Hi everyone. If anyone missed it, this week's Vocal Fry was all Blue Yodels all the time

Woo! Give me a Peach Mint cocktail.

I'm going to restrain myself to one omission complaint about the Burns show because I know there's a lot of stuff and only so much time, but how they go through a Shel Silverstein chunk bounced off a Johnny Cash live prison recording and not at least name check the earlier 25 Minutes To Go (one of my top 3 to 5 Cash performances ever)... www.poemhunter.com...

J Cash at Folsom was the first album I owned. Bought it 1969. I payed it everyday for like a year. It's imprinted on my brain

Loretta Lynn is a force of nature...I'd say she is the preeminent female country artist .

anyone know if this Linda Ronstadt doc is supposed to be any good? Saw the trailer and it looks like it might be pretty good.

Howdee honky tonky Girl!

Is this pre-recorded? I guess so without a playlist.

So tonight's show is the big Garth Brooks show, so I'm expecting a lot of talk of the misunderstood genius of the Chris Gaines period and the merits of microphone headsets.

The Butterman:

The Hank Williams piece in the Burns doc had me in tears.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:31pm
ultradamno:

The reviews for the Ronstadt doc are mostly positive. The promotional materials seem to really put the boy scout outfit front and center.

JakeGould:

So tonight’s show is about Garth Brooks? That don’t im-press me much.

Cash may have played What Is Truth (rather than the requested Welfare Cadillac) but did he get high on the roof?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:36pm
Tommy in Neversink:

It is said that Jimmy Rogers is the father of country music but I consider Hank the father. Because most country sounds like it's rooted in the Hank sound

JakeGould:

“Johnny Cash, singer of country songs, has told the White House that he does not want to sing the controversial ballad “Welfare Cadilac” at a social on April 17.” www.nytimes.com...

I just learned that Alabama is like the top selling country group....who knew
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:39pm
Tommy in Neversink:

Nixon had Cash there as part of the GOP southern strategy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:40pm
ultradamno:

It's a pretty crazy rude thing to request a major artist to just play something not by them that you heard on the radio and supports your agenda. How has Trump not done it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:41pm
ultradamno:

...that I'm aware of.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:41pm

Why not Paris Texas?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:42pm
Tommy in Neversink:

Trump probably doesn't listen to music
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:44pm
ultradamno:

I guess Nixon didn't want Guy Drake because that was about all he ever did.

Penn Gillette once said he never saw Trump show any enjoyment or appreciation for music, not hard to believe.

try not to hold it against him
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:50pm
Tommy in Neversink:

I believe Nixon also wanted Cash to do Okie from Miscogie to promote his war agenda and promote the idea that if you thought it was wrong to be forced to go to Nam and get killed or maimed for no good reason you weren't patriotic. God, I hate that song
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:52pm
ultradamno:

Merle's account in the show of how it was written (basically half a goof) almost makes it worse
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:52pm
Tommy in Neversink:

Dwight Yoakam's voice is like maple suryp to me ....I love it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:54pm
Tommy in Neversink:

I dont' know if it was a goof but Merle surly didn't mind pretending it wasn't. He clearly stood behind it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:55pm
ultradamno:

Yeah, it's a very cynical song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:56pm
Tommy in Neversink:

But Haggard is generally a great guy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:56pm
ultradamno:

Basically, they saw some sign going into the town and started riffing like "this is what these people are like"...

Daybreak and the Weekend Memories:

Enjoy the low places!

Fafnir:

Anyone know where the playlist for this is? I’m looking for a western sounding waltz played behind the Dj. Thanks
