Beats mismatched. New mystic moods. The International Style. Pressed and dressed. Queasy listening. New ways to fail. More is more. Backroom room tones.

First?
Avatar 3:02am Jesse Dorris:

Hiya @Chris!
Avatar 3:03am Chris in Kuala Lumpur:

Hey @Jesse! This is weirding my dog out, which is always a good sign.
  3:03am groki:

Man, I'm feeling guilty already.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04am Scraps:

Ah, Giorno. r.i.p.
Avatar 3:05am Chris in Kuala Lumpur:

Oh, crap. Didn't see Giorno had died!
  3:06am ignatatus666:

Good Evening Jesse
I can’t get online to WoofMoo dot .org
Been an issue sporadically the last few days. I’m thinking it’s an apple tech issue. They do some crooked crap to make you upgrade.
I can access with no issues through the app . Go figure.
3:09am Dave in St Albans UK:

Hi Jesse. I thought the WFMU feed had been hijacked. Seemingly all is normal..... of course!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11am coelacanth∅:

greetings Jesse
i'm going to try
i think it's that scum, optimum, that's disrupting what i pay fucking $85/month for it to do so it cuts out at least once/minute
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12am coelacanth∅:

hey optimum can you see this? YOU ARE SCUM!!
Avatar 3:14am Jesse Dorris:

@Chris get the treats out, your dog's going on a journey
  3:14am ignatatus666:

Coel
Are you using an Apple device?
Avatar 3:14am Jesse Dorris:

Hey @Groki guilt is a tailwind
  3:14am one nighter:

I lost my mind...and found it at the bus station without a ticket...love you john...your forever a rock hard hero...
Avatar 3:14am Jesse Dorris:

@Scraps I'm fucking shattered except it's a reason to go back and listen through his work, which is what we're gonna do
Avatar 3:14am Jesse Dorris:

@Ignatatus666 ah FUCK. Well at least the app is working?
Avatar 3:15am Jesse Dorris:

Hey @Dave maybe it has!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15am Ignatatus666:

Ahh
Im in
I’ll see how long it lasts
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17am Scraps:

Harold Bloom died yesterday. I never met him, but am fond of him; he was the super-editor of the Chelsea House Library of Literary Criticism, and I worked there as my first job in New York. That was one of the best jobs I had. Half of my day was spent in Columbia and New York University libraries, and the other half editing literary criticism. If you think that’s incredibly boring, I hear you. I was in heaven.
3:19am Dave in St Albans UK:

Got to put my headphones on. My wife is not enjoying this. Yes, it's that good ;-)
  3:21am groki:

@Scraps: Bloom is dead? Wow. I really did not like how he treated Ricardo Reis poetry (pastiche, uh?) but he was big. I actually feel as if you had a wonderful job.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22am coelacanth∅:

ig666 i'm ashamed to say i am indeed using a macbook. high sierra. i don't use other crapple shit; no itunes.
Avatar 3:29am Chris in Kuala Lumpur:

@Scraps: Harold Bloom, too? More establishment than Giorno, I suppose, and his take on Adrienne Rich was laughable. Still, that's some negative energy from yesterday for literature.
Avatar 3:34am Chris in Kuala Lumpur:

coelacanth∅: No shame in using a Macbook, really. Even if you use open-source operating-system software you still probably have to use a laptop made by a hardware manufacturer that isn't necessarily independent. Apple is one of the lesser of the evils.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35am coelacanth∅:

...i think it's optimum. they do this now & then.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36am coelacanth:

so that only took 12 minutes to post

...(...never heard of John Giorno until 2 days ago)
  3:37am groki:

This is why I use a laptop from 2003, old hardware never fails me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38am Scraps:

I like that Bloom treated science fiction as just literature; and he was the first serious hoity-toity critic to say John Crowley was great. And he said Iris Murdoch was the greatest English writer of her generation. Etc.

I look at the ones he championed, not the ones that he stupidly denigrated. ;-)
Avatar 3:38am Chris in Kuala Lumpur:

@Jesse: Just fed my dog a treat. She's still a little weirded out but I think she should be introduced to some Giorno. She's in the cone of shame, which is apropos for the scene
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39am coelacanth∅:

Chris Thanks. but i think microsoft is considerably less evil than apple...just, their operating system kinda sucks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39am Scraps:

And I love James Merrill, who he championed too.
Avatar 3:39am Chris in Kuala Lumpur:

@groki: Yikes. I couldn't! But I guess I see why you're a Stallman guy. What OS do you use, if you don't mind me asking?
Avatar 3:41am Chris in Kuala Lumpur:

@Scraps: That's fair. I think a lot of people remember the iffy things Bloom said as opposed to the great and noble things he championed. He could be a bit retrograde, especially when it came to poetry, but in terms of prose he was ahead of his time. RIP.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41am Ignatatus666:

@Coel
I noticed mostly during Wake my browser was not working properly aside from the app
I thought it was a conspiracy of the Wake nerds against me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43am Scraps:

Whoa, I don’t mostly used Apple products, except my ipad. But for me, Microsoft is evil, and hate that they take money away from me monthly because they ground all word processors into dust. Grrr, etc
  3:43am groki:

