My sad story: I saw Stereolab once (2000?) for about 5 min.! Our driver to the concert picked us up real late, so we heard their last two songs. Waaaaah.

My friend tells a similar story where Stereolab opened for the Fall and the group he went with pre-drank through the opener.

I recall the first time I heard Stereolab. Sitting at a friend's apt, in 1996 or '97. It hit me after several tunes and a few puffs.
Avatar 🌫 Swag For Life Member 10:26pm
Franco Twinkie:

I saw SPK and Chris and Cosey together at The I-Beam in San Francisco. SPK ground up large pieces of metal and had nude dancers that looked like pinheads. Chris and Cosey were somewhat subdued by comparison, they just showed a movie of an autopsy while they laid down a mellow groove.
Avatar 10:27pm
northguineahills:

The first time I saw stereolab was in Atlanta in '96, and they played a nearly 3 houe encore, including a 45 minute version of "Metronomic Underground".

C&P felt kind of muddy at the time, or maybe it was just the artwork, but it's aged spectacularly well.
Avatar 10:38pm
Jesse Dorris:

Also just as well Tim didn't get a job at Industrial Records; Gen might have tried to murder him with a concrete block as attempted on Cosey. Allegedly, I guess, and so fucking awful.
