shall we fuckin' rock? Kill it, Inara!
  1:11am bibiti bop:

i thought it was the frow show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11am chresti:

That's what I was thinking, Bono- Petra, at the beginning
  1:12am Bonothedog:

Petra kills the Who’s Rael.
  1:14am Bonothedog:

Slays is a better term
  1:15am ignatatus666:

Fun comment board
Better then some of the bubble gum ass kissing on one of the popular shows I shall not mention
This is quite entertaining and confusing
  1:15am ignatatus666:

PS Satan is not your scapegoat
  1:16am Bonothedog:

I think I know which show you speak of
  1:16am markr:

Entertaining and confusing is a good slogan. I'd wear that one proudly.
  1:22am Bonothedog:

Mick Jones sounds like that voice of God voice on those old Moody Blues albums
  1:26am Bonothedog:

Speaking of Satan....
  1:27am markr:

It's all either God or the devil tonight, isn't it?
  1:28am Bonothedog:

I would have preferred Joe Strummer as God
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29am Ken From Hyde Park:

The Devil and Daniel Johnston, yes.
Avatar 1:30am Scraps:

satan <—> booger <—> god
  1:36am rw:

The name Circle Time has a ritualistic ring to it for sure.
  1:38am Bonothedog:

I always hear about three or four things to get listening to Mark. Wish they would dump one of the kiss ass shows and put him on.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39am coelacanth∅:

this show has destroyed my notions of circular time
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41am coelacanth∅:

actually every single time i think of the show name i (still) think of the 'stones song.
  1:43am rw:

Stones song? Maybe I don't want to know. Will it ruin anything for me?
  1:43am markr:

Let's not get carried away, rw.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46am coelacanth∅:

i don't know! but it's just about my favorite rolling stones song (despite Charlie's blunders), from their best album.
sway on sticky fingers
Avatar 1:47am Scraps:

Oh god, this is an awesome song. =Ingenue= is a perfect album.
  1:47am ignatatus666:

I never knew the Stones have a best album.
  1:48am rw:

Ha! I know the song but don't know the lyrics well enough to ruin nor enhance anything to do with this show!
  1:49am markr:

"Destroyed my notions of circular time" is a line from the song.
Avatar 1:51am Scraps:

And thank god you played a song other than “Constant Craving”. Not that it is a good song, but it’s the only song that you hear from =Ingenue=, and every song is good.
  1:51am Bonothedog:

  1:51am markr:

I could be persuaded that any of the albums between "Beggar's Banquet" and "Exile" are their best album. They're all great, including the live "Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out." I'm partial to "Let It Bleed" myself.
  1:52am markr:

Yeah I wanted to dig into one of the album tracks you never hear, Scraps.
  1:52am Bonothedog:

Another song about Satan
  1:53am ignatatus666:

I always wish when those popular DJs are on a day off they would use a DJ like Markr or Kellen303 . Anyone way off the norm.
I don’t understand how the ones they use have good shows but when they fill in they are horrible.
  1:54am Bonothedog:

Office politics just like anything else.
  1:55am ignatatus666:

I agree
But those playlists are so bad
This morning was a perfect example
  1:55am Bonothedog:

Hive mind BS
  1:55am Bonothedog:

Which time slot?
Avatar 1:55am Scraps:

=Aftermath= is probably my favorite Stones album. Followed by =Some Girls=.
  1:56am Bonothedog:

Goats Head Soup here.
  1:56am ignatatus666:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57am coelacanth∅:

i couldn't say they're all great! starting with tatoo you i think every album mostly or completely sucks! but then, every album up to and including goats head soup is good to great.
  1:58am Bonothedog:

Black and Blue and Emptional rescue sounded like leftover albums
  1:58am ignatatus666:

What year was Goatshead soup?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00am coelacanth∅:

let it bleed definitely my 2nd. after that in no definite order beggars banquet, between the buttons, aftermath, goats head soup, the overrated exile on main st....
Avatar 2:00am Scraps:

