It's OK to like Nick Lowe
  11:09am Tim from LH:

Just watched the book signing event on YouTube, Micheal you got almost as much screen time as Nick and Will!
Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2021 11:09am Ross T.:

Yes, "Cruel to be Kind" is one of those records that sounds terrific every time....

BTW -- does anyone know what that muffled "squeaking" sound is that occurs throughout? Acoustic guitar strings?
  11:09am ?:

howdy ya'll!
Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2021 Swag For Life Member 11:09am Cat:

"Lately" is such a great song! I swear I've listened to it 20 times this week, inspired by the book.

Ultimate dream for 2020: Several No. 1 music acts unite for a Rock against Republicans album and tour. Fountains of Wayne reunites with a cover of "Cruel to Be Kind." And it makes all the difference on Nov. 3.

Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2021 11:35am Ross T.:

Agree 100% about "professional art." Would much rather have what's hanging on a refrigerator somewhere than what's on display in a fancy Soho gallery. Or give me something by Daniel Johnston....

#1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2021 12:32pm David in ATL from NJ:

Wow, thanks for that great interview, Michael.
  12:33pm DG:

As a big NL fan, I'd like to put in a vote for "Basing Street," a b-side (and a bonus cut on his 2nd album) that now sounds like a preview of his later style: quiet, acoustic, and a sad little slice of life about an unnamed tragedy. Thanks for this interview!
  12:35pm dymphnite:

That was very good.
Avatar 12:35pm Michael Shelley:

LOVE basing st!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm TheLoneliestMonk:

nice interview, mike.
i like nick lowe, but he always struck me as a crabby, feisty quirky old englishman...even when he was young!

Thanks for another great interview Mike and to Will Birch as well.
  12:46pm dymphnite:

It was me.. It was $3.99 at Korvettes for a two-record set. A bargain. And I hated it even as I bought it. I'm not sure why I did. And I remember thinking at the time that I kind of wanted to feel what it was like to be one of 9 million people. But I was already going the other way. I don't think I ever bought another record like that ever again.

Avatar 12:52pm Michael Shelley:

I remember never listening to the whole Frampton lp all they way through... but there were some good singles - and that weird voice box thing was facinating to my 12 year old self
  12:56pm Cal Zone!:

loving the new RK album! So great to hear them going for it full throttle!
  12:57pm frenchee:

Hiya Michael! Great show today.
Did your biodad ever appear on MANNIX? I watched an ep last night on olde-people TV and there was a guy who looked a lot like you (except older).
  12:57pm Sean T.:

I just gave away one of my many aquired copies of "Frampton Comes Alive" which I think is the source of the voicebox single you are referring to. They were pretty ubiquitous so I've managed to acquire at least 5 copies for $0 dollars. They don't suck.
  12:58pm frenchee:

I scanned the credits but didn't see the name "Shelley"
  12:58pm clarke:

underbocky!!!!! YASSS!!!
  1:01pm dymphnite:

I'm sure I never played it through even once. But I did see him, years later, play lead guitar for Bowie at the Meadowlands. It was fine. I don't hate him as a person or anything.
