without googling ... "canope" sounds like a star or constellation or something? I'm pretty sure there's a star or constellation or something with a name like that!

Had to catch the first two shows on the archive, but I’m listening live tonight and I just wanted to say I’m perfectly chuffed to see/hear you return.

Canopus was a character in the Iliad. He worked for Menelaus, King of Sparta, whose wife was that Helen that all that trouble was about...

Ivan:

happy birthday Vladimir Horowitz...if people understood what Horowitzs tone meant, he would be banned from the keyboard...Prokofiev and Samuel Barber loved his work...had his detractors as well...truly an unashamed romantic...your shows are mesmerizing...thank you...

Dean:

HB, VH, indeed.

From the Fanfare review of the Rhodes Moszkowski recording, which never mentions Moszkowski (because most of the program was Bach, Beethoven, and Chopin): "Rhodes is presented as a sort of cool, yet despairing James Dean kind of artist. My kids would call him emo. There are so many photos of him in sunglasses that I thought he might be blind."

..just read recently that Britten and Shostakovich were friends.
  8:42pm
Dean:

And Fanfare in 1996 on this Aldwell Hindemith (which I'm loving): "Right from the opening statement, Aldwell brings great imagination and insight to his performance of Ludus Tonális. One is continually reminded of Bach, but that is perfectly appropriate for this work. Few other performers find so much variety in this music; although Aldwell does not use the work as a springboard for pianistic display, as Richter does, there are moments which show that he has as high a level of digital dexterity."

I'm going to imagine Britten and Shostakovich as Frog and Toad from the classic children's book "Frog and Toad are Friends" but I don't know which is which

In his work about Britten, Michael Oliver relates an account of B praising S, to which S replied, "No, no: You great composer; I little composer."