=Tattoo You= is pretty good, IMGDO. =Undercover=, though, hoo boy.
  2:01am Bonothedog:

GHS 1973. I looked at that playlist. It isn’t bad, it’s just a garden variety alternative playlist which takes few risks.
  2:02am ignatatus666:

Love that up beat Jazz
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03am coelacanth∅:

oh i see the track listing Scraps; yeah it has some good ones. maybe it doesn't mostly suck but just partially sucks!
  2:03am Bonothedog:

The night folks are always better anyplace you go.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03am coelacanth∅:

yeah undercover and emotional rescue are abominable...but in different ways.
Avatar 2:04am Scraps:

  2:04am ignatatus666:

Compared to his own show which has a great playlist I just don’t get the change. Every time he fills in I listen, get bored and hit the archives
  2:05am markr:

Goats Head mostly suffered in comparison to its predecessor, Exile.
  2:05am Bonothedog:

I don’t listen to clay much. Does Clay have tame playlists?
  2:06am ignatatus666:

I’m pretty open minded with music. Not a stones fan at all . I’ll give that GHS a listen. I saw the movie Rock and roll circus which everyone that performed was excellent until Yoko came on stage. Then you knew why it took them so many years to release that. She ruined the entire show.
  2:06am rw:

There's a Stones album called Undercover?
  2:07am Bonothedog:

Yes Mark but I would love for the New Stones Album to be two thirds as good as GHS.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07am coelacanth∅:

i think the production is the main negative about goats head soup. good songs though
Avatar 2:07am Scraps:

And everyone has an Overrated one. Mine is =Let It Bleed=. To me, a great single (“Gimme Shelter”), then okay, okay, okay, okay....
  2:11am Bonothedog:

One thing is for sure. If The Rolling Stones puts out their new album and it sounds like shit and piss, Rolling Stone will give it four and a half stars and call it a return to form.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12am coelacanth∅:

(again...) exile. there are some very boring songs on that, and too much (bland) piano. they could've put all the best songs on 1 lp; but then it wouldn't be the big deal masterwork blah blah blah.
  2:13am Bonothedog:

This sounds like a song Paul Simon ripped off for Graceland.
Avatar 2:13am Scraps:

Yeah, I agree
  2:13am rw:

I love everything with a guitar sound like this.
Avatar 2:13am Scraps:

(coel, i mean)
  2:13am markr:

We'll have to agree to disagree on that one, Scraps--Midnight Rambler, You Can't Always Get What You Want, Monkey Man, Live with Me--damn, those are all killers to me.
Avatar 2:14am Scraps:

Man I hate Midnight Rambler.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14am coelacanth∅:

for me, midnight rambler is the only reason i don't call let it bleed a perfect album!
  2:15am markr:

This guy's actually Peruvian, but I hear what you mean.
  2:15am Bonothedog:

Monkey Man is just perfect. In fact I never request any thing but if that was played...
  2:15am markr:

Most Stones fans would disagree with you guys, but you're entitled to your opinions.
  2:16am markr:

Oh I'm ahead of myself, this is from Madagascar. The NEXT guy's from Peru.
  2:17am Bonothedog:

It def has a west Africa vibe despite being south east Africa.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18am coelacanth∅:

well, i'm as much a 'stones fan as any 'stones fan out there who is smart enough to have stopped listening to them by the end of the 70s!
Avatar 2:18am Scraps:

Since Paul Simon used South African musicians, I don’t think he exactly ripped them off — except he didn’t give them songwriting credit (I think? Can’t exactly remember; it’s been thirty-plus years!)
  2:19am ignatatus666:

He does hit some punk and alternative music. Plays a decent variety with some standards. Know to play the jam,Fugazi,Stiff little fingers etc. but won’t touch the heavy NY stuff or anything industrial.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19am coelacanth∅:

i don't think he did, but he did give them paying gigs
Avatar 2:21am Scraps:

(I mean, if they didn’t want Simon “ripping them off,” they could have stopped playing with him)
  2:22am Bonothedog:

