I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

I forgot my password to sign in today and for some reason the email to reset my password is never showing up. Checking spam too. So every time I post a message here it's making me do math?! Yeah, I think I've even seen my impersonator here before. The math is there to give you some brain exercises so that your focus increases as you work in your lab, it's a thoughtful gesture from the station.

Hello Mayuko and vertigo people!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm

Your right fleep, I suspect it's the fundraiser machine at work. I wonder if submitting artwork earns a radio, maybe only if someone buys it?

oh yeah! We're stripped our radios and hearts! We have no hearts any more!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm

@fleep: Yeah, and our pledging history has been wiped from the profiles. I had mixed feelings about these anyway. Maybe it shames a few people into pledging, but I'm not happy with the shaming

For some reason it's been bad for the first hour of David Dichelle's show, but I don't think it happened during yours. Maybe the Daves/Mayukos imbalance is the cause

I remember Taking Heads - 'Fear of Music' did NOT make sense to me. After quite a few listens it finally Blew My Mind. We cling to our identities like security blankets but at what opportunity cost?

I was expecting something like the bouncy stuff that I heard them play on SNL but I got ENO'ed
  1:21pm

I hated the talking heads because the radio would play like one track over and over and over. Later on I revisited their albums and enjoy it more

I loved Talking Heads from the very beginning but Fear of Music still blew my mind! I miss them so much!

Years ago while driving across the country with my friend Marcus and a woman we didn't know, she had been asleep in the back seat and woke up to Music for 18 Musicians on the tape deck. It took several minutes to explain to her that it wasn't the car "making a weird noise, don't you hear it??"

Fear of Music. Is that the black embossed cover? I think that's my favorite.

Cool story on RadioLab couple weeks ago about how AC/DC power converters on NYC subways were engineered to make a specific set of notes when they did their job - everyone thinks they're hearing something from 'West Side Story'! haw
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm
paul b:

Opportunity cost. That term got thrown around a lot in my school days. I always thought it was best used to think about aggregate decisions - where a nations production curve might lie with different societal values. Like if we dropped a few less GP$ bombs on Afghan farmers we might be able to afford AOC's Green New Deal. But then some would say "right and we'd have the Taliban opening kabab restaurants in Silver Spring". So there is that.

In individual decisions you would have to know too much about the outcomes to make it work.
I've always thought your show brings me to new understandings of myself. You can't put a price on that
  1:37pm
rbrt:

I love this dream clock song.
  1:41pm
rw:

fred, my kids' friends all have thought that about my house at some point or other. Maybe some of my friends too. From my perspective Ignatatus666 is doing a public service!

rbrt, me too. Actually the whole show. Except the parts I missed. This may be the most zoned-out program I've heard.
Avatar 1:42pm
Mayuko:

@paul b yeah, that concept only makes sense in such specific situations where logical thinking is needed. certainly not on Bryce's show, haha!

I just think we never know what we are truly "gaining" and "losing" from anything - to me it feels more a question of will you find meanings in it or not and it's up to me. Every week I do a show and all the artists I play certainly help me understand things and myself better, too! It makes me happy to hear that's how you feel too and thank you for the kind words!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm
fred:

@paul b: you might be on to something there. Afghanistan's power structure is complicated, but what if a way to solve it was just saying "who's good enough to beat the others in building the best kebab franchise in Silver Spring?"
  1:46pm
rw:

Oh yeah, Bryce's show. His shows are at least this zoned-out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm

I have to disagree about Bryce's show. I find it very logical. The axioms just happen to be different