@Chris, using Puppy Linux. Works like a charm. At least for the things I need a PC for. Not Stallman Approved, tho.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44am Scraps:

(Also, I worked there, and know many people who worked there formerly or now, and it’s.... not a good place to work.)
Avatar 3:46am Jesse Dorris:

I love that this thread is half arguing about Bloom and half technical details. I'm not much of a fan of either!
Avatar 3:46am Jesse Dorris:

This is meanwhile maybe the greatest poem of the last like 25 years
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46am coelacanth∅:

groki i very much appreciate what you're saying. i bought this refurbished macbook to replace my failing macbook. my failing one, a 13" white, i also bought refurbished and it was amazing for a few years then had problems...but it still works. just takes 8-10 minutes to boot and i can't scroll too much or watch videos. c.2008 snow leopard. the best operating system to have ever existed, probably.
this one, i just got a few months ago, is nearly as old but with a vastly inferior operating system: high sierra.
it is shit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47am Ignatatus666:

@Jesse
Those first excerpts tou played
Did he want it recorded like that or were they a remix?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47am Scraps:

Chris, probably I have poetry tastes that lots of people would say retrograde. ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:51am Ignatatus666:

That piece reminds me of getting sober
Avatar 3:51am Jesse Dorris:

He recorded them that way! Master of delay, along with words
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52am coelacanth∅:

Scraps there's no way microsoft is as unscrupulous as apple. not even a chance. apple's almost as bad as gobble, probably - which makes it considerably worse than satan...if satan existed!
3:52am Dave in St Albans UK:

I have to seriously explore John Giorno's work. Where to start? Great selection so far and all new to me too. PS Chat room is like a Techtonic one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54am Scraps:

coelacanthØ, we cheerfully disagree.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54am coelacanth∅:

...and i would use linux if i was a good bit more skilled in the computer realm.
Avatar 3:55am Chris in Kuala Lumpur:

@groki: Ah! Okay, that distro makes sense. I thought most Linux distributions weren't Stallman-approved, though? XD Still waiting on GNU, Rich!
  3:55am groki:

@coelacanth∅: I had problems with videos also, but managed to overcoming them streaming my YT videos through SMTube, which basically is an opensource fetcher for SM Player. Now I stream flawlessly -- within some resolution limits, of course.

I use an T41 IBM. Old but sturdy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56am Scraps:

I tried learning linux. halfway through, my stroke hit. no heavy learning anymore!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:57am coelacanth∅:

Scraps haha!

...but on that cheerful note i must depart. i'm only getting maybe 20 seconds of every minute of this and it's far too frustrating.
Thanks Jesse. take care y'all.
  3:57am groki:

@coelacanth∅: you really do not need to be skilled to use Linux anymore, guys. That's past. You just need to grab the right distro.
Avatar 3:57am Chris in Kuala Lumpur:

I love how this became tech talk.
Avatar 3:58am Chris in Kuala Lumpur:

I love me some Linux but it's annoying when you work in media/digital publishing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58am coelacanth∅:

...jeez not the cheerful note of you having a stroke. but @3.54!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59am Scraps:

Thank you @jonny, that means a lot!
Avatar 4:05am Jesse Dorris:

haha as do I @scraps

Avatar 4:14am Jesse Dorris:

This tune comes just perfect with the vibes I'm getting from my window. There's a full Moon outside and the day is breaking at the same time.

@and the worst!
Avatar 4:26am Jesse Dorris:

hey @ben!
  4:26am flashback:

what's up, all?
Avatar 4:27am Jesse Dorris:

@Andrew huh! That's a great tune. Did you ever hear Stereolab's cover of it? (I think it was them?)
  4:30am flashback:

I have new hearing aids with a bluetooth connection to my phone and the music here sounds great on them.
Avatar 4:31am Jesse Dorris:

@flashback that's one intimate speaker setup! Happy to be of service.
  4:48am jonny:

my mum volunteered at an aids floor at a hospice in the early 80s....no one else volunteered because of the fears and misinformation...that selection was beautiful...
Avatar 4:54am Jesse Dorris:

Oh @Jonny that's such a bittersweet story. Leave it to a weird 7" I'm not sure the Seventh Day Adventists really meant to bring up some beauty in this world
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10am Ignatatus666:

The 80s were scary for those hit with that disease
I’m sure many never knew they had it and many may have died from the treatments themselves. It was basically treated horribly. I’ll never forget watching how it ate the life away from my uncle then years later a very close friend. Even then public misconceptions were still like Ebola
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10am Ignatatus666:

@spamoni
Are you on?
Avatar 5:20am Davee:

Greeting and salutations
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:35am Ignatatus666:

@Jesse
No DJ ever fails to introduce me to something new
I really dig that tribute to the writer Giorno and of course madness like this
Avatar 5:37am Jesse Dorris:

Hello @Davee!
Avatar 5:38am Jesse Dorris:

Aww thanks @Ignatatus at your service as usual! Giorno has so much more than I could ever get to. Or play. Glad you're into it!