Simon paid them union wages.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22am coelacanth∅:

i correct myself. he did give some writing credits. (maybe not initially?)
Avatar 2:23am Scraps:

On the other hand, the New Orleans musicians got mad at him, as I recall
Avatar 2:28am Scraps:

Shoot, not “New Orleans”.... uh... Los Lobos, that was it! They were mad at Paul.
  2:30am Bonothedog:

Hell they are still mad.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30am coelacanth∅:

people aren't thinking. some other artists i like also criticized him but there's no question that what he did had positive results for south african musicians and probably even helped to end aparthied sooner.
boycotting the south african government shouldn't have been interpreted as also boycott south african musicians.
  2:31am Bonothedog:

But neither Los Lobos nor Paul Simon have made any albums that approach the work they were doing then.
  2:31am rw:

Mark R, I'm exhausted and at a good stopping point but just decided to keep slogging away for at least another half hour. Thanks for keeping it interesting!
  2:33am markr:

Thanks for hanging in there with us, rw!
  2:34am Bonothedog:

I had no problem with Simon using them. I still don’t know who was telling the truth about those sessions. Some of the articles I have read seem like retribution against Simon. My comment about the African tune was in jest
  2:35am ignatatus666:

Hercules is a fun song
Many FMU DJs are playing this.
  2:35am ignatatus666:

What happened to Dean??
Avatar 2:35am Hubig Pie:

I love this song
Avatar 2:36am Scraps:

Los Lobos wasn’t mad at Simon because of the South African musicians etc; they were mad at him because they played with him (on =Graceland=) and they felt Simon treated them badly
  2:36am ignatatus666:

Can you imagine Professor DumDum filing in on Wake?
  2:37am Bonothedog:

What about Jim price? Who is that guy anyway?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37am coelacanth∅:

haha, 666 then i might listen to that show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37am coelacanth∅:

(or at least not consciously avoid it)
  2:37am Bonothedog:

Scraps. Agreed.
Avatar 2:37am Scraps:

They thought they brought him songwriting and Simon took credit....
  2:39am Bonothedog:

That’s the same accusation made against Simon for the African tunes. He stole jams.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39am coelacanth∅:

Jim Price has been on wfmu for at least 35 years. he had 4-hour shows (the norm then) in the 80s &/or 90s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39am coelacanth∅:

(...maybe the late 70s?)
Avatar 2:39am Scraps:

(p.s.: I like Paul Simon. But he’s.... complicated.)
  2:39am Bonothedog:

Ok. I’ve only known of him during his one minute show days
  2:40am Bonothedog:

Me too. Paul Seems like a jerk but I like his music.
  2:41am Bonothedog:

Taylor Swift is a jerk and her music is awful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42am coelacanth∅:

graceland has elements strongly influenced, just as so many blues songs, rock songs, country songs, etc;
and other songs that are credited partially to south african musicians. (ie one member of ladymith black mambazo)
  2:44am Bonothedog:

Graceland is one of my all time favorite albums. But the fact that there were no outtakes for the anniversary was telling. Me thinks Simon used others to break a dry spell.

...and i've heard he's a jerk too; but an awful lot of people are jerks (including some artists who have a reputation for being nice or sensitive or whatever who are certainly worse than Paul Simon) i don't think he's a terrible jerk.

Whoa this is not the mix of Misunderstood I have (but it's rad, and also hello). Hey what happened to the sonic collage!

I don’t like Taylor Swift’s music, but that’s okay, but I don’t need to like every genre. But I liked her calling out Trump in the music video awards.

Lot of good lyrics on that record, which he wrote.

Hey I liked the Wilco and whatever was playing behind it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47am diciassette:

There, you see? Maybe I'll have to make one myself at home.
  2:47am markr:

diciassette that was my own mix of Wilco and Pharmakon, which worked amazingly well until the screaming hag came on.
Avatar 2:47am Scraps:

I don’t think Simon has much extra tracks in his career, really. He writes slowly.
