300 tapes.... I imagine they were anxious, trying to be very very precise, careful, wanting the music to be just right: and then, they were satisfied: perfect. Only later, when they counted all the tapes, they discovered, astonishingly, it added up to three hundred precisely. What do you know! they said, shaking their heads.

Later, they wondered: people maybe would think they chose three hundred just for the title. And maybe some people, a minority to be sure, but a troublesome minority all the same, would put them down contemptibly for that. Sometimes, at night, they would be anxious, bothered, and they would drink until sleep.

mr lopez likes you to listen to his work in a completely dark room. so i imagine they were effectively counting blind, and after they'd counted 100 tapes they started to count the same tapes again, and then again...

not sure when he started that practice, but the one time i saw his may be 8 yrs ago he handed out heavy black cloth to blindfold yourself with. It was nice
